Thu Jan 15 201517:27Corporan agreed to one-year
Corporan agreed to a one-year, $975,000 contract with the Astros to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
Corporan already faced a questionable path to playing time in 2015, before the Astros acquired Evan Gattis in a trade. While Gattis will presumably spend most of his time in the outfield, the added backstop depth further hurts Corporan's cause. The Astros also have Jason Castro and Hank Conger, making Corporan a candidate to be traded before the season.

Corporan has been experiencing swelling and bruising on his right thumb for the past two months, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports.
Corporan first suffered the injury while attempting to block a ball with his bare hand in mid-June. He's been able to play through the ailment due to the fact that he's only asked to catch two or three times a week, but it sounds like he'll continue to receive treatment on the thumb over the rest of the season.

The three-run shot off Rangers reliever Justin Germano was icing on the cake on a night the Astros dominated their division rivals. The homer was Corporan's fourth this season in 44 at-bats. Unfortunately he hasn't hit much else -- he's hitting just .159/.191/.432 on the year.

Mon Apr 7 201418:15Carlos Corporan homers in loss Monday
Carlos Corporan belted a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Angels.
It was one of just four hits the Astros mustered for the day and the only run they could come up with. Corporan has shown a little pop for a backup catching, as he hit seven homers in 210 plate appearances last season. Still, he doesn't play enough to have fantasy value even in the deepest of leagues.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Carlos Corporan (concussion) could return to the field later this week.
Corporan took a foul ball of his facemask on Aug. 19 and has been sidelined since. Fellow backup catcher Max Stassi sustained his own concussion a few days later and is also the on the 7-day disabled list. "Corporan is further along than Stassi, and hopefully we'll get Corporan into game situations later this week, either it's with an affiliate or in Houston," Luhnow said. "We're feeling optimistic he'll be back in competition later this week. Stassi has one more hurdle left and until he clears that milestone we're in a holding pattern." Starter Jason Castro suffered a knee injury Monday, leaving Cody Clark and recently-acquired Matt Pagnozzi as the club's only healthy backstops.

Fri Jul 12 201321:55Corporan two-run single supports Cosart gem
Chris Corporan delivered a two-run single in the first inning on Friday, leading the Astros to a 2-1 victory over the Rays.
Two runs would prove to be more than enough support for Jarred Cosart who was outstanding on the evening. Corporan finished the night 1-for-4. He's done a very nice job in a part-time role for the Astros this season, hitting .282/.350/.450 with five homers and 13 RBI in 110 at-bats.

Wed May 15 201317:20Carlos Corporan homers, doubles in win
Carlos Corporan homered and doubled Wednesday in the Astros' 7-5 defeat of the Tigers.
The Astros got to Max Scherzer to avoid the sweep in Detroit. Corporan has three homers, all of which have come since April 29. As desperate as the Astros are for offense, they may start having Corporan and Jason Castro play together more frequently, with one serving as the DH. That makes Corporan worth using in two-catcher AL-only leagues.

Mon Apr 29 201322:58Carlos Corporan collects four RBI in victory
Carlos Corporan went 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBI in the Astros' 9-1 rout of the Yankees on Monday.
The Yankees were coming off a four-game sweep of the Jays, while the Astros were the victims of a four-game sweep in Boston. So, of course this one was a blowout in Houston's favor. Corporan, the backup catcher to Jason Castro, entered with one RBI in seven games this season. His previous career high for RBI was three, accomplished on Sept. 10, 2011 against the Nationals.

Thu Mar 21 201322:44Carlos Corporan homers twice vs. Tigers
Carlos Corporan went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers in the Astros' 7-2 win over the Tigers on Thursday.
It was no easy assignment, as Corporan took Justin Verlander and Al Alburquerque deep. He has his average up to .370 in 27 at-bats for the spring. However, the Astros' starting catcher, Jason Castro, has been even hotter, suggesting that Corporan isn't going to be earning himself any more playing time with his performance.

Astros optioned catcher Carlos Corporan to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Corporan did a nice job filling in with Jason Castro on the shelf, posting an OPS near .800 in limited duty. The 28-year-old backstop should be back when rosters expand in September.

Carlos Corporan went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI, helping to lead the Astros to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Brewers on Friday.
Corporan got the Astros on the board with an RBI single in the fifth inning, then pulled them to within 3-2 with a solo shot off Francisco Rodriguez in the eighth, setting the stage for a dramatic walkoff victory. Corporan has done a tremendous job in limited at-bats, hitting .298 with three homers and nine RBI in 47 at-bats, and could be worth a look as a second catcher in deeper mixed leagues if he starts to earn more playing time.
