Sat Jul 24 201021:19Velez struck in head, leaves game vs. AZ
Eugenio Velez was struck in the head by an Ian Kennedy pitch on Saturday and had to be lifted from the ball game.
It looked bad. Velez laid on the ground for over a minute and the Chase Field crowd was dead silent. He almost certainly suffered a concussion and will need at least two weeks on the disabled list for recovery.

Mon Jul 19 201018:42Giants call up Velez from Triple-A
Giants recalled INF-OF Eugenio Velez from Triple-A Fresno.
The Giants were expected to add a position player before Monday's game against the Dodgers, so Velez ultimately gets the call over Emmanuel Burriss, likely due to his versatility. Velez is batting .196 (9-for-46) with two home runs and eight RBI with the big club this season.
Wed May 19 201018:59Giants option Velez to Triple-A Fresno
Giants optioned INF-OF Eugenio Velez to Triple-A Fresno.
Velez was brought up from Triple-A Fresno just two days ago when Mark DeRosa was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Now he's back in the minors due to Freddy Sanchez's triumphant return from knee surgery.
Mon May 17 201019:43Giants bring back Velez from Triple-A
Giants recalled INF-OF Eugenio Velez from Triple-A Fresno.
He'll take Mark DeRosa's spot on the 25-man roster. Velez, who was just shipped out to Fresno ten days ago, returns to a .186/.271/.372 batting line over 43 at-bats.
Fri May 7 201016:09Giants demote OF Velez to Triple-A
Giants optioned outfielder Eugenio Velez to Triple-A Fresno.
Unfortunately for Velez, the Giants have lost all faith in the 27-year-old as an infield option. But that's only because he proved to be a horrible infielder. Since he's a switch-hitter with great speed, Velez still figures to have a career as a reserve. The Giants, though, never needed both he and Andres Torres on the roster.
Sat Apr 17 201019:39Valez, Rowand's sub, has big day vs. Dodgers
Eugenio Velez went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double and an RBI as the Giants defeated the Dodgers 9-0 on Saturday.
Velez, filling in for Aaron Rowand, now owns a cool .412/.474/.882 slash line through 17 at-bats. He's a must add in NL-only leagues right now, as a long Rowand absence could give him serious value.
