Pirates purchased the contract of SS Pedro Ciriaco from Triple-A Indianapolis.
A defensive specialist, Ciriaco was hitting a dismal .143 through his first 49 at-bats for Indianapolis this season. More than likely, he'll be sent back down in short order so the Bucs can add Brandon Wood, who was claimed off waivers from the Angels on Friday, to their 25-man roster.

Tue Sep 7 201008:30Pirates recall SS Pedro Ciriaco from AAA
Pirates recalled SS Pedro Ciriaco from Triple-A Indianapolis.
The 24-year-old Ciriaco was batting a paltry .282/.289/.368 in 117 at-bats for Triple-A Indy. He does have a bit of speed potential, but not enough to be fantasy-relevant this year or in years to come.
Sat Jul 31 201013:27Bucs acquire shortstop Ciriaco from D'Backs
Pirates acquired shortstop Pedro Ciriaco from the Diamondbacks in Saturday's five-player trade.
Arizona picked up D.J. Carrasco, Ryan Church and Bobby Crosby in the deal and dumped Chris Snyder on Pittsburgh. Ciriaco will begin with Triple-A Indianapolis, but he'll no doubt be promoted no later than early September. He's a decent shortstop prospect who hit .259 with six homers, 51 RBI and 14 steals at Triple-A Reno this season. Ciriaco has a shot to compete for the starting shortstop gig in 2011.
Sat Jul 31 201011:55Pirates to get Ciriaco as part of Snyder deal
The Pirates are expected to land shortstop prospect Pedro Ciriaco as part of the Chris Snyder deal.
Arizona is getting D.J. Carrasco, Ryan Church and Bobby Crosby in the deal. Ciriaco is a pretty decent prospect and could possibly slide in as the starting shortstop right away, though the Pirates' recall of Argenis Diaz from Triple-A suggests they might send him to Triple-A first. Ciriaco is batting .259 with six homers, 51 RBI and 14 steals at Triple-A Reno.
