LHP Eric Surkamp gave up six earned runs over 4 2/3 innings in the 6-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. It is the highest total he has allowed in a start since he gave up seven against the Cincinnati Reds on July 23, 2013. He has failed to pitch at least six innings in 10 consecutive starts. "Tough lineup for him, a lot of good right-handed hitters with some power," manager Bob Melvin said. "You get through one and there's just as dangerous a one behind him." Said Surkamp: "I actually felt today I was more on the glove than I had been my first couple of starts. I just got my (butt) kicked. That's pretty much all there is to it. They're a good lineup. You make mistakes, they're going to make you pay for it. The middle of that order is probably the best in baseball. Just a tough lineup when you're not on top of your game."

LHP Eric Surkamp will be called up from Triple-A Nashville on Friday to start that night against the Mariners in Seattle, manager Bob Melvin said. Surkamp will pitch in place of LHP Felix Doubront, who went on the 15-day disabled list Monday with an injury to his left elbow. Surkamp went 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA in six spring training appearances and had a strong outing against the Giants in Oakland's final exhibition game, taking over in the second inning for Doubront, who had to leave the game. "We have some options, but certainly the way he's pitched, we'll try to ride that confidence," Melvin said. Surkamp, who was drafted in the sixth round by San Francisco in 2012, is 4-3 with a 6.47 ERA in 43 major league appearances, including seven starts.

Surkamp was optioned to Triple-A on Tuesday, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

Surkamp will be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday, but Dodgers manager Don Mattingly did not say if the lefty will start Monday's game against the Phillies, Bill Shaikin of the LA Times reports.
After Carlos Frias (back) was placed on the disabled list, Surkamp was scratched from Sunday's start for Triple-A Oklahoma City. All signs point to Surkamp starting in place of Frias on Monday, but it's possible Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has something else in mind. The 27-year-old Surkamp isn't a highly regarded prospect, and he owns a 4.50 ERA and 6.9 K/9 for Oklahoma City.
Sun Jul 5 201520:02Surkamp scratched from Sunday's start for Triple-A Oklahoma City
Surkamp was scratched from Sunday's start for Triple-A Oklahoma City, suggesting he could be called up to start Monday's game against the Phillies, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.
With Carlos Frias (back) placed on the disabled list, the Dodgers need a starter for Tuesday and Sunday. The 27-year-old Surkamp was acquired in a May trade with the White Sox, after spending much of the last two seasons working as a reliever. He has a 4.50 ERA, 5.49 FIP, 6.9 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 through seven appearances (six starts) with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Even if he's called up, Surkamp probably won't stick in the rotation for more than a start or two.
