"Scottie's really important to us and we wouldn't want to do a premature DL if he's only going to need four or five days," Scioscia said. "But you might have to consider some things."

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said the team won't know for another week or so how long Scott Downs (shoulder) will be sidelined.
He'll be re-evaluated at that time after being placed on the disabled list earlier this week with a strained shoulder. Downs expressed hope when the move was made that he would only miss the minimum time, but clearly an extended absence is possible.

Scott Downs pitched a flawless ninth against the Royals on Monday to pick up his ninth save.
Erneso Frieri has recovered well from his first bad outing for the Angels, but Downs is still getting more work in close games lately. This was actually the first save for either since the All-Star break. Downs blew a save and took a loss on July 13. He had given up runs in two of his three appearances in the second half.

Scott Downs notched his seventh save of the season Monday with two perfect innings in a win over the Indians.
Downs bailed Jered Weaver out of a jam in the eighth with a double-play ball and a pop out, and manager Mike Scioscia left him in for the ninth with a switch-hitter and a pair of left-handed batters due up. Downs has been simply phenomenal this season, giving up just one earned run over 30 games. He'll continue to share save chance with Ernesto Frieri.
