Wed Dec 4 201311:05White Sox bring back Konerko on 1-year deal
White Sox re-signed 1B/DH Paul Konerko to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.
Konerko will receive $1.5 million in 2014 while another $1 million will be deferred to 2021. The 37-year-old is expected to serve as Jose Abreu's backup at first base while seeing some time at DH against left-handers. However, he likely won't get enough at-bats to be relevant in most mixed fantasy leagues.

Wed Dec 4 201309:39Report: Konerko will return to White Sox
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal hears from sources that Paul Konerko will return to the White Sox next season.
No word yet on the terms, but it will almost certainly be a one-year deal. The White Sox signed Jose Abreu earlier this offseason, but Konerko has expressed a willingness to accept a reduced role to finish his career on a high note. Adam Dunn is the primary DH, so it could be tough for him to get regular at-bats in 2014. Konerko, who turns 38 in March, batted .244/.313/.355 with 12 home runs and 54 RBI over 126 games this past season.

Tue Nov 19 201319:41Paulie decision coming before Winter Meetings
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Tuesday that he expects Paul Konerko to make a decision on their offer prior to the Winter Meetings.
The White Sox have offered Konerko a chance to return in a backup role at a reduced salary, but Hahn indicated Tuesday that he's not sure the first baseman would accept such a role. "I don't think Paulie wants to play just to be on the bench or a farewell tour," Hahn said. "That's not him." If he doesn't take the White Sox' offer, the 38-year-old could seek a regular job elsewhere or simply retire.

Tue Nov 19 201310:24White Sox unsure whether Konerko will return
White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf told WSCR-AM 670 on Saturday that he isn't sure whether Paul Konerko plans to continue his playing career.
"I have no idea," said Reinsdorf. "It's truly Paul's option. He has earned the right to come back if he wants to come back. He's been the most popular player over the last 15 years that we've had. . He's basically a White Sox lifer. He's a terrific teammate. He's our captain and he just has to make a decision whether he wants to come back or not." If Konerko returns, he will have to accept a part-time role at a reduced salary. He turns 38 in March.

Tue Nov 12 201318:22Konerko has spot w/ White Sox if he wants it
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn indicated Tuesday that Paul Konerko has been offered a contract to return in 2014.
If he does come back, it would be in a reduced role likely at a pretty modest salary, as the White Sox have Daniel Abreu at first base and Adam Dunn at DH. Konerko could get a starting job elsewhere, but he'll need to weigh that versus playing for his preferred team. It's also possible that he could wind up retiring. "It's a matter of everyone's comfort level and him getting convinced that that's what he wants to do," Hahn said. "... We had a real good open and honest conversation about where his mind is at and his hopes for going forward, and a good talk about the club and our hopes for moving forward. At this time, he's still going through his process of deliberating about what he wants to do next year."

Tue Oct 29 201312:29White Sox could still bring back Paul Konerko
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Tuesday that he hasn't ruled out bringing back Paul Konerko.
The White Sox remained in touch with Konerko during the process of signing Abreu, so it's possible that he could still have a role with the club. The 37-year-old has already said that if he returns for 2014, it will be his final season in the big leagues.

Sun Sep 29 201309:31Paul Konerko will take a month to decide
Paul Konerko will take a month to decided whether he'll return for the 2014 season or retire.
If he does return, the 2014 campaign will be his last. Konerko indicated that he would be OK with a reserve role, but only if it was with the White Sox. ``The only thing I can say on that would be the only place I could do that would be here because my family likes it here, my kids love it here, it's a great place to be in the summer,'' Konerko said.

Tue Sep 24 201312:27Paul Konerko expected to address future soon
Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago was told by a source that Paul Konerko is expected to address his future "in some capacity" at some point during the team's final homestand this weekend.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported earlier this month that Konerko has been telling friends that he wants to return to the White Sox this year, but his comments to Levine on Monday cast at least some doubt on that scenario. "There are certain things I don't feel obligated to give out [or] tell people," said Konerko. "There are some things that are private, and some people take it the wrong way." The 37-year-old has battled injuries this season while hitting just .248 with 11 home runs and a career-low .674 OPS in 121 games.

Paul Konerko was scratched from Thursday's lineup after feeling lightheaded.
