OF/1B Nick Swisher was officially signed to a minor-league contract and assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

OF/1B Nick Swisher has signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees and is expected to play for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starting on Thursday. He could give the Yankees some protection at first base behind 1B Mark Teixeira and OF/INF Dustin Ackley. The 35-year-old was released by the Atlanta Braves two weeks ago. "The idea is to see what he has left," Yankees manager Joe Girardi. "He was a good player here. He's had a couple of frustrating years that have been plagues with some injuries." Swisher played for the Yankees 2009-2012, signed with the Indians from 2013-2015 and wound up late last season with Atlanta.

1B/DH/OF Nick Swisher is expected to join the Yankees' Triple-A farm club, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, soon and begin a path he hopes will lead to a return to the majors. Swisher, 35, reportedly will have an opt-out clause that will let him leave the New York organization if he is not promoted by June 15. He was released by Atlanta in spring training but the Braves are responsible for the bulk of his $15 million contract. "For us he would be mostly an outfielder and first baseman," manager Joe Girardi said. "But we have to make sure he's right and gets going before we can talk about him joining us." Creaky knees the last couple of seasons have prevented Swisher from being a factor at the plate and limited his ability in the outfield.

Swisher, 35, was due to make $15 million this year, the most of any Braves player.Despite being released, the Braves are responsible to pay Swisher unless he is picked up by another team, which would reduce their portion of the $15 million.Swisher, who struggled last season with the Indians after having surgery on both knees, was hitting .238 in 17 games this spring. He did not hit any home runs and had only 4 RBIs.Injuries have slowed down the former All-Star. Since 2013, he has hit only .224 in nearly 1,300 at-bats.The Braves did receive $15 million from the Indians when they took on the contracts of Michael Bourn and Swisher in exchange for Chris Johnson, according to reports.

Swisher (forearm) is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Swisher was a late scratch Saturday with a forearm strain and he'll miss the first game of Atlanta's final day of the regular season. With him under contract for 2016, there's little reason to expect him to start in Game 2.

Swisher has started each of the last three games, going just 1-for-11 in that span. He'll get the day off Friday, as Michael Bourn will draw the start in left field and bat eighth.

Swisher is starting at first base in Wednesday's contest against the Mets.

Swisher will replace Freddie Freeman, who will get the night off to rest and recover, and hit third in the lineup against Mets' starter Bartolo Colon.

Swisher is out of Sunday's lineup against the Phillies.

Swisher will now sit for the third straight game Sunday, indicating he may no longer be a lock as an everyday left fielder. Adonis Garcia will replace him Sunday, batting cleanup for the Braves.

Swisher is out of the lineup Saturday against the Indians.

Swisher will sit for the second straight game as the Braves deploy Michael Bourn in left field against right-hander Jerad Eickhoff. Though Swisher is only hitting .227 in September, he's provided a .386 on-base percentage during the month, which should be good enough to keep him ahead of Bourn and Adonis Garcia on the depth chart.

Swisher is not in the lineup Friday against the Phillies.

After starting the past three games, Swisher will get the day off Friday. Adonis Garcia will draw the start in left field in his place and bat fourth.

Swisher is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

This will snap a streak of eight straight starts in left field for Swisher, who is probably just receiving rest. Adonis Garcia will receive a rare outfield start in his place.

Swisher went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Saturday's 8-2 loss to the Nationals.

Swisher has started off September hot, going 5-for-13 (.385) with a double and two RBI in the month's first five games. He also has posted two multi-hit performances in that span. It remains to be seen whether the veteran first baseman will give way to younger players more often in the remaining weeks of the season.

Swisher went 3-for-4 with two RBI Sunday at the Cubs.

Swisher had a pair of two-out RBI singles, though they were of little use in a game in which the Braves were blown out. After collecting only three hits in his first 24 and bats with his new team, his bat finally came alive this weekend, as he went 6-for-9 with a double and a two homers.

Swisher got the start in left field Saturday and went 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run home runs.

He hasn't yet worked his way into a regular role with the Braves, but with three home runs in his last three starts Swisher is making a strong case for more playing time.

Swisher is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Joey Terdoslavich will step in at first base to face right-hander James Shields, against whom Swisher is just 9-for-52 (.173 average) in his career. Swisher's window to start regularly for Atlanta figures to close Wednesday when Freddie Freeman (oblique) returns from the DL.

Swisher is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.

Swisher was able to connect on his first home run as a member of the Braves in Saturday's contest, but it was only his second hit in 18 at-bats with his new team. Though he'll receive a day off Sunday, Swisher still figures to see the bulk of the starts at first base until Freddie Freeman (oblique) returns from the DL during the upcoming week. Expect Swisher to transition to a reserve role in the corner outfield after that.

Swisher went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBI in his first game with the Braves on Saturday.

Swisher was acquired by the struggling Braves for his offensive contributions, and he put them on display by driving in two runs while hitting fifth in his team debut. He will have to play the field in Atlanta after playing exclusively as a DH for the Indians, and will probably be eased back into the lineup coming off a knee-related DL stint, but the 34-year-old can still field well enough to contribute at first base or occasionally in the outfield. The Braves don't have the most potent of lineups, so Swisher will continue to bat near the heart of the order when he plays.

Swisher (knee) has been activated from the disabled list and will bat fifth as the Braves first baseman Saturday.

Atlanta wasted no time activating Swisher from the disabled list just one day after acquiring him and Michael Bourn from Cleveland. Swisher will make his Braves debut at first base and he'll bat fifth against Marlins right-hander Tom Koehler. Knee inflammation has sidelined Swisher since Jun. 12, but he was struggling at the dish before then with a .198/.261/.297 slash line over 101 at-bats.
