Thu Feb 27 201414:48Ethan Martin exits game with apparent injury
Ethan Martin left Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays with an apparent arm injury.
Martin didn't have much life on his pitches and strolled off the field alongside a trainer after allowing three runs on three hits and a walk. The 24-year-old former first-round pick had been battling for an Opening Day bullpen spot. He'll be examined by team doctors.

Sun Sep 29 201300:17Ethan Martin pitches decently in spot start
Ethan Martin pitched decently in a spot start against the Braves on Saturday, surrendering just one run on four hits over three innings.
Martin struck out a pair and issued one free pass on the night. The only blemish on his night was a sacrifice fly by Freddie Freeman in the first inning. The 24-year-old right-hander finishes his rookie season with an uninspiring 6.08 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 47/26 K/BB ratio in 40 innings. He's almost assuredly slated for more minor league seasoning to begin the 2014 campaign.

Fri Sep 27 201319:18Ethan Martin expected to start on Saturday
Ethan Martin is expected to start for the Phillies on Saturday in place of the injured Roy Halladay.
The Phillies haven't officially announced the move. Martin, who was demoted to the bullpen earlier in the month, is only expected to work two or three innings in the ballgame and remains a very poor fantasy option.

Sat Sep 7 201310:47Ethan Martin demoted to Phillies bullpen
The Phillies have demoted Ethan Martin to the bullpen for the remainder of the season.
To say that Martin has struggled to this point would be a bit of an understatement. The 24-year-old righty has posted a 6.90 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 34/21 K/BB ratio over 30 innings in his first seven starts. He's plenty talented, but needs to significantly improve him command if he wants to stick in the Phillies rotation in 2014.

Tue Sep 3 201323:04Ethan Martin lit up again on Tuesday
Ethan Martin was charged with five runs on four hits and five walks over just 4 2/3 frames in Tuesday's loss to the Nationals.
He allowed a three-run jack in the second inning, a longball that was preceded by a hit by pitch and a walk. Martin has struck out 34 over 30 innings for the Phillies, but he's also walked 21 and holds a 6.90 ERA. Fantasy owners should steer clear of him next week at home against the Padres.

Thu Aug 29 201317:11Martin K's nine in four innings Thursday
Ethan Martin struck out a career-high nine batters Thursday against the Mets, but gave up three runs over four innings before exiting.
Martin also gave up four hits and three walks, so he exhausted his pitch count early. The 25-year-old has 32 strikeouts over his first 25 1/3 innings in the majors, but he has also allowed 29 hits and walked 16 batters. He's a risky fantasy play.

Sat Aug 24 201323:41Ethan Martin fails to make it through first
Ethan Martin was pulled in the first inning of his start Saturday night against the Diamondbacks.
Martin yielded three hits, three walks and three earned runs in the top of the first inning while securing only two outs. The 24-year-old right-hander has a brutal 6.33 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in five starts this season.

Mon Aug 19 201322:22Ethan Martin strikes out six in victory
Ethan Martin pitched 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball to beat the Rockies on Monday.
Since getting lit up his first time out, Martin has bounced back with three decent outings in a row, leaving him 2-2 with a 5.23 ERA. His command is shaky, so he'd be a hard guy to trust in NL-only leagues. He'll get the Diamondbacks next.

Tue Aug 13 201321:45Martin falls to Braves -- again -- on Tuesday
Ethan Martin allowed three runs in five innings against the Braves on Tuesday.
It was Martin's third start in the big leagues and second facing the Braves, not an easy assignment for a fresh-faced rookie. Martin fared better the second time around after getting shelled for six runs in 4 1/3 innings in his debut, though -- he gave up six hits and two walks, striking out six on Tuesday. His next assignment gets a little easier, as he'll face the Rockies at home on Monday.

Thu Aug 8 201317:20Ethan Martin goes five innings for first win
Ethan Martin tossed five innings of one-run ball Thursday against the Cubs for his first major league win.
Martin was the victim of the big inning in his major league debut last Friday against the Braves, but he managed to avoid that this time around. While he walked three batters, he gave up just four hits. The lone run scored on a solo homer by Nate Schierholtz in the top of the fourth inning. Martin's rotation spot should be safe, but we wouldn't trust him in most fantasy leagues yet, especially with a start against the red-hot Braves coming up next.

Fri Aug 2 201323:25Ethan Martin struggles in debut vs. Braves
Ethan Martin struggled in his major league debut Friday against the Braves, giving up six runs over 4 1/3 innings.
Martin held the Braves to one run over the first four innings, but things unraveled for him in the fifth, as he gave up an RBI single to Justin Upton and back-to-back homers to Brian McCann and Chris Johnson. The final run scored after he was removed for Luis Garcia. The rookie right-hander struck out six and walked three in the loss. He figures to stick in the rotation for now, but most fantasy owners can afford to wait and see.

Thu Aug 1 201313:20Phils promote Ethan Martin for Thurs. debut
Phillies purchased the contract of RHP Ethan Martin from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Martin will make his major league debut in a start Friday night against the Braves. It's a tough matchup for the 24-year-old right-hander, who does not have the most inspiring numbers this summer in the minors. He should be ignored in standard fantasy leagues against Atlanta.

Thu Aug 1 201313:00Ethan Martin to make MLB debut on Friday
Ethan Martin will make a spot start for the Phillies on Friday night against the Braves.
It will be the 24-year-old right-hander's major league debut. Martin, the 15th overall pick in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft, has posted an underwhelming 4.12 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 107/67 K/BB ratio in 115 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He's not a recommended fantasy pick against a good Braves team.

Sun Apr 11 201013:45Dodgers prospect Martin strikes out nine
2008 first-round pick Ethan Martin pitched five scoreless innings and struck out nine Saturday for Single-A Inland Empire.
Martin has maybe the highest ceiling among Dodgers pitching prospects, though he's probably less likely to reach his than Chris Withrow or Josh Lindblom. He went 6-8 with a 3.87 ERA and a 120/61 K/BB ratio in 100 innings in low-A ball last year.
