The Saints re-signed Sanford to a one-year contract Friday, NOLA.com's Evan Woodberry reports.

Sanford started for the Vikings from 2011 to 2013, but he managed just 13 tackles in nine games for the Redskins and Saints last season. He'll likely serve as one of the Saints' top backups at safety.

Sanford agreed to a contract with the Saints on Tuesday, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.

Sanford appeared in three games for the Redskins earlier this season after spending five years with the Vikings. He will provide some depth in the Saints' defensive backfield.

Sanford signed with the Redskins on Monday, The Washington Post reports.

Sanford started 44 games at safety for the Vikings since being a seventh round pick in 2009. However, with veteran Ryan Clark currently occupying the Redskins' starting free safety position, it's likely that Sanford will see most playing time on special teams moving forward.
