Shaughnessy has moved from outside linebacker to defensive end this offseason, the Cardinals' official site reports. "We can always stand him up in run defense if we want to do that," coach Bruce Arians said. "He gives us such good position flexibility. Get him inside and let him get back to his natural stuff."
Before a knee injury limited Shaughnessy to eight games in a sack-free 2014 season, he racked up 18.5 across 67 contests in his first five professional seasons, shedding light on his pass-rushing prowess. Because he's struggled to keep his weight in relation to playing linebacker, according to Arians, the switch in positions appears logical and could push Shaughnessy into the fringes of the IDP landscape in the upcoming campaign.

Shaughnessy played 30 of 65 defensive snaps in his return to the field Sunday against the Chiefs, FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports. However, he injured his shoulder in the fourth quarter, according to the Cardinals' official site, and was subsequently listed as limited in Monday's practice.
Taking the field for the first time since Week 5, when he suffered a knee injury, Shaughnessy contributed three tackles, including two for loss. The lengthy absence from the lineup has delayed his first sack of the season, after racking up 18.5 in his first five years in the league, but with limited snaps perhaps on tap going forward, he may be blanked in the category for the first time in his career.
Tue Dec 2 201400:31Shaughnessy (knee) expected to take field Sunday against Chiefs
Shaughnessy (knee) is expected to take the field Sunday against the Chiefs, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Sidelined since Week 5 due to a knee injury, Shaughnessy rebooted his involvement in practice on Nov. 20 and is poised to take over one of spots at outside linebacker. Before he can return, though, he must be activated from the ID/designated-to-return list, which will likely occur before drills commence Wednesday. While the Cardinals have racked up 18 sacks over the last four games, his pass-rushing prowess will still be a boon to the defense as they push for a playoff berth.

Shaughnessy has been placed on the Cardinals' injured reserve/designated to return list due to a knee injury, Darren Urban of azcardinals.com reports.
Shaughnessy suffered knee cartridge damage during Sunday's loss to the Broncos and will now be sidelined for six weeks. His absence adds to the Cardinals' misfortune on defense, as coordinator Todd Bowles' starters have been ravaged by injuries throughout this season. Without Shaughnessy, Sam Acho could be promoted to start at strongside linebacker for Arizona moving forward.
Wed Mar 12 201410:35Patriots hosting OLB Matt Shaughnessy
The Patriots are hosting free agent OLB Matt Shaughnessy on a visit Wednesday.
Shaughnessy took a one-year "prove it" deal in free agency a year ago and it paid off. He made the transition to 3-4 outside linebacker and recorded 36 tackles, three sacks, three fumble recoveries and seven pass breakups. Shaughnessy would add to an already solid outside linebacking corps in New England that features Jamie Collins and Dont'a Hightower.

Tue Mar 4 201414:41Cardinals trying to re-sign OLB Shaughnessy
The Cardinals and free agent OLB Matt Shaughnessy have engaged in contract negotiations.
"They are actively trying to re-sign him," Shaughnessy's agent, Rich Rosa, said. "He wants to be there, so we'll see how it goes." Shaughnessy proved to be a versatile player for the Cardinals last season on a one-year deal. After playing defensive end and defensive tackle in Oakland, he was able to make the switch to 3-4 outside 'backer and was a quality edge setter versus the run.

Fri Mar 15 201316:07Cardinals sign Matt Shaughnessy
Cardinals signed DE Matt Shaughnessy to a one-year contract.
Shaughnessy is smartly taking a one-year, "prove-it" deal in an effort to rehab his value at age 26. Shaughnessy flashed legit Pro Bowl-caliber talent early in his career with Oakland -- specifically 2010 -- before a major shoulder injury wiped out his 2011 season and he returned less effective in 2012. If back to 100 percent, Shaughnessy could end up as the Cardinals' starting right defensive end. Bruce Arians promises to use Darnell Dockett inside more moving forward. Calais Campbell is Arizona's all-world left end, or "five technique."

Thu Mar 14 201322:37Matt Shaughnessy to visit the Titans
Free agent DE Matt Shaughnessy will visit the Titans on Friday.
That's if Shaughnessy makes it out of his Thursday night visit with the Cardinals. One of the better defensive ends left on the market behind all the aging veterans, Shaughnessy can play both end and tackle in a 4-3. He has 15.5 career sacks in four seasons.

Thu Mar 14 201320:19Shaughnessy to visit the Cardinals
Free agent DE Matt Shaughnessy will visit the Cardinals on Thursday night.
Beyond John Abraham, Osi Umenyiora, and Dwight Freeney, Shaughnessy is arguably the top free agent defensive end left after the Seahawks signed all the good, young ones. 26 years old, Shaughnessy could play defensive end or outside linebacker in Todd Bowles' defense. Bowles has promised to keep Arizona's 3-4 intact.

Tue May 22 201216:45Schaunessy not expected until training camp
Raiders RE Matt Schaughnessy's season-ending shoulder injury required surgery.
There are no details on the surgery, though coach Dennis Allen doesn't expect to see Schaughnessy on the field until training camp. The 2009 third-rounder was a late-season breakout star in 2010 before the shoulder injury limited him to just three games last year.

Wed Oct 19 201113:50Raiders lose DE Shaughnessy for rest of year
Raiders placed RE Matt Shaughnessy (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Shaughnessy hadn't played since Week 3, but it's still a big loss for a Raiders defensive line hoping to get back its best end later in the year. The 25-year-old former third-round steal racked up seven sacks and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 5 run-stopping defensive end last season. Oakland will close out the year using a rotation of Jarvis Moss and Kamerion Wimbley at right defensive end. Shaughnessy will return in 2012 on a cheap, $565,000 base salary.

Fri Oct 7 201115:51Matt Shaughnessy ruled out for Week 5
Raiders RE Matt Shaughnessy (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 5.
Shaughnessy is arguably Oakland's best young defensive lineman, so this is another boost to Arian Foster's Week 5 matchup. "I can't go out there and risk injuring it even more," said Shaughnessy. Jarvis Moss will start at right defensive end. While a capable edge pass rusher, Moss is a zero against the run.

Tue Jul 12 201114:54Shaughnessy most improved Raider in 2010
Coach Hue Jackson nominated DE Matt Shaughnessy as the most improved player on the Raiders last season.
Statistically speaking, Darren McFadden was one of the most improved players in the entire league. Perhaps Jackson wasn't as surprised by his success as much as Shaughnessy's late-season breakout after Trevor Scott went down an injury. Shaughnessy should open the season as the starting right end.

Fri Apr 8 201110:46Shaughness exceeded expectations in 2010
Matt Shaughnessy per-game snap percentage went from 49 percent before Week 11 to 83 percent over the final six games.
Shaughnessy exceeded expectations as an early-down specialist in the first half of the season, playing stout run defense. When Trevor Scott went down with a November injury, Shaughnessy's pass-rushing presence also increased as a full-time player. He's locked in as a well-rounded starter at right end in 2011.
