Maxwell entered Wednesday's spring training game against the Rockies as a pinch-hitter, going 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Maxwell, a non-roster invitee, has been playing well for the Giants this spring, slashing .277/.333/.447 through 47 at-bats. With Hunter Pence expected to start the year on the disabled list, Maxwell is one of many options the Giants are considering to fill his void in right field. He offers the closest combination of power and speed to Hunter Pence of all of the replacement options, but his 32.1 K% is a glaring flaw. Maxwell would need to put together a strong push down the stretch to earn a spot on the 25-man roster.
Fri Dec 5 201415:21Maxwell signed minor league contract with Giants
Maxwell signed a minor league contract with the Giants, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Maxwell appeared in 199 games at the major league level from 2012-13 but made just 20 appearances with the Royals last season, and instead spent the majority of the year at Triple-A Omaha. A .224/.311/.417 career hitter at the highest level, he seems unlikely to work into a regular role at any point in 2015, but Maxwell at least provides the Giants with quality organizational depth.
Sat Oct 4 201414:05Maxwell has elected free agency
Maxwell has elected free agency, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Maxwell, who turns 31 next month, appeared in just 20 games with the major league team this season, going 6-for-40 with one extra-base hit in 45 plate appearances. He did hit .285/.352/.464 in 56 games with Triple-A Omaha, but his speed is all but gone, so a minor league deal with a spring training invite seems like a best-case scenario.

Sat Jun 21 201410:37Royals call up Justin Maxwell from Triple-A
Royals purchased the contract of OF Justin Maxwell from Triple-A Omaha.
He'll replace the injured Nori Aoki on the active roster. Maxwell was removed from the 40-man roster back in May after he hit just .138/.219/.172 over his first 32 plate appearances this season. He could get some at-bats against left-handers with Aoki sidelined.

Fri May 16 201415:26Justin Maxwell designated for assignment
Royals designated OF Justin Maxwell for assignment.
Maxwell was hitting just .138/.219/.172 with no homers over his first 32 plate appearances this season. He's certainly a flawed player, but he has pop and can play all three outfield spots, so someone will give him a shot.

Fri Mar 14 201422:48Justin Maxwell has three hits against A's
Justin Maxwell had a big day at the dish as the Royals and Athletics played to a 9-9 tie on Friday, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Maxwell plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and tacked on an RBI single in the eighth. He's off to a terrific start to the Cactus League season, hitting .400 (14-for-35) with a homer and six RBI. He isn't likely to be an asset of any kind in batting average, but his blend of power and speed, and ability to mash against southpaws, has value in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Tue Mar 11 201419:33Maxwell has a 3-hit day against the Dodgers
Justin Maxwell went 3-for-5 with two RBI against the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Maxwell singled three times, including a two-run single in the eighth. He also stole a base, capping a productive day for the outfielder. Maxwell would serve the Royals well in a platoon role, but the team seems set on carrying him as a back-up outfielder.

Thu Feb 27 201418:19Maxwell finishes 2-for-3 with a homer
Justin Maxwell went 2-for-3 with a home run as the Royals fell to the Rangers 11-7 on Thursday.
Maxwell's two-run blast in the seventh helped the Royals get back in the game, but it ultimately wasn't enough. Hoping to make the team as a platoon outfielder, Maxwell served the Royals well after coming over from the Astros in July last season.

Fri Jan 17 201421:32Justin Maxwell seeks $1.7 M in arbitration
Justin Maxwell requested $1.7 million and was offered $1.075 million from the Royals when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.
The 30-year-old outfielder will earn a nice raise over the $492,500 that he earned in 2013. An intriguing blend of power and speed, Maxwell may be forced into a platoon role where he will continue to mash against left-handed pitching in 2014.

Thu Dec 12 201311:44Royals/Dodgers talking Maxwell-for-Gordon
Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune hears that the Royals are talking to the Dodgers about a Justin Maxwell-for-Dee Gordon swap.
The Royals are in the market for a second baseman, so Gordon could make some sense at the position if they feel that Omar Infante will be too expensive in free agency. While the Dodgers already have plenty of outfielders, Maxwell is a capable bat against southpaws.

Sun Sep 22 201317:31Maxwell delivers walkoff slam for Royals
Justin Maxwell hit a grand slam off Joakim Soria in the bottom of the 10th inning Sunday to give the Royals a 4-0 win over the Rangers.
The long homer clinched the AL West for the A's and bailed out Ned West after a couple of shaky decisions in the inning (pinch-running for Billy Butler, even though he was a trail runner, and sending up George Kottaras to pinch-hit for Lorenzo Cain). It was Maxwell's fifth homer in 76 at-bats for the Royals after he hit two in 137 at-bats for the Astros.

Sat Aug 10 201300:11Justin Maxwell has three hits, homer in win
Justin Maxwell went 3-for-5 including a solo homer, leading the Royals to a 9-6 victory over the Red Sox on Friday evening.
Maxwell scored two runs and drove home a pair in the game. He's been on a tear since being acquired by the Royals, hitting .471 (8-for-17) with three homers and six RBI through his first seven game. He's always possessed a tantalizing combination of power and speed, and should be owned and started in all mixed leagues until his contact issues catch up to him and he cools off again.

Sat Aug 3 201317:39Maxwell powers Royals past Mets in extras
Justin Maxwell launched a go-ahead pinch-hit homer off David Aardsma to lead the Royals to a 4-3 win over the Mets in 12 innings on Saturday.
It was his first home run since being acquired from the Astros earlier this week. Maxwell figures to get most of his playing time against left-handed pitching with Kansas City, so his fantasy impact will likely be minimal.

Thu Aug 1 201316:14Maxwell has RBI single in Royals' debut
Making his Royals' debut, Justin Maxwell finished 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a walk Thursday against the Twins.
Maxwell, who was acquired from the Astros on Wednesday, made the start in right field with left-hander Scott Diamond on the mound for the Twins. It appears that he'll be used on the short side of a platoon with David Lough. While that could prove to be a nifty move for the Royals, it probably won't amount to much fantasy value.
