Fri Mar 21 201422:10Jeter fine after fouling ball off foot Friday
Derek Jeter said that he's fine after fouling a pair of balls off his foot during Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates.
Jeter iced his foot after the game, but doesn't expect it to be an issue moving forward. He shouldn't have a problem taking his place at shortstop in the Yankees Opening Day lineup.

Sun Mar 16 201400:10Derek Jeter fans twice in loss to Marlins
Derek Jeter went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts as the Yankees were no-hit by the Marlins in Grapefruit League action on Saturday.
Not quite the offensive effort the Yankees were hoping for as they celebrated Mariano Rivera's career in Panama. Jeter is now hitting .148 (4-for-27) on the spring season.

Thu Mar 13 201417:40Derek Jeter now batting .167
Derek Jeter is 4-for-24 this spring after going 0-for-4 against the Orioles on Thursday.
Jeter had back-to-back two-hit games on March 6-7. Since then, he's 0-for-10 in three games. It's not something the Yankees will worry about as long as Jeter continues to look like he's moving well.

Thu Mar 6 201417:51Derek Jeter collects first two hits
Derek Jeter picked up his first two hits of the spring Thursday versus the Phillies.
Jeter grounded out in his first at-bat to fall to 0-for-10 for the spring, but he picked up a groundball single and then a gap double in his next two plate appearances today. He ran well on both hits, too.

Mon Mar 3 201415:48Derek Jeter goes hitless against Nationals
Derek Jeter went 0-for-3 and committed an error Monday in his third appearance of the spring.
Jeter grounded into his second double play and is 0-for-7 so far this spring. The error came on a pretty tough hop, so that wasn't a big deal. He still seems to be moving pretty well at shortstop and on his groundouts, so the Yankees won't be concerned about the slow start.

Thu Feb 27 201416:20Derek Jeter goes hitless in debut
Derek Jeter went 0-for-2 and played five innings of shortstop in his spring debut Thursday.
Jeter ran well on both of his grounders, the first of which was turned into a double play. He got a standing ovation as he came out for his first at-bat, but the crowd was surprisingly thin at Legends Field for the beginning of the farewell tour.

Sun Feb 23 201417:55Jeter likely to make spring debut Thursday
Derek Jeter (ankle) is likely to make his spring training debut on Thursday when the Yankees take on the Pirates.
Yankees skipper Joe Girardi indicated that the team would like to see Jeter run the bases at least once more before he begins game action. Coming off a disappointing and injury-plagued season, the future Hall-of-Famer actually appears to be severely undervalued in early fantasy drafts.

Fri Feb 7 201408:57David Phelps: Derek Jeter 'looks amazing'
Yankees teammate David Phelps has watched some of Derek Jeter's (ankle) workouts at the club's spring training facility and says the shortstop "looks amazing."
Jeter has already been in Tampa for a couple weeks, hitting in the batting cage and fielding grounders. "You can tell he's determined to go out there and do well," Phelps said. "If you had to place a bet on it, you know he's going to go out there and have a good year. I'm really looking forward to seeing him play again. He's having a lot of fun right now." You certainly wouldn't expect Phelps to say anything bad about his teammate, but it's an encouraging first-hand account. Jeter, of course, was limited to just 17 games last season due to ankle issues.

Mon Jan 20 201413:36Derek Jeter (ankle) does first field workout
Derek Jeter (ankle) has begun on-field work.
Jeter hit in the batting cage and took over 100 grounders at shortstop Monday at the Yankees' spring training complex in Tampa, Florida. "I don't think about it, and that's a good thing," he said of his left ankle. Jeter is expected to be a full participant at Yankees camp and should open the 2014 campaign with a clean bill of health, but he's a poor fantasy bet in what will be his age 40 season.

Sat Nov 16 201322:17Derek Jeter could be open to reduced role
Former Yankees manager Joe Torre believes that Derek Jeter would be open to taking a reduced role if it was in the best interest of the team.
Torre made sure to clarify that it was simply his gut feeling, and that he had not spoken to Jeter on the subject, but it's his opinion that if Jeter wasn't playing up to his usual standards that he'd be willing to consider a limited role. The 39-year-old is currently rehabbing a fractured ankle and variety of other ailments that limited him to just 17 games in 2013.

