Sat Oct 2 201016:30Valdes takes no-decision in spot-start
In his first major league start, Raul Valdes gave up one run over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Saturday afternoon.
Valdes limited the Nats to just three hits while walking four and striking out five. The only run scored on a solo homer by Mike Morse in the top of the sixth inning. The Cuban defector finishes the year with a 4.78 ERA and 51/23 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings. This was strictly a spot-start for the southpaw, so don't look for any fantasy value moving forward.
Tue Sep 28 201018:59Valdes likely to start Saturday
Mets manager Jerry Manuel indicated Tuesday that Raul Valdes will likely fill the open spot in the starting rotation Saturday.
"Valdes is probably the closest guy to being that guy," Manuel said eloquently. The Mets' skipper insisted that Oliver Perez is not properly stretched out for the assignment, ruling the erratic left-hander out as a possibility. Valdes has a 5.51 ERA over 35 relief appearances this season and should be avoided in all fantasy formats, even against the last-place (and likely Zimmerman-less) Nationals this weekend.
