SS Luis Sardinas hadn't done much with his bat since being recalled from Triple-A earlier in the week, but he had a big hit Saturday night. Sardinas hit a solo home run that tied the score 5-5 in the sixth.

SS Luis Sardinas was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma before Wednesday's game and went 2-for-4. Sardinas could get an extended look while SS Ketel Marte is on the disabled list.

Sardinas hit .154 over 12 games with Seattle, with his latest appearance coming as a pinch runner in Saturday's 9-7 loss to the Angels. During his major league career, he has appeared defensively at second base, shortstop and third base.Sardinas was acquired by Milwaukee from Texas in the Yovani Gallardo trade on Jan. 19. In parts of two major league seasons with Texas and Milwaukee, he has hit .231 with 12 RBIs in 79 games.

Sardinas will get his first career start at third base Wednesday.

An injury to Elian Herrera paved the way for Sardinas to make his first start at third base in the majors. The 22-year-old prospect has mainly been used as a role player since his call up Sept. 7, however the Brewers are high Sardinas and hope that he contend with Jean Segura for the starting shortstop job in the coming years.

Sardinas was recalled by the Brewers on Monday.

Sardinas has bounced around from the majors and minors over the last two seasons as he's split his time between Milwaukee and Triple-A Colorado Springs this year. His previous outings with the Brewers in 2015 resulted in a lowly batting average of .221 and a dismal slugging percentage of .243 after 71 appearances at the plate.

Sardinas was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Sardinas is being sent down to make room for pitcher Taylor Jungmann, who will start Tuesday's game against the Pirates. Sardinas was having a decent year for Triple-A Colorado Springs, but he owns a .221/.243/.250 slash line through 71 plate appearances with the Brewers.

Sardinas is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins.

Sardinas appeared to be locked in to a regular role at second base with the Brewers, but that's now cast in some doubt with Hernan Perez starting three of the past four games at the keystone. The 22-year-old is slashing a weak .227/.239/.258 over 68 plate appearances, so it's possible that manager Craig Counsell is just turning to Perez in an effort to extract a little more offensive production from the position.

Sardinas is out of the lineup Friday.

New addition Hernan Perez will get the start at second Friday as Sardinas will start the game on the bench. The slick-fielding Venezuelan does not have the offensive numbers to warrant ownership in most formats.

Sardinas is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Sardinas has shifted over to second base following the return of Jean Segura from the disabled list, but he'll receive a day off Wednesday in favor of the newly-acquired Hernan Perez. It seems likely he'll continue as the club's everyday second baseman, but he may receive more days off than the average if he can't start hitting consistently.

Sardinas, starting at second base for the second time in three days, went 2-for-8 with a run scored in Sunday's victory over the Diamondbacks.

Sardinas saw regular playing time at shortstop for a couple weeks while Jean Segura was sidelined, and he showed enough to earn himself playing time at second base after Segura returned to action Friday. The Brewers' plans at second base moving forward aren't entirely certain -- Hector Gomez, Elian Herrera, and Scooter Gennett all remain options to play there -- but it appears Sardinas will at least be part of the mix for the time being.

Manager Craig Counsell indicated after Tuesday's game that Sardinas will remain with the Brewers when Jean Segura (finger) is activated from the disabled list, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

It won't be certain that Sardinas stays with the big club until an official roster move is made later this week, but Counsell said Tuesday that the Brewers will send down a reliever when Segura returns. Sardinas would keep his roster spot in such a scenario, he will still be handing back the starting shortstop duties to Segura when the latter is back on the active roster.

Sardinas will bat leadoff Sunday against the Braves.

The move for Sardinas is only temporary, as manager Craig Counsell will drop regular leadoff man Carlos Gomez to the three-spot with Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez getting the day off. The 22-year-old Sardinas is off to a sound start to the season, hitting safely in all but one of his eight games played since being recalled.

Sardinas has done nothing but impress since joining the big club, going 6-for-14 (.429) with four runs scored and just two strikeouts. It appears the Brewers are willing to give him regular playing time at shortstop for the time being, but that will change when Jean Segura (finger) returns to action, likely at some point in the next week or two.

Sardinas is in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets.

Sardinas has made good contact all season, owning a .320 batting average in 24 games during the current campaign. He has yet to homer, but he has struck out at a lower rate than he did a year ago, and is already half way to last season's total of 10 stolen bases in 81 minor league games. He is not on the verge of a call-up at this time, but could see action at the big league level at some point this season.