Thu Nov 14 201319:13Derek Jeter encouraged by early workouts
Chad Jennings of LoHud.com reports that Derek Jeter (ankle) "sounds encouraged" by his early offseason workouts and fully expects to play shortstop in 2014.
You can bet that the Yankees will give him plenty of days in the DH spot next year, especially if Alex Rodriguez's suspension holds up. However, it's certainly good news that his left ankle has held up well to workouts so far. Jeter, of course, was limited to just 17 games in 2013 and was shut down late in the year due to nagging soreness in his surgically-repaired ankle.

Thu Nov 14 201312:20MLB owners approve replay challenge system
Major League Baseball owners have approved a replay challenge system for the 2014 season.
Managers will get two challenges that can be used at any point in the game. If a play is challenged and overturned, the manager gets to keep that challenge. It'd make much more sense to put a separate umpire in a replay booth and have him review every play, but the owners have settled on a manager challenge system and are expected to get the approval of the players and umps. Expect some complications in 2014.

Fri Nov 8 201308:55Derek Jeter begins offseason workouts
Derek Jeter has begun offseason workouts, but the Yankees don't expect to know until January the condition of his left ankle.
Jeter was limited to 17 games this season and shut down late in the year due to nagging soreness in his surgically-repaired ankle. The Yanks plan to use him at shortstop next season but will also consider signing a backup plan. "We're hoping that he'll be back to where he was in 2012 before the injury took place," manager Joe Girardi said Thursday. "We'll go through the offseason and allow him to do the things that he needs to do and then keep our fingers crossed in spring training that it's all good."

Fri Nov 1 201313:22Derek Jeter re-signs with Yanks for one year
Yankees re-signed SS Derek Jeter to a one-year, $12 million contract.
Jeter could have opted for free agency if he did not accept a $9.5 million club option, but the Yankees bumped his salary up to $12 million just to make sure he'd stick around. In reality, he wasn't going to go anywhere, regardless. The shortstop was limited to just 17 games this season, as his recovering from ankle surgery went slowly and he then had multiple setbacks. However, he'll have a normal offseason and the Yanks expect him to bounce back in 2014.

Thu Oct 17 201313:08Yankees expect Jeter to bounce back in '14
The Yankees expect Derek Jeter to bounce back in 2014 because he'll have a normal offseason routine.
Jeter spent last winter rehabbing his fractured left ankle and appeared in only 17 games for the Yankees in 2013. "I expect him to play, and I think he'll do everything in his power to get back to the form he was in 2012," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told MLB.com. "He's got an offseason that he has a lot of strength that he wants to gain back in his legs and have a normal offseason. It should be good for him."

Sat Sep 14 201310:08Yankees transfer Derek Jeter to 60-day DL
Yankees transferred SS Derek Jeter to the 60-day disabled list.
This is merely a procedural move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the activation of David Phelps on Saturday. Jeter appeared in just 17 games for the Bombers this season, hitting .190/.288/.254 with a homer and seven RBI.

Wed Sep 11 201316:19Derek Jeter (ankle) shut down for rest of '13
Derek Jeter (ankle) is done for the season.
The Yankees made that announcement on Wednesday afternoon, with Jeter still battling soreness in his surgically-repaired left ankle. The veteran shortstop appeared in only 17 games this year for New York. Brendan Ryan will get the majority of starts at short down the stretch.

Wed Sep 11 201309:35Girardi: Jeter is in a "holding pattern"
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said on Tuesday that Derek Jeter (ankle) is in a "holding pattern."
A CT scan came back negative after Jeter aggravated his surgically-repaired left ankle on Saturday. GM Brian Cashman has ruled out shutting down Jeter for the remainder of the season. "We don't think that," Cashman said. "It's nothing like that. If it becomes that I'll tell you, but otherwise, we're more in a day-to-day mode," Cashman said. "The bottom line is his mobility was definitely becoming more limited with the pain he was receiving so we backed off, and when he's feeling better, we'll turn him loose again. If he was moving around and he was pain-free, he'd be back out there."

Sun Sep 8 201311:38Yankees won't shut Derek Jeter (ankle) down
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that there has been no consideration given to shutting Derek Jeter (ankle) down.
Jeter aggravated his surgically-repaired left ankle Saturday, but a CT scan came back negative and the Yankees are hoping he'll be OK in a few days. Given the nagging injury and Jeter's .190/.288/.254 batting line this season, it's safe to jump ship in fantasy leagues.
