Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) worked out Friday in Arizona.

Tue Apr 17 201220:09Freddy Sanchez pushed back until May
Freddy Sanchez's (shoulder) timetable has been pushed back to early May after he had a minor setback earlier this week.
As expected. He hasn't been able to completely shake the soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder, so he'll need at least a couple weeks of rehab games once he leaves extended spring training. Emmanuel Burriss and Ryan Theriot will continue to handle second base until Sanchez is ready.

Mon Apr 16 201219:52Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) has 'minor setback'
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) had a "minor setback" with his recovery, and his rehab assignment will not begin Tuesday as originally hoped.
Sanchez experienced some soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder, so the assignment will be pushed back to at least Wednesday or Thursday. He also dealt with some soreness last month, which led to him getting a cortisone shot. Sanchez had been slated to return later this month, but we have to think that timetable might now be pushed back a bit.

Fri Apr 6 201216:53Sanchez making progress with shoulder
Freddy Sanchez said Friday that his surgically-repaired shoulder is finally responding following rest and a cortisone shot.
Sanchez recently played six innings in an intrasquad camp game, fielding one grounder in the process. He is scheduled to take infield practice Saturday and could begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Fresno as soon as next week. However, there's no set timetable for his return.

Thu Apr 5 201220:25Sanchez (shoulder) could head to Triple-A soo
Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) could begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Fresno as soon as next week.
Sanchez was given a cortisone shot a little over a week ago to help speed his recovery from shoulder surgery. The biggest issue has been his throwing, so he'll likely a couple weeks of rehab games to get ready. Ryan Theriot and Emmanuel Burriss will split playing time at second base for now.

Giants placed 2B Freddy Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with a right shoulder injury.

Thu Mar 29 201211:42Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) to begin year on DL
Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) will begin the season on the disabled list.
This doesn't come as a big surprise, as Sanchez recently received a cortisone shot in his surgically-repaired shoulder after hitting a "plateau" in his rehab. He'll likely need at least the first couple weeks of the season to get ready. The Giants have Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot on the roster, but Emmanuel Burriss is considered the favorite to take his place at second base.

Mon Mar 26 201222:44Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) gets cortisone shot
Freddy Sanchez was given a cortisone shot in his surgically-repaired shoulder after hitting a "plateau" in his rehab.
Sanchez hasn't had any problems playing catch up to 120 feet, but he's hesitant to throw across his body or with any real authority. The Giants are hopeful that the cortisone shot will allow him to make some progress, but he's a near-lock that he'll need to spend the early part of the season on the disabled list. As of now, Emmanuel Burriss is the favorite to start at second base. Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot are both reportedly on the trading block.

Mon Mar 26 201214:54Sanchez (shoulder) to sit out for a few days
Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) will be shut down for a few days.
Perhaps we're burying the lead here. As Andrew Baggerly of CSN Bay Area writes: "A bad omen: Freddy Sanchez is off for a couple days. At this point, it's not an overreaction to think shoulder is career threatening." It's pretty much a given that Sanchez will begin the season on the disabled list, but the 34-year-old second baseman may have a longer-than-expected-stay on the shelf.

Fri Mar 23 201220:04F. Sanchez (shoulder) to play in minors game
Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) is expected to play second base in a minor league game this weekend.
The Giants don't want Sanchez to make throws on grounders in the hole if he's not comfortable, so it's clear he's not anywhere close to playing in a Cactus League game. It's pretty much a given that he'll begin the season on the disabled list.

Tue Mar 20 201220:03Sanchez (shoulder) to play catch Wednesday
Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) is scheduled to play catch Wednesday and take infield practice Thursday.
If all goes well, he could play in a game as soon as Friday. Sanchez hasn't had any setbacks with his surgically-repaired shoulder, but he has been a little tentative during infield practice. The 34-year-old second baseman recently admitted that he might not be ready for Opening Day.

Mon Mar 19 201218:02Sanchez not sure of status for Opening Day
Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) acknowledged Monday that his availability for Opening Day is a question mark.
Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said something similar on Sunday, but now we have it directly from the horse's mouth. Sanchez hasn't had any setbacks with his surgically-repaired right shoulder, but he doesn't feel he's getting enough mustard on double-play throws. Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot would likely share playing time at second base if he needs extra recovery time.

Sun Mar 18 201219:07Bochy: Sanchez doubtful for Opening Day
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Freddy Sanchez might not be ready for Opening Day.
A few days ago, Bochy said Sanchez, who has been limited to DHing in Cactus League games, looked "tentative" during infield practice. The veteran infielder is working his way back from shoulder surgery. Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot could be in line for additional at-bats if Sanchez begins the season on the shelf.

Sanchez has served as the designated hitter in his first three Cactus League games, going 2-for-10 (.200) with a walk, two strikeouts and a run scored. The Giants are easing the 34-year-old back into action following shoulder surgery, but he is expected to be ready for Opening Day.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) will make his first spring start at second base sometime in the middle of this week.
The Giants originally said he would play in the field Monday, but they've pushed that back a couple days. The team is saying it's not a setback, but that they just want Sanchez to do more prep work on the field. Sanchez is expected to be ready for Opening Day, barring any setbacks.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) is expected to serve as the Giants' DH in Friday's Cactus League game.

Sun Mar 4 201212:50Freddy Sanchez works out with teammates
Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) worked out of the field Saturday with teammates for the first time this spring.
In his most significant action so far during camp, Sanchez fielded grounders and threw the ball to double-play partner Brandon Crawford. Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says Sanchez, who is coming back from major shoulder surgery, "was not throwing the ball a great distance, but he was not babying it, either." The second baseman will sit out the first week of Cactus League games but is expected to be ready by Opening Day, barring a setback.

Fri Mar 2 201212:55Freddy Sanchez dealing with back spasms
Freddy Sanchez has returned to drills after being sidelined recently due to back spasms.
Sanchez, of course, is coming back from major shoulder surgery, so he admitted to being frustrated when the back issue cropped up. "I was just like, 'Come on. Really?' " he said. "I did both minicamps during the offseason, all that stuff. For this to happen was like, wow." The good news is that his back doesn't seem to be much an issue anymore, but Sanchez will sit out the first week of Cactus League games while he and his shoulder ease back into things.
