Brad Hand, who started the first game of Friday's doubleheader, was sent down in a corresponding roster move. Reed, 26, has a 3.88 ERA and 53/20 K/BB ratio over 53 1/3 innings this season between Double-A Jacksonville and Triple-A New Orleans. He'll provide a fresh arm for the bullpen. | ||||||

Marlins purchased the contract of RHP Evan Reed from Double-A Jacksonville. | ||||||
The Marlins acquired Reed from the Rangers earlier this year for infielder Jorge Cantu and added him to the 40-man roster in order to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft. He had a 1.69 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 42 2/3 innings in 2010 between three different minor league clubs. | ||||||

Reed, 24, has managed a 1.62 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP in 39 innings of relief this season at Double-A Frisco. Some of the baseball world's best prospect analysts have ranked him rather low on the Rangers' impressive list of youngsters, but he should make for a fine middle reliever eventually. | ||||||
