Sat Apr 8 202321:52Camilo Doval Tagged With The Loss Against Kansas City
San Francisco Giants right-hander Camilo Doval (0-1) allowed one run on a hit while striking out one across an inning in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals. He was tagged with the loss, Doval's first of the season. With the game tied 5-5 and a runner on third base in the top of the ninth inning, Nate Eaton scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch thrown by Doval. The 25-year-old has struggled in 2023, owning a 6.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and three strikeouts over three innings. Despite his recent struggles, Doval is San Francisco's primary closer and should continue to be rostered in all league formats.

Sun Apr 2 202308:07Camilo Doval Picks Up Save On Saturday
San Francisco Giants right-hander Camilo Doval got the final three outs of a 7-5 win over the New York Yankees on Saturday to earn his first save of the season. It was not a clean inning as Doval allowed one run on two hits and two walks. He did notch a strikeout in the frame. The run came on an Aaron Judge RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, pushing Anthony Volpe across the plate to score. Doval should see the bulk of the save chances for the Giants this season after converting 27 of 30 opportunities in 2022.

Sat Sep 3 202223:11Camilo Doval Completes Four-Out Save Saturday
San Francisco Giants reliever Camilo Doval pitched 1.1 innings of perfect baseball while striking out two to close out Saturday's 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. It was his 19th save of the season, which leads the club by a wide margin. Despite the Giants disappointing season, Doval's turning in a fantastic year after breaking onto the scene in 2021. The 25-year-old has posted a 2.78 ERA and 1.27 WHIP, and he's struck out 66 batters over 55 innings. He may not garner as many saves as the top arms in the league, but he's been locked into the closer role for most of the season and offers plenty of value in the other categories.

Wed Aug 24 202200:48Camilo Doval Earns Bumpy Save Tuesday
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval didn't have his best outing but did convert his 18th save of the season in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Tigers. Doval entered to pitch the ninth inning up by two. He got the first out on a groundout, but then allowed a double, a passed ball which advanced the runner to third, a single, and a walk to load the bases before getting the final two outs on a strikeout and another groundout. Neither Doval nor the Giants have been as successful as fantasy managers were hoping for, but he has only blown two saves with a 2.58 ERA, a 10.83 K/9 rate, and a 4.13 BB/9 rate. Doval's fantasy disappointment has mostly come from lack of save volume, rather than his overall performance and he should be in fantasy managers' lineups for the rest of the season.

Tue Aug 9 202201:00Camilo Doval Earns 15th Save Of Season Monday
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval picked up his 15th save of the season in Monday's 1-0 win over the Padres. Doval came in to close things out with a one-run lead and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout. The Giants and Doval have been sporadic at times this season, but he has converted all but two of his save opportunities with a 2.96 ERA and 11.23 K/9 rate. As such, he is still a middle-to-higher-end fantasy option in both roto and points leagues.

Tue May 31 202200:22Camilo Doval Notches Eighth Save Of Season Monday
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval picked up his eighth save of the season in Monday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Phillies. Doval came in to pitch the bottom of the 10th inning up by two with a ghost runner on second. He got the first out on a groundout, which advanced the runner to third. He then allowed a sacrifice fly for the second out and ended the game with a strikeout. The 24-year-old has done well this season, especially with teammate Jake McGee pitching poorly. Doval has converted all but one of his save opportunities and has a 3.26 ERA with 24 strikeouts and nine walks over 19 1/3 innings pitched. He definitely appears to be the Giants' bullpen arm to roster for fantasy at this time.

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval earned his sixth save of the season in Monday's 7-6 win over the Rockies. Doval entered the game to pitch the ninth inning up by one. He got the first hitter out on a flyout, allowed a walk, got the second out on a strikeout, and got the final out on a groundout. The 24-year-old has now converted all but one of his save opportunities with a 2.45 ERA, 20 strikeouts, and seven walks over 14 2/3 innings pitched. He has taken over as the team's closer, especially with Jake McGee (back) on the 15-day injured list with lower back tightness. This makes him a useful fantasy closer option at this time.

Sat Apr 23 202218:23Camilo Doval Converts His Third Save On Saturday
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval put a cap on the team's 5-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday to earn his third save of the year. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out one. After blowing his first save attempt this season, he has now converted three straight. Unfortunately for Doval, Jake McGee is still very much in the picture. McGee is 2-for-2 in save opportunities and he had the team's most recent one before Saturday. The 10-5 Giants should provide ample save opportunities going forward, so fantasy managers in leagues where saves are scarce should make sure that both Doval and McGee are rostered.

Fri Apr 8 202219:59Camilo Doval Blows Three-Run Lead
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval was asked to take the ball in the ninth inning of Friday's game against the Miami Marlins. Veteran lefty Jake McGee threw a scoreless eighth inning before handing the ball to Doval. Sadly, Doval allowed three hits and three earned runs to cough up the lead to the Marlins. Luckily, the Giants tied it in the ninth, so Doval wasn't given the loss. The two teams continue to play in extra innings, so the result is still to be determined. The 24-year-old was solid out of the bullpen for the Giants last season. He posted a 3.00 ERA with 27/9 K/BB and three saves in 27 games in 2021. The Giants are likely to give Doval another chance as the closer, but his leash could be much shorter now.

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval shut the door in Monday's NLDS Game 3 1-0 win over the Dodgers. While his regular season and postseason experience have given just a small sample size, it is clear that Doval has what it takes to help the Giants win a championship this season and be the potential closer of the future for them.

Doval played a key role in helping the Giants push to win the division and should continue to be an important arm for them in the playoffs. His performance this season makes it clear that fantasy managers should keep an eye on him in dynasty and keeper leagues, as he has what it takes to be the Giants' closer in the future.

Wed Sep 29 202110:38Camilo Doval Earns First Career Save Tuesday
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval picked up his first career save in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks. With Jake McGee (oblique) on the injured list, the closer role has typically been assigned to Tyler Rogers. However, Rogers came in to pitch the eighth inning and allowed two runs, leaving the Giants only up by two heading into the ninth. Doval then entered the game, got a first-out ground out, allowed a double, but then got the next two hitters out, including a strikeout to end the game. The 24-year-old rookie has shown good stuff this season, compiling a 3.38 ERA and 31.6% strikeout rate with five wins and five holds. His fastball velocity and slider movement make him a viable candidate to be an impact relief arm for the Giants, but he simply has too many established arms ahead of him at this point to see routine save opportunities.
