Wed Jun 22 202212:41Carlos Santana Homers, Drives In Five Tuesday
Kansas City Royals first baseman Carlos Santana enjoyed a stellar day at the dish Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, five RBI, and two runs scored. Santana's days on the Kansas City roster seemed to be numbered as recently as a few weeks ago with top prospects Vinnie Pasquantino and Nick Pratto on the way, but Santana has slashed .327/.459/.510 in his last 15 games, earning him at least a little more time. He makes for a much better play in points leagues than categories.

Fri May 13 202216:34Carlos Santana Reinstated And Starting On Friday
The Kansas City Royals reinstated first baseman Carlos Santana (ankle) from the 10-day injured list on Friday. He will be batting cleanup and slotting in as the team's designated hitter for Friday's game at Coors Field against left-hander Kyle Freeland and the Colorado Rockies. Catcher Sebastian Rivero was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Santana is slashing .159/.312/.254 with one home run, six RBI and six runs over 19 games on the year.

Wed May 4 202211:29Carlos Santana Lands On Injured List With Ankle Bursitis
The Kansas City Royals placed first baseman Carlos Santana (ankle) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. He is dealing with right ankle bursitis. The move to the injured list is retroactive to May 3. In a corresponding move, the Royals called up third baseman Emmanuel Rivera from Triple-A. Santana has just four extra-base hits over 21 games this year (one home run, three doubles) and he's slashing .159/.312/.254. Ryan O'Hearn should fill in as the team's primary first baseman while Santana is out.

Tue May 3 202218:27Carlos Santana Scratched From Tuesday's Lineup
Kansas City Royals first baseman Carlos Santana has been scratched from the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Ryan O'Hearn will now be covering first base and batting cleanup. No reason has been given yet for why Santana has been removed from the lineup. The 36-year-old is hitting just .159 through 19 games this year. However, per usual, he's demonstrating elite plate discipline, ranking in the 97th percentile in both walk rate (18.2%) and strikeout rate (10.4%).

Mon Oct 4 202109:19Carlos Santana Goes 3-For-4 In Season Finale
Kansas City Royals first baseman Carlos Santana had a strong showing at the plate in the team's season finale against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. He went 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI. It was just his fourth multi-hit game since the start of September as he slumped his way to the 2021 finish line. It was a disappointing first year in Kansas City for Santana, who played in 158 games and slashed .214/.319/.342 with 19 home runs, 69 RBI and 66 runs. After posting a career-high .515 slugging percentage in 2019, he has now failed to top a .350 slugging percentage in two straight years. He remains one of the league's best in drawing walks (13.1% walk rate), but he offers little else of value for fantasy purposes at this point in his career.

Thu Sep 16 202112:04Carlos Santana Gets A Breather Thursday
Kansas City Royals first baseman Carlos Santana is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Oakland Athletics, according to MLB.com. Santana has been dreadful with the bat this season, slashing .219/.322/.359 with 19 HRs, 63 RBI, and 63 runs in 141 games. He's only relevant in deep leagues at this point, thanks to his double-digit home run potential. With Santana on the bench, Ryan O'Hearn will head to first base, while Salvador Perez will DH, and Sebastian Rivero will start at catcher. He's appeared in just 13 games this season and has put up poor numbers thus far. He has .464 OPS with no home runs and should be left alone on the waiver wire.

Thu Aug 26 202118:20Carlos Santana Remains Out Of Lineup Thursday
Kansas City Royals first baseman Carlos Santana (hip) remains out of the lineup on Thursday. Santana exited Monday's game with a Grade 1 hip flexor strain, and has been held out of the lineup ever since. He's still being considered day-to-day for the time being, although the longer he's out the more likely it seems he'll be taking a trip to the IL. In the meantime, Hunter Dozier is getting the start at first base on Thursday and will bat fourth against the Mariners.

Tue Aug 24 202107:22Carlos Santana Suffers Grade 1 Hip Flexor Strain
Kansas City Royals first baseman Carlos Santana (hip) was removed from Monday's game against the Houston Astros after suffering a Grade 1 hip flexor strain. The injury came in the ninth inning after he ran to first base to beat out a double play. He is being called day-to-day by the team and he is scheduled to be re-evaluated on Tuesday. Santana has struggled at the plate so far this month. He's slashing .198/.270/.247 with no home runs and just four RBI in August.

Wed Aug 11 202112:57Carlos Santana Out Of The Lineup Wednesday
Kansas City Royals' first baseman Carlos Santana isn't starting Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees. He will get the day off after going 0-for-10 with two strikeouts during the first two games of the series. Ryan O'Hearn will replace Santana in the lineup and is batting sixth on Wednesday. O'Hearn can be used as a streamer after hitting .500 (4-for-8) with a triple, homer, and six RBI over his last four games. Santana is slashing .224/.338/.377 in 2021 but has struggled mightily in August. The 35-year-old is 5-for-35 with no extra-base hits across nine games during the month. Fantasy managers in standard 10-12 team leagues can move on from the veteran first baseman.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Sandoval had his no-hit bid broken up with one out in the ninth inning on a soft double by rookie Brent Rooker and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Saturday night. Sandoval, a 24-year-old lefty who began the game with a 3-13 career record, struck out a career-high 13. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season. The big league record of eight was set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was permitted. The Twins hadn’t come close to a hit until Rooker, who fanned his first three times up, flared an opposite-field fly that fell just inside the line in right. Sandoval (3-4) smiled after the ball fell, retired the next batter and then was pulled after 108 pitches. He walked one and hit two. Closer Raisel Iglesias allowed an RBI double to Josh Donaldson before getting his 21st save in 25 chances. José Berríos (7-5) allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in perhaps his final start for Minnesota. ASTROS 4, RANGERS... [More]

BOSTON (AP) — Rafael Devers hit two home runs, including a go-ahead blast in the fifth inning, to help the Boston Red Sox best New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole for the second straight time at Fenway Park in a 6-2 victory Friday night. The Red Sox maintained their one-game AL East lead over Tampa Bay and increased their lead to nine games over the third-place Yankees. Yacksel Rios (3-0) got the victory, pitching two scoreless innings to cap a strong night from the bullpen after starter Eduardo Rodriguez left in the second inning after experiencing migraine symptoms. Sun Jul 18 202101:01Shooting outside Nationals Park halts Padres-Washington game
WASHINGTON (AP) — The game between the San Diego Padres and Washington was suspended in the sixth inning Saturday night after police said there was a shooting outside Nationals Park. The shooting, an exchange of gunfire between people in two cars, left three people injured, according to Ashan Benedict, the Metropolitan Police Department’s executive assistant police chief. One of the people who was shot was a woman who was attending the game and who was struck while she was outside the stadium, he said. Her injuries weren’t considered life-threatening. Two people who were in one of the cars later walked into a local hospital with gunshot wounds and were being questioned by investigators, Benedict said, and the extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately clear. Investigators were still trying to locate the second vehicle involved in the shooting. The gunshots caused panic among fans inside the stadium, some of whom ducked for cover, hiding underneath tables and behind seats as announcers... [More]
