Wed Feb 25 2015 | 11:28 | Kubel hasn't officially retired |
Kubel hasn't officially retired, but isn't actively seeking a contract, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. |
Kubel hit just .224 in 45 games for the Twins last season before being released and he didn't play again. It sounds like he's basically decided to retire at age 32. |
Mon Jun 16 2014 | 08:25 | Twins cut ties with veteran OF Jason Kubel |
Twins released OF Jason Kubel. |
Kubel refused an assignment to Triple-A Rochester and is now officially on the free agent market. The veteran outfielder batted just .224/.313/.295 with one home run over 176 plate appearances with Minnesota, but he should be able to find a minor league contract. |

Fri Jun 13 2014 | 19:40 | Jason Kubel refuses assignment to Triple-A |
Jason Kubel refused his assignment to Triple-A Rochester and is likely to be released by the Twins. |
The veteran outfielder struggled at the plate during his time with the Twins, slashing a meager .224/.313/.295 with one homer over 176 plate appearances. He should be able to find another organization willing to give him a chance, but it will most certainly have to be on a minor league pact. |

Sun Jun 8 2014 | 11:21 | Twins designate Jason Kubel for assignment |
Twins designated OF/DH Jason Kubel for assignment. |
He's making way for the arrival of Kendrys Morales. Kubel sports an ugly .224/.313/.295 batting line with one homer over 176 plate appearances this season, so the move comes as no surprise. He won't have trouble finding a gig elsewhere but will surely have to settle for a minor league deal. |

Sun May 25 2014 | 01:04 | Jason Kubel goes hitless in loss |
Jason Kubel went 0-for-4 in Saturday's loss and is hitting .197 with no extra-base hits and one RBI in 61 at-bats this month. |
The Twins are about to bring back Josh Willingham and really should be playing Oswaldo Arcia as well, so one wonders if there is going to be any room left for Kubel. He did have a nice April, hitting .288/.360/.425, but even then, he was striking out a ton. He's up to 50 strikeouts after tonight, with a 31% rate per plate appearance that's among the 10 worst in baseball. |

Fri Apr 25 2014 | 23:47 | Jason Kubel has three hits in loss to Tigers |
Jason Kubel went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in Friday's loss to the Tigers. |
Kubel scored a run and drove in a run in the contest. He's off to a very strong start at the plate, slashing .319/.395/.472 with 12 RBI in the early going. Fantasy owners who gambled on a rebound in the reserve rounds of drafts are reaping tremendous profits thus far. |

Wed Apr 9 2014 | 17:00 | Jason Kubel continues hot start |
Jason Kubel continued his hot start to the season Wednesday, going 4-for-5 with a solo home run in a loss to the Athletics. |
Kubel's solo blast was the only run the Twins could muster off of Jesse Chavez in seven innings. The outfielder/designated hitter is now batting a cool .462/.481/.731 with six RBI this season as he looks to bounce back from a terrible 2013 campaign. |

Sat Mar 29 2014 | 11:14 | Twins add Kubel to 40-man roster |
Twins purchased the contract of DH/OF Jason Kubel from Triple-A Rochester. |
Kubel hasn't been all that impressive this spring, hitting just .186 (8-for-43) with one home run and a 16/6 K/BB ratio, but he has secured a spot on the Opening Day roster. The 31-year-old is to see time as a designated hitter and backup outfielder this season and could potentially hit in the middle of the order. This will be his second stint with the Twins, as he previously played with the club from 2004-2011. |

Tue Mar 25 2014 | 21:54 | Jason Kubel told he'll make team |
Jason Kubel has been told that he will make the Twins' Opening Day roster. |
It was pretty much a formality that will become official at some point before the March 31 opener. Kubel is hitting just .216 with one homer in 13 games this spring, but he's a known commodity. He'll receive regular at-bats in the DH spot while also backing up in the outfield. "I believe he progressed during the spring and started taking better at-bats," Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said. "I still believe he's a professional hitter with something left. He has the ability to drive in runs and provide offense." |

Fri Mar 21 2014 | 16:50 | Jason Kubel reaches three times |
Jason Kubel reached all three times, going 2-for-2 with a walk Friday against the Mets. |
Chris Parmelee was probably the biggest threat to render Kubel's presence on the Twins roster unnecessary, but he hasn't done much this spring. Kubel hasn't done much at all himself -- he's batting .200 with one homer and two RBI -- but he'll likely be the DH against right-handers anyway. |

Sat Mar 8 2014 | 15:57 | Jason Kubel goes 0-for-3 in loss |
Jason Kubel went 0-for-3 and struck out twice against the Jays on Saturday, leaving him 1-for-14 with seven strikeouts this spring. |
Kubel seemed penciled in as the Twins' primary DH when he signed in December, but since it was a minor league deal, he certainly isn't promised anything. If he continues to struggle this spring, he shouldn't make the team. |

