Capuano signed with the Yankees on Monday.
This is a bit of a unique situation, as the Yankees DFA'd Capuano over the weekend, and he subsequently elected free agency. Just two days later, he'll return to the club, taking the spot of C.C. Sabathia, who was placed on the DL on Monday with inflammation in his knee. In 17 appearances for the Yankees on the season, Capuano holds a 6.55 ERA and 1.73 WHIP across 33 innings.

Capuano has cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to Triple-A, LoHud's Chad Jennings reports.
Jennings speculates that the Yankees might bring Capuano right back up to the big-league roster following the face injury Bryan Mitchell suffered Monday, as they have need for a long man right now. However, they'd need to make space for him on the 40-man roster to do so.

Capuano was called up Wednesday to work out of the bullpen in middle relief, but did not see an appearance in any games since then. He'll be replaced by 27-year-old rookie Caleb Cotham, who figures to fill the same low-leverage role.

Capuano was outrighted to Triple-A on Friday, but has chosen to remain with the club rather then elect free agency. The decision comes as little surprise, as the left-hander would have forfeited a sizable sum of his guaranteed contract had he chosen to become a free agent.

Capuano couldn't make it out of the first inning Tuesday against the Rangers. He allowed five runs on three hits and five walks, recorded just two outs, and escaped with a no decision thanks to the Yankees' 21-run outburst.
Capuano threw just 18 strikes and 24 balls. He allowed just one extra-base hit, but his deserted control doomed him from the start. Capuano has been crushed all year (1.5 HR/9, .361 BABIP) and now has a 6.97 ERA. The end of the line might be near for the 36-year-old.
Mon Jul 27 201523:34Chris Capuano: Starting Tuesday
Capuano will draw the start Tuesday in Texas, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports.
The veteran lefty's been pitching out of the bullpen lately, and not effectively -- in his most recent appearance, he gave up four runs (including two homers) in an inning of work. As it's unlikely he's capable of pitching deep into a game right now, Capuano represents a highly risky, low-upside fantasy option Tuesday.

Capuano struck out one, as he tossed a scoreless inning in Thursday's win over the Orioles.
Capuano has pitched better in his most recent opportunities, running a streak now to four straight scoreless outings dating back to June. With a now fully healthy bullpen though, the lefty has been used more and more infrequently and likely won't find himself in many high-leverage situations going forward.

Capuano pitched a scoreless inning in relief in Friday's loss to the Orioles.
Capuano has actually experienced a big improvement since transitioning to the bullpen, allowing just one run in 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. The lefty still doesn't present much in the way of fantasy value though, as he appears to not be ready for higher-leverage situations and likely won't move back to the rotation anytime soon.

Capuano (0-3) gave up four runs (three earned), six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in Friday's loss to Oakland.
The results have not been good at all in any of Capuano's three starts with the Yankees this year, and it's highly questionable how long they'll be willing to keep him in the rotation. For now, the Yankees' dearth of options means the veteran will probably draw another start Wednesday against Seattle.

Capuano took the loss on Sunday as he gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits over 4.1 innings against the Texas Rangers.
The lefty gave up an RBI double and a two-run home run that accounted for all of the scoring against him on the day, but was hit hard throughout and was removed in the fifth inning despite throwing 64 percent of his pitches for strikes. Capuano is now 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA through two starts and will need to start turning in better appearances if he wants to keep a spot in the rotation. His next start will come against the Athletics on Friday.
