Tue Mar 11 201411:42Maddon won't discount Ovideo for OD roster
Rays manager Joe Maddon said he's not giving up hope of Juan Carlos Oviedo (visa problems) cracking Opening Day roster.
The right-hander is stuck in the Dominican Republic due to visa problems. Oviedo, formerly known as Leo Nunez, spent the 2013 season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. He's been limited to just three rehab innings over the last two seasons. His odds of breaking camp with the big squad are growing bleaker by the day.

Thu Dec 5 201317:43Rays re-sign Oviedo to one-year deal
Rays re-signed RHP Carlos Oviedo to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
The deal is now official. Oviedo, formerly known as Leo Nunez, spent the 2013 season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. The deal includes another $1.4 million with incentives, so he could max out at $2.9 million if all goes well. He could be in the mix at the closer role for Tampa Bay next season, though the recently-acquired Heath Bell might be the favorite.

Sat Nov 30 201312:11Oviedo expected to receive major league deal
According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, Juan Carlos Oviedo is expected to receive a major league contract from the Rays.
The deal won't be announced until later in the week, and terms of the contract have yet to be disclosed, but it will presumably be for less than the $2 million option the Rays declined. With the uncertainty at the back of the Rays bullpen, it's not unthinkable that Oviedo could work his way into save opportunities at some point this season.

Fri Nov 29 201318:32Rays set to re-sign Juan Carlos Oviedo
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays are set to re-sign Juan Carlos Oviedo.
No official word yet, or contract terms have been disclosed. The artist formerly known as Leo Nunez spent the 2013 season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. With the recent success that the Rays have had in reclamation bullpen arms, he could prove to be a very nice low-cost addition.

Mon Nov 4 201323:25Rays decline Juan Carlos Oviedo's 2014 option
Rays declined RHP Juan Carlos Oviedo's $2 million option for 2014.
They'll pay him a $30,000 buyout instead. Oviedo missed all of this season while coming back from Tommy John surgery and had lat issues during his rehab. Assuming he's healthy, the man formally known as Leo Nunez could prove to be a nice under-the-radar bargain on a one-year, incentive-laden deal.

Fri Aug 16 201310:22Juan Carlos Oviedo dealing with lat soreness
Juan Carlos Oviedo (elbow) had to be shut down from throwing for a few days recently because of lat soreness.
It doesn't appear to be a major setback, but it won't help Oviedo's chances at returning next month to fill a role in the Rays' bullpen. Tampa would probably view his return as an unexpected bonus at this point.

Tue Sep 4 201212:57Ovideo moved to 60-day disabled list
Marlins transferred RHP Juan Carlos Oviedo from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move cleared a spot on the 40-man roster. Oviedo was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow in July and is scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews this week. It's possible he could need Tommy John surgery, which could put him at risk for missing the entire 2013 season.

Juan Carlos Oviedo will have his right elbow examined by Dr. James Andrews this week.

Marlins activated RHP Juan Carlos Oviedo; placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow sprain.
Oviedo was activated because his eight-week suspension for falsifying his identity came to an end. Wed Jul 18 201210:20Oviedo (elbow) not expected to pitch in '12
The Marlins don't expect Juan Carlos Oviedo (elbow) to pitch this season.
"This is not looking good for him to pitch for us this year," said Marlins president Larry Beinfest. "He was definitely in the plan. We anticipated him pitching for us. But right now we have to move ahead with the thought that he is not going to." Oviedo, formerly known as Leo Nunez, was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow over the weekend. It's not yet known if he'll attempt to rehab the injury or undergo Tommy John surgery, but odds are he has already thrown his last pitch as a member of the Marlins.

Juan Carlos Oviedo was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Oviedo suffered the injury while pitching in the minors as he neared the end of his eight-week suspension. It's not clear if he'll attempt to rehab the injury or opt for Tommy John surgery, but he won't be joining the Marlins' bullpen in the near future. The Marlins moved to a closer-by-committee coming out of the All-Star break, but Steve Cishek is the pitcher to own at the moment.
