INF Kelly Johnson, acquired by the Mets at midseason, is a free agent this winter. Johnson was a valuable bench weapon following his arrival July 24, and he could provide a low-cost, left-handed bat capable of playing anywhere in the infield as well as in the outfield corners.

Johnson went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Braves.

The veteran utilityman has had an excellent September, going 9-for-20 with two home runs. With Lucas Duda and Daniel Murphy each dealing with nagging injuries, Johnson may continue using his position flexibility to find his way in the lineup against right-handed pitchers.

Johnson roped his 13th home run of the season Monday against the Nationals.

The utility man now has 13 home runs between the Mets and Braves this season. Playing time down the stretch may be difficult for Johnson however, as Lucas Duda's return from the disabled list muddies the Mets' infield situation.

Johnson is starting at first base Friday with Lucas Duda (back), Daniel Murphy (quad) and Michael Cuddyer (wrist) out of the lineup.

Johnson could get the nod again Saturday, as all three players will be unavailable that day. He has played 22 games at the position this season and could be in line for a short-term spike of playing time while those three Mets are sidelined.

Johnson went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a homer and three RBI in Thursday's blowout win against the Rockies.

The Mets' infield shuffle continues. This time, they turned out the offense-oriented unit: Johnson started at second with Daniel Murphy at first, Wilmer Flores at short and Juan Uribe at third. The result: a 12-run day, including Johnson's biggest game since coming to the Mets prior to the trade deadline. He's still just 9-for-42 (.212) as a Met, but Johnson tends to hit out of RBI-friendly slots when he's in the lineup, so he makes for an intriguing play in daily leagues when the right conditions are in place.

Johnson will get the day off as Wilmer Flores returns to the lineup at second base. Michael Cuddyer will handle right field duties.

Johnson's versatility enables him to fill in all over the diamond. With Curtis Granderson serving as the DH due to his sore foot, Johnson picks up the start in right field against righty Chris Archer.

One day after being traded from Atlanta to the Big Apple, Johnson looked solid in his Broadway debut. His solo shot was his first home run since July 10 and his fourth of the month, and his two runs were a season-high.

Johnson and Juan Uribe are headed to the Mets for John Gant and Rob Whalen, Joel Sherman of the NY Post reports.

Johnson gives the Mets a Ben Zobrist-like player, who can play second base, third base and left field. He has a .275/.321/.451 slash line with nine home runs and 34 RBI in 182 at-bats this season for the Braves.

Johnson is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.

The 33-year-old Johnson is 13-for-37 (.351 average) with three homers so far in July, and he should continue to play regularly even upon Freddie Freeman's return, but he figures to continue sitting against opposing southpaws.

Johnson is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Johnson will get the night off at Fenway after starting five of the last six games. Jonny Gomes will take over in left field while Chris Johnson serves as the DH against Boston left-hander Wade Miley.

Johnson is not in the lineup against the Mets on Friday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Johnson was in the lineup Wednesday and Thursday after coming off the DL, but he'll get the day off Friday as Johnny Gomes takes over in left field against Mets starter Bartolo Colon.

Johnson (back) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Johnson had been rehabbing a strained oblique at Triple-A Gwinnett and had been on the DL since mid-May. The versatile Johnson figures to factor into the mix in the outfield and should see most of his time in left field, cutting into the playing time of Todd Cunningham and Johnny Gomes. In a corresponding move, the Braves optioned Joey Terdoslavich to Triple-A.

Johnson (back) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Wednesday, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.

Johnson began his rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Gwinnett. He has been on the disabled list since mid-May with an oblique strain, but it appears he is on track to return this week after a short stint at Triple-A.
