Sat Sep 11 202118:14Matthew Boyd Set To Visit Orthopedic Surgeon
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd (left elbow strain) will see Dallas orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister. "He'll get further evaluations and opinions and see what's next," said manager A.J. Hinch. Boyd missed more than two months this summer due to left arm discomfort before returning in late August. He made two outings before landing on the injured list again. Through 15 starts, the southpaw is 3-8 with a 3.89 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and .255 OBA. This latest injury could bring an end to Boyd's season. You can safely drop him from your fantasy roster.

Fri Sep 10 202118:45Matthew Boyd Reportedly Headed To Injured List
The Detroit Tigers will reportedly place left-handed starter Matthew Boyd (elbow) on the injured list. According to a tweet from The Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold, Boyd "has reoccurring elbow soreness." The left-hander was scratched his Friday start against the Tampa Bay Rays. It's certainly not ideal news for the Tigers or fantasy managers. In 78.2 innings this season, Boyd has pitched to a 3.89 ERA, a 4.09 FIP, 67 strikeouts, and 23 walks. Tyler Alexander is starting in Boyd's place against the Rays and seems like the most likely candidate to step into the rotation moving forward.

Wed Sep 8 202118:02Matthew Boyd Will Start On Friday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd will take the mound on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Boyd has been one of Detroit's best starters this season, pitching to a 3.89 ERA, a 4.10 FIP, 67 strikeouts, and 23 walks in 78.2 innings spanning 15 starts. However, in two starts since returning from the injured list, Boyd has surrendered nine hits, seven earned runs, four home runs, and three walks in eight innings. He also struck out 11 in that span, but the recent struggles make it hard to trust the left-hander in a tough matchup against the Rays. Tampa Bay has scored the most runs in baseball. The team also ranks in the top five in wRC+ and home runs. If you have better rotation options on Friday, it might be smart to leave Boyd on the bench.

Mon Aug 30 202107:03Matthew Boyd Tagged With Loss In His Return
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd made his return to the mound in Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He went on to pitch four innings and allow four hits, two walks and two earned runs while striking out five. He was tagged with the loss, dropping his record to 3-7 on the year. The veteran battled through some long at-bats that made his pitch count go up quickly, preventing him from going deeper into the game. Boyd was sidelined for over two months due to elbow discomfort. Sunday's outing was his 14th start of the year and he now has a 3.50 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP on the season. He'll make his next start on Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds.

Wed Aug 25 202113:00Matthew Boyd Set To Return On Sunday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd (elbow) is "penciled in" to start Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. Boyd has been sidelined since mid-June due to elbow discomfort. He'll be welcomed back against one of the league's top offenses in the Blue Jays, making him a risky start for any fantasy format. Boyd got off to a strong start to the 2021 season. He posted a 2.27 ERA over six starts in April, but then went on to struggle to the tune of a 5.32 ERA in May. He's worth monitoring for fantasy purposes, but isn't a must-add player in any format at this point.

Fri Aug 13 202120:13Matthew Boyd Completes Rehab Start
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd (arm, neck) threw two scoreless innings in his first rehab start since being placed on the injured list back on June 15. Boyd was having a bounce-back year after a horrendous 2020, posting a 3.44 ERA, 18.8 K%, 6.4 BB%, and six home runs in 70.2 innings. There is still no word on when Boyd will be back, but it's a step in the right direction. It's okay to stash Boyd on the IL if there's room, but there's no harm in dropping him for a more exciting player.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ke’Bryan Hayes hastily missed first base and was called out after hitting a first-inning homer, sending Walker Buehler on his way to seven scoreless innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 Tuesday night. The Pirates star rookie stung an opposite-field line drive in the first inning against Buehler that narrowly cleared the right-field wall, just inside the foul pole. Running hard and with his eyes on the ball, Hayes missed touching first base with his left foot by two or three inches and kept on going. Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts challenged, and umpires overturned the call after a short video review. Buehler (5-0) retired his last 13 batters and had two hits to raise his career batting average to .124. He allowed two hits, struck out two and walked one while throwing 93 pitches. Pirates rookie JT Brubaker (4-5) shut out the Dodgers through four innings but did not make it out of the fifth, when Los Angeles scored three times. Kenley Jansen... [More]

Tue Jun 8 202123:56Eric Haase homers in 1st and helps Tigers beat Mariners 5-3
DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Tigers rookie catcher Eric Haase has seemingly come out of nowhere, hitting six home runs already this month. Matthew Boyd, though, insisted he saw it coming after pitching to Haase during the offseason. Haase extended his power surgery by hitting a hit a two-run homer in the first inning to help Detroit beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3 Tuesday night. “I think everyone around our team knew what Eric could do," Boyd said. “Once he got the opportunity, he made the most of it. He’s a great catcher and he can really hit the ball." Boyd (3-6) allowed an unearned run, six hits and a walk over six innings. Daniel Norris inherited the bases loaded with no outs in the eighth and limited Seattle to two runs. Jose Cisnero pitched the ninth, striking out two and walking one for his second save in three chances. Marco Gonzales (1-4) gave up four runs and five hits over four innings in his second start since coming back from a strained left forearm. “Marco was not quite as sharp as... [More]
