Fri Feb 15 201314:11Casey Kotchman inks minors deal with Marlins
Marlins signed 1B Casey Kotchman to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The Marlins are moving Logan Morrison to first base this season, but he's recovering from knee surgery and might not be ready for Opening Day. Kotchman will offer protection at the position and then could stick around in a bench role when LoMo is healthy. The soon-to-be 30-year-old batted just .229/.280/.333 for the Indians last season.

Sat Jan 12 201316:26Boston showing interest in Kotchman, Overbay
According to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com, the Red Sox have shown interest in free agent first basemen Casey Kotchman and Lyle Overbay.
But Bradford notes that the Boston front office is not currently engaged in active discussions with either player. With the Mike Napoli deal still in jeopardy, the Red Sox are likely just seeking out a couple of cheap fallback options. Kotchman posted an abysmal .229/.280/.333 batting line for the Indians in 2012.

Thu Sep 20 201215:27Casey Kotchman wins game for Indians
Casey Kotchman's third hit of the day was an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to win Thursday's game against the Twins.
Kotchman also had a double in the contest, his first since Aug. 7. He has 12 doubles and 12 homers in 433 at-bats for the season, which isn't at all typical for him. In each of his previous five relatively full seasons, he had collected at least twice as many doubles as homers. In 2007, his best season, he had 37 doubles and 11 homers in 443 at-bats.

Sat Sep 1 201200:28Kotchman homers, plates two in losing effort
Casey Kotchman blasted a two-run homer in a losing effort against the Rangers on Friday.
The ninth-inning blast off Koji Uehara was his only hit in four trips to the plate. He has predictably come back to Earth after a dream 2011 season, hitting .235/.294/.356 with 12 homers and 47 RBI.

Wed Jul 25 201222:23Kotchman hits two-run bomb in loss
Casey Kotchman hit a two-run homer in Wednesday's loss to the Tigers.
Kotchman's third-inning blast was the extent of the Indians offense during Max Scherzer's seven innings of work for Detroit. The bomb was Kotchman's 10th of the year, and fourth of the month. Kotchman has upped his slash to .233/.294/.368 from .224/.280/.333 on July 1, but remains off the radar in all but the deepest of mixed leagues.

Sun Jul 8 201216:33Casey Kotchman has big day in loss
Casey Kotchman went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's loss to the Rays.
Kotchman singled home two runs in the second before taking James Shields deep for a solo shot in the fourth. Coming off a June where he hit just .229/.247/.349, Kotchman is now 10 for his first 24 in July (.416), and has driven in seven runs in eight games. He's still not a recommended option in mixed leagues, of course.

Tue May 8 201205:09Kotchman collects three RBI in 1-for-4 day
Casey Kotchman went 1-for-4 with three RBI in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the White Sox.
It's been a rough start for Kotchman, who is batting only .167 with two homers in 84 at-bats. Surprisingly, he has tied a career high with three steals. But that's not much of a silver lining.

Sun Apr 15 201218:25Kotchman homers for second straight day
Casey Kotchman went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base in Sunday's wipeout of the Royals.
Kotchman, who entered Sunday batting just .143/.200/.250, has now homered in back-to-back games, as well as stolen a base. Kotchman is extremely unlikely to repeat his .306/.378/.422 2011, but also shouldn't be in store for a flashback to his .217/.280/.336 2010 with the Mariners. He should split the difference on his way to solid AL-only league value.

Casey Kotchman (back) has been medically cleared by the Indians' training staff.
Kotchman hasn't played in the last seven games due to lower back stiffness. "I've taken BP (batting practice) the last two days," Kotchman said. "I'm not sure when I'm going to get back into games, but it's progressing favorably." Barring a setback, Kotchman is expected to play in Sunday's game against Kansas City.

Casey Kotchman (back) took dry swings and threw Wednesday.
Kotchman is out of the lineup for the fourth straight day due to back discomfort, but Indians' manager Manny Acta is optimistic the injury won't linger deep into the spring. The 29-year-old is projected to start at first base for the Indians this season, but he's unlikely to have much value in standard mixed leagues.

Sun Mar 11 201213:20Casey Kotchman scratched with stiff back
Casey Kotchman was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a stiff back.
Just your run-of-the-mill spring training back stiffness. Kotchman should be fine in a day or two. Matt LaPorta has taken his spot at first base.

Mon Feb 20 201221:57Indians view Casey Kotchman as first baseman
Indians manager Manny Acta indicated Monday that he views Casey Kotchman as the club's everyday first baseman.
The implication here is that Carlos Santana will likely see more time at DH when he's not behind the plate. Travis Hafner owns a lowly .240/.298/.382 batting line against left-handed pitching over the past three seasons, so that might not be such a bad thing.

Fri Feb 3 201208:31Casey Kotchman officially signs on
Indians signed 1B Casey Kotchman to a one-year, $3 million contract.
The deal, which was reported Thursday and now become official, also includes some incentives. Kotchman, 28, posted a .306/.378/.422 slash line with 10 home runs and 48 RBI in 563 plate appearances last season for the Rays and offers a defensive upgrade for their groundball-heavy pitching staff. Matt LaPorta will be pushed to a backup role.

Thu Feb 2 201216:25Kotchman headed to Indians on 1-yr, $3M deal
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that free agent first baseman Casey Kotchman is "headed to the Indians."
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer has confirmed that a one-year, $3 million agreement is in place. Kotchman, 28, posted a cool 306/.378/.422 slash line with 10 home runs and 48 RBI in 563 plate appearances last season for the Rays and ranks annually among the top defensive first basemen in the sport. He represents a nice upgrade for Cleveland over the slightly younger but far less productive Matt LaPorta. Carlos Santana will also see time at first base in 2012.

Sun Jan 29 201211:26Orioles considering Casey Kotchman
Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports that the Orioles "have discussed" free agent first baseman Casey Kotchman.
It's not clear if they plan on making an aggressive push for the veteran or if his name just came up when they talked about their options. Kotchman would settle in at first base, which would allow Chris Davis to slide into the DH spot and Wilson Betemit into a utility role. The soon-to-be 29-year-old batted .306/.378/.422 slash line with 10 home runs and 48 RBI in 563 plate appearances this past season for the Rays.

Fri Jan 13 201211:01Indians interested in Casey Kotchman
Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports that Casey Kotchman is "high on Cleveland's list" in their search for a first baseman.
The club's first choice appears to be Carlos Pena, but that's if general manager Chris Antonetti can convince ownership to raise payroll. Kotchman looks like a fallback plan, and they might be competing against the Rays, who are also interested in Pena and in re-signing Kotchman. The 28-year-old batted .306/.378/.422 slash line with 10 home runs and 48 RBI in 563 plate appearances this past season for Tampa Bay.