Sun Jan 26 2014 | 09:15 | Jason Kubel blames struggles on quad issue |
Jason Kubel on Saturday blamed a lingering quad issue for his struggles at the plate last season. |
Kubel put up an ugly .216/.293/.317 slash line with five homers over 97 contests for the D'Backs and Indians in 2013, but he thinks a quad ailment suffered in April was the root cause to his problems. "A couple games back into it, I dove for a ball in the outfield and it came back and stayed for three months," said Kubel. "It was my left leg and I couldn't run. It was there all year, and it made it tough. I believe that's what led me to be down all year." Kubel is back with the Twins on a minor league deal but is the favorite to see the lion's share of at-bats in the DH spot. |

Tue Dec 17 2013 | 13:16 | Kubel to earn $2 million if he makes Twins |
Jason Kubel will earn $2 million in 2014 if he makes the Twins' Opening Day roster and can earn another $1 million via incentives. |
Kubes will earn $150,000 if he reaches 300 and 350 plate appearances, and will pocket an additional $200,000 if he makes 400 PAs. An additional $150,000 is available for spending 30 and 60 days on Minnesota's active roster and Kubel will net $200,000 if he makes it to 90 days. Kubel and the Twins reunited last week on a minor league contract. Kubel slugged 30 home runs for the Diamondbacks in 2012 but careened to an ugly .216/.293/.317 slash line with five homers over 97 contests this past season. The veteran outfielder should see plenty of starts at the corner outfield spots and DH. |

Fri Dec 13 2013 | 11:39 | Twins bring back outfielder Jason Kubel |
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Twins have signed Jason Kubel. |
Darren Wolfson of 1500ESPN.com is saying it's a minor league deal. Kubel slugged 30 homers for the D'Backs in 2012 but fell off the map last season, batting just .216/.293/.317 with five homers over 97 contests. He'll see plenty of starts at the corner outfield spots and at DH. Kubel, of course, was drafted by the Twins and spent his first seven big league seasons in Minnesota. |

Fri Dec 13 2013 | 10:42 | Twins considering reunion with Jason Kubel |
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Twins have had talks with Jason Kubel about bringing him back. |
Kubel, of course, was drafted by the Twins and spent his first seven big league seasons in Minnesota. He slugged 30 homers for the D'Backs in 2012 but fell off the map last season, batting just .216/.293/.317 with five homers over 97 contests. Kubel wouldn't necessarily have a starting job in Minnesota, but the Twins should be able to find plenty of at-bats for him between on the outfield corners and at DH. |

Fri Nov 1 2013 | 08:50 | Indians decline Jason Kubel's option |
Indians declined OF Jason Kubel's $7.5 million mutual option for 2014. |
Certainly no surprise, as Kubel played sparingly down the stretch for the Tribe after being acquired via trade in late August. He hit 30 homers in 2012 but followed it up with just five dingers and a .216/.293/.317 batting line in 2013. Kubel is just 31, though, and shouldn't have trouble finding a starting job somewhere. |

Fri Aug 30 2013 | 12:36 | Indians pick up Jason Kubel from Diamondbacks |
Indians acquired OF Jason Kubel and cash considerations from the Diamondbacks for a player to be named later or cash considerations. |
The D'Backs will pick up nearly all of the $2.5 million owed to Kubel, which includes next year's $1 million buyout. The 31-year-old batted just .220/.288/.324 for Arizona before being designated for assignment earlier this week. He'll see some time at designated hitter and the corner outfield spots against right-handed pitching. |

Fri Aug 30 2013 | 01:38 | Report: Indians to acquire Jason Kubel |
A source told MLB.com that the Diamondbacks and Indians have agreed to a Jason Kubel deal. |
The Diamondbacks will get a minor leaguer and cash, according to the report. That doesn't quite sound right, though: it's more likely that the Indians are the ones getting the cash in the trade, perhaps enough to cover Kubel's $1 million buyout for 2014. Kubel will likely get a chance to take over as the Indians' DH against right-handers, making him a nice late pickup in AL-only leagues. |

Thu Aug 29 2013 | 23:33 | Report: Tribe close to acquiring Jason Kubel |
Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that the Indians are close to acquiring Jason Kubel. |
Nick Piecoro has confirmed the report, saying that Cleveland is "looking like a strong possibility" to land the outfielder. Kubel was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, but it's not a surprise that Arizona hasn't had trouble finding a landing spot for him. There's no word yet on what the D'Backs might get back in return. |

Diamondbacks designated OF Jason Kubel for assignment. |
Kubel hadn't been playing much lately and didn't produce when he was in the lineup, batting just .220/.288/.324 this season over 89 games. He'll clear waivers, with the D'Backs having to pick up the remainder of his $7.5 million salary for this season, as well as a $1 million buyout for 2014. |
