Mujica (hand) will make one more rehab appearance before returning to the A's, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
Mujica felt good after making a rehab appearance at High-A Stockton on Monday, and he'll make one more appearance before being activated from the disabled list. It's unclear when, exactly, that will be, but it seems likely Mujica could be back with the A's before the end of the week.

Mujica (hand) will follow up his bullpen Thursday with another bullpen session Saturday, followed by a potential rehab assignment Monday with High-A Stocton, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Assuming Mujica's bullpen session Thursday goes off without a hitch, it sounds like just one more will be required before he heads out on a rehab and potentially rejoins the bullpen thereafter. If all goes well, a mid-to-late June return seems plausible, when he'll likely take a role in middle or late relief situations.
Wed Jun 10 201519:27Mujica (hand) will throw bullpen session Thursday
Mujica (hand) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
If Mujica makes it through his first official bullpen session successfully, the Athletics will send him on a rehab assignment as early as this weekend. He was initially not scheduled to throw off a mound until the weekend, so it appears this timeline is a bit ahead of schedule. A late-June return to the Oakland bullpen seems to be the most plausible scenario at this point.
Tue Jun 9 201519:37Mujica could begin throwing off mound by this weekend
Mujica could begin throwing off a mound by this weekend, Joe Stiglich of CSN Bay Area reports.
Mujica has started throwing on flat ground after getting stitches removed from his thumb last week. Once Mujica progresses to bullpen sessions and live batting practices, a return to the A's bullpen should be on the horizon.

Mujica will have the stitches in his fractured hand removed within the next few days, Joe Stiglich of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Mujica isn't expected to resume throwing for another week after the stitches come out, which will prevent him from returning from the DL immediately when eligible June 6. However, it doesn't sound like his recovery timeline will be delayed enough to necessitate a rehab assignment. Mujica will probably only need to toss a couple bullpen sessions and live batting practice before receiving clearance to return to the bullpen.
Fri May 22 201512:12Mujica (hand) officially placed on 15-day DL Friday
Mujica (hand) was officially placed on the 15-day DL Friday.
It was announced Thursday that the move was forthcoming and now it is official. He required stitches in his thumb after suffering a fracture on a comebacker Thursday and will be out at least until mid-June.

MUjica (hand) suffered a fractured thumb Thursday and will be placed on the disabled list, John Hickey of the Oakland Tribune reports.
Mujica required stitches in his thumb in addition to suffering a fracture after taking a comebacker off his hand during Thursday's loss to Tampa Bay. The move to the DL is yet to be made official, but the losing Mujica thins out an Oakland bullpen that is already missing Sean Doolittle.

Mujica left Thursday's game after taking a comebacker off his pitching hand, John Hickey of the Oakland Tribune reports.
Mujica made it through .2 innings before a Bobby Wilson comebacker struck him in the pitching hand. He was tended to by team trainers and left the field with his hand wrapped in a towel. There's no word yet on whether Mujica will be available to pitch Friday.
Mon May 11 201516:29Mujica called up to Athletics on Monday
Mujica was called up to the Athletics on Monday.
After being traded from the Red Sox for a player to be named later, Mujica should get his first chance to pitch for the A's against his former team during this series. As the setup man in Boston, he held a 4.61 ERA in 13.2 innings with only one clean appearance to his name in 11 appearances.

Mujica won't join the Athletics until they begin their homestand Monday against the Red Sox, John Hickey of the Oakland Tribune reports.
Mujica, who was acquired Saturday, figures to make his A's debut at some point during the series against his former team. He served as one of Koji Uehara's primary setup men in Boston, but he may be relegated to lower-leverage duty initially during his time with Oakland.

