Gore rushed for 53 yards on 17 carries in Sunday's win over the Jaguars, adding five receptions on seven targets for 34 yards. He lost a fumble during the game.

Though he has averaged a respectable 4.2 yards per carry this season, remember that looks can be deceiving. That average is bolstered by 6.1 yard-per-carry Week 3 performance. In his other three games, Gore has averaged less than four yards per carry, receiving little help from Indianapolis' offensive line. Though a few more slow games will have doubters making claims that Father Time has caught up with Gore, the 32-year-old back has two elements working in his favor. For one, he is a very good pass-catching back in an offense built around the passing game. Two, the running game is often counted on to correct pass-blocking struggles like the ones exhibited thus far in Indianapolis and Gore is the only bonafide back toting the rock for the Colts.

Gore rushed for 86 yards on 14 carries and added eight yards on one reception in Sunday's win over the Titans.

Gore benefited from a balanced offensive approach from the Colts, scoring two rushing touchdowns to complement the two passing scores thrown by quarterback Andrew Luck. The coaching staff should be eager to keep feeding the veteran the rock as they appear to have finally found a running back who can keep defenses honest.

Gore finished with 15 carries for 57 yards and lost a fumble in Monday night's defeat to the Jets.

Gore also caught his lone target for four receiving yards Monday. For the second straight game, the 32-year-old couldn't find much room to run, although his 15 carries Monday compared to eight in Week 1 was at least an encouraging uptick. Nonetheless, Gore fumbled away an all-valuable goal line carry, wasting a golden opportunity to turn around his slow start in Indianapolis.

Gore managed just 31 yards on 8 carries Sunday in Buffalo, adding two catches for zero yards.

The whole Colts offense performed poorly in this one, and Gore was no exception. The veteran running back gave owners a scare when he left the game with calf cramps in the second quarter, but was able to return to the game soon after. There's nowhere to go but up for Gore, as this dismal performance was very out-of-character for the longtime 49ers star.

Indianapolis head coach Chuck Pagano said the Colts will monitor Gore's workload very closely in the regular season, the Colts' official site reports.

Pagano didn't get into specifics about Gore's expected workload, but the 10-year veteran has averaged 18 touches (16 carries, two receptions) per game over the past four seasons. Does putting Gore on a pitch count mean less than that? Given how much the Colts want the ball in Andrew Luck's hands, there would be plenty of opportunities to rest Gore, while giving him enough carries to be an effective balance to the passing attack. But the Colts aren't exactly stocked with healthy or experienced backups right now. Resting Gore would mean added reps for rookie backups Josh Robinson and Tyler Varga.

Gore was a healthy scratch in Saturday's preseason win over the Rams.

Gore had two carries in Indy's second preseason game for his only work of the preseason. He'll likely sit out the final preseason game as well. There are no injury concerns with Gore as the veteran doesn't need any preseason work. He'll begin the season as Indy's starting running back.

The sturdy and durable Gore approaches the coming season, his first with the Colts, as the team's top back and while Indy's attack isn't as geared toward the run as the 49ers were, Gore figures to see added work as a pass-catcher this season, plus it's easy to envision him easily surpassing the total of five TDs that he scored last season with San Francisco.

Colts head coach Chuck Pagano made comments indicating that the team expects Gore to handle a heavy workload in 2015, CSN Bay Area reports. "He's a tough, hard-nosed, every-down back. He can play all three downs," Pagano said of Gore. "I don't think we would've gone after him and made the investment and made the decision to bring him in if we didn't feel that way."

While it's no secret that the Colts plan to use Gore as their primary back for early downs, it's somewhat less clear how the passing-down work will be split up. Gore has an excellent reputation as a pass blocker, but he didn't catch many balls over his final few seasons in San Francisco, while Dan Herron did nice work for the Colts in that department during the team's playoff run.

Gore, who had reportedly been closing in on an deal with the Eagles, had a change of heart and will now head to Indianapolis, where he's in line to head the team's backfield in 2015. At this stage, there's still some moving parts on that front, but Dan Herron figures to contribute to the unit in a complementary role.

Gore plans to sign a three-year contract with the Colts, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Gore was reportedly closing in on an agreement with the Eagles, only to change his mind before the official start of free agency. He's now headed to Indianapolis, where rumors suggest he'll be joined by Andre Johnson, who is also a part of the Miami Hurricanes family. It sounds as if Gore's deal is all but official, while Johnson's landing spot remains uncertain. Gore would lead the Indianapolis backfield, with Daniel Herron perhaps serving as the third-down back.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Gore is thought to be reconsidering his reported pending deal with the Eagles.

With negotiations evidently still ongoing, Rapoport suggests that the Colts could enter the mix for Gore, who can't officially sign with a new team before Tuesday, in any case.

Details of his anticipated deal aren't yet available, and can't be made official before Tuesday, in any case, but assuming no change of heart for Gore, the long-time 49er will be in line to fill the void in the Eagles' offense created by the team's trade of fellow RB LeSean McCoy to Buffalo.

The 49ers reportedly believe that Gore is on track to head elsewhere in free agency, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Previous reports suggested that 49ers CEO Jed York hoped that San Francisco would "figure out a way" to re-sign Gore, but per Rapoport, it looks like the team may end up parting ways with the running back, who will turn 32 in May. In such a scenario, Gore -- who is coming off the fourth consecutive season in which he's topped 1,100 rushing yards -- should garner his share of interest in free agency.

49ers CEO Jed York said he thinks San Francisco will "figure out a way" to re-sign Gore, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Regardless of whether York's optimism is realistic, the comments make it clear that the 49ers will make a sincere effort to re-sign Gore. The running back market is flooded with options both in the draft and free agency, so Gore's price shouldn't be very high.
