Lewis could return to practice as early as Friday, ESPN.com reports.

A quick return for Lewis after an undisclosed injury would be great news for the Saints, who are currently thin at cornerback with rookies P.J. Williams and Damian Swann also sidelined. As expected, Lewis' issue appears to have been minor and he shouldn't be out much longer.

Coach Sean Payton doesn't give injury updates this time of the year, so it's not clear why Lewis was absent from the final hour of Wednesday's practice. Hopefully Lewis' issue is minor and the starting cornerback gets back out on the field in no time.

Per ESPN's Mike Triplett, the deal saves a "little cap space this year." Lewis is coming off a solid year, so it's highly unlikely he's agreed to a pay cut. More than likely, some of his $3.3 million base salary has been pushed down the road in the form of a bonus.
