Fri Jun 26 201517:09Roach named Cubs' starter for Saturday's game against Cardinals
Roach has been named the Cubs' starter for Saturday's game against the Cardinals, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
This was supposed to be Tsuyoshi Wada's turn in the rotation but he was scratched with a shoulder issue. A 25-year-old righty, Roach has a 2.29 ERA and just 33 strikeouts in 82.2 innings at Triple-A this season, so even if he gives the Cubs a quality start, the strikeout totals will likely be well below average. The hope is that one skipped start will give Wada the time he needs to get right, so this may just be a spot start for Roach.

Roach was reassigned to minor league camp Monday, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.

Roach was claimed off waivers by the Cubs earlier in the offseason. In 16 games with the Padres last season, he posted a 4.75 ERA and 1.68 WHIP with 17 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. He will likely end up in the minors if he goes unclaimed through waivers.

Roach was claimed off waivers by the Cubs, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
Roach saw his first major league action in 2014, appearing in 16 games with the Padres. He put up a 4.75 ERA, and was only able to record two more strikeouts than walks. He'll likely start next season in the minors, but could work his way back up eventually.
Mon Nov 3 201420:26Roach designated for assignment Monday
Roach was designated for assignment Monday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
With four players coming off of the 60-day DL on Monday, the Padres were forced to make a flurry of roster moves, one of which resulted in Roach being DFA'd. The 24-year-old struggled mightily at Triple-A El Paso, allowing opposing batters to hit .314 against him. In 16 major league appearances last season, Roach conceded 16 earned runs over 30.1 innings.

Sun May 18 201420:03Roach picks up no-decision on Sunday vs. COL
Donn Roach allowed four runs in three innings, picking up the no-decision in Sunday's loss to the Padres.
As Roach was spot starting, manager Bud Black took him out after throwing 46 pitches. Overall, he allowed four hits and two walks without recording a strikeout in his first major league start. Despite contributing out of the Padres' bullpen, Roach has plenty of minor league experience as a starter. It remains to be seen if he'll be the Padres' go-to option again with Andrew Cashner on the disabled list.

Sat May 17 201418:07Donn Roach to start for Padres on Sunday
Donn Roach will make a spot start for the Padres on Sunday afternoon against the Rockies.
Roach has been pitching out of the San Diego bullpen all year and so he'll be limited to a pitch count of 60 in his first-ever major league start on Sunday in Colorado. The 24-year-old right-hander is not a good fantasy streamer against the Rockies. He is filling in for Andrew Cashner, who was placed on the disabled list Saturday with soreness in his throwing elbow.

The 22-year-old right-hander has logged time as both a starter and reliever, but he had an impressive 2.16 ERA and 29/3 K/BB ratio in 41 2/3 innings over his first five starts with High-A Inland Empire this season. He's expected to report to High-A Lake Elsinore.