Mujica was sent to the A's on Saturday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The Red Sox had decided Mujica was expendable enough to designate him for assignment earlier this week, so this does not come as a surprise. The A's seem like a logical organization to give Mujica a shot, however he will likely be no closer to notching saves in Oakland than he was in Boston, as Tyler Clippard and Sean Doolittle (when healthy) stand ahead of him on the organizational depth chart. When he joins the team, Oakland will make a 25-man roster move to make him eligible. They moved Jarrod Parker (elbow) to the 60-day DL to make room for Mujica on the 40-man roster.
Thu May 7 201510:05Mujica designated for assignment Thursday
Mujica was designated for assignment Thursday, the Boston Globe's Alex Speier reports.
He has a 4.61 ERA in 11 games and is giving up a .294/.345/.490 slash line to opposing hitters. The obvious fantasy case for Mujica was that he could be in line for saves if something happened to Koji Uehara, but that now seems very unlikely. Look for Matt Barnes to be called up from Triple-A Pawtucket as a corresponding move, and Barnes should slot into Mujica's role in the bullpen.

Mujica has allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over 3.1 innings in his last three appearances.
Mujica has not been good to start the 2015 season, blowing a save in early April as the fill-in closer while Koji Uehara (hamstring) was on the disabled list and now this recent run of futility. His ERA stands at 6.30 and he's allowed three homers in 10 innings. At this point, there's no word as to whether he'll remain the fill-in closer or keep his role as a setup option. Even if Mujica remains the fall-back option when Uehara isn't available, manager John Farrell recently told the Providence Journal that he will not hesitate to use Uehara on consecutive days. That will eat into Mujica's save opportunities.
Wed Apr 15 201507:13Mujica picked up win in Tuesday's night victory over Washington
Mujica picked up the win in Tuesday's night victory over Washington. He pitched a clean seventh inning, striking out two.
Mujica is back in the role the Red Sox designed for him -- working the high-leverage seventh and eighth innings -- now that closer Koji Uehara is healthy and on the roster. Mujica was coming off two consecutive appearances in which he allowed homers.

Mujica allowed a solo homer, the second one allowed this season, in Sunday night's loss to the Yankees.
Koji Uehara (hamstring), who is expected to be activated for Monday's home opener, can't get back to Boston soon enough. Mujica has not looked like a viable fill-in closing option the first week of the season. He's permitted two runs on four hits in three appearances.

Mujica served up a solo home run to Chase Headley in the ninth inning to blow a save and turn the game against the Yankees into a 19 inning marathon. He pitched one inning, giving up just the one hit while striking out one.
The Red Sox announced that their normal closer Koji Uehara is heading out to Low-A Greenville on a rehab assignment Saturday so Mujica may not be long for the closer's role. He should soon return to his set-up role, but give the usage of pitchers during Friday's game, the bullpen could be short on Saturday.

Mujica cleaned up Thursday night's 6-2 win over the Phillies, allowing one hit and striking out one in a non-save appearance.
With news that Koji Uehara (hamstring) is scheduled to pitch at Low-A Greenville on Saturday, it would appear Mujica's days as the fill-in closer are coming to end very soon.
Sun Mar 29 201518:18Mujica expected to begin season as Red Sox's closer
Mujica is expected to begin the season as the Red Sox's closer, WEEI 93.7 FM reports.
Mujica was the likely candidate for saves behind Koji Uehara, and with the news that Uehara is unlikely for the beginning of the season, he has been named the tentative closer. Uehara probably won't miss much to start the season, however, so Mujica's value as a closer is limited.

With Koji Uehara admitting he may not be recovered from his hamstring injury until Opening Day, the notion that Mujica is Boston's closer early in the regular season emerges as a possibility.
Uehara said "it might be a close call but should be ready" when Boston kicks off the season in Philadelphia. If not, that means Mujica will be the temporary closer.
Mon Mar 2 201507:03Mujica entered training camp 15 pounds lighter
Mujica entered training camp 15 pounds lighter, something that has quickened his arm speed, according to manager John Farrell, the Boston Herald reports. "Whether or not [the increased arm speed] translates to velocity, we'll see," said Farrell.
Mujica is entering the final year of his contract at a time when set-up guys are getting multi-year deals. He's coming off a dichotomous season in which a poor first half gave way to an effective second half that included six-of-six in save opportunities. As Farrell manages Koji Uehara's workload, Mujica is in line for a handful of saves over the course of the 2015 season. And possibly more, if Uehara experiences any arm problems.
