According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Diamondbacks have signed Henry Blanco to a one-year, $1.2 million contract.
Blanco declined his half of a $1.15 million mutual option for 2012 this week, so he'll get a modest raise to stay with Arizona. The 40-year-old backstop batted .250/.330/.540 with eight homers, 12 RBI and an .870 OPS over 112 plate appearances this season while throwing out 46 percent (11-for-24) of would-be basestealers. He'll serve as Miguel Montero's backup again in 2012.

According to Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Arizona, the D'Backs are discussing a new deal with Henry Blanco.
Blanco declined his half of a $1.15 million mutual option for 2012 on Wednesday afternoon. The 40-year-old backup catcher will be looking for a bit more money after batting .250/.330/.540 this season with eight homers and 12 RBI in 112 plate appearances. Magruder expects an agreement to be reached along with an option for 2013.

The backup catcher scored two of the D'Backs' six runs. Blanco is batting .245 but has managed seven longballs playing behind starter Miguel Montero this season.

Henry Blanco continued his longshot bid for Player of the Month honors, launching two more home runs in Monday's losing effort against the Padres.
Blanco finished 2-for-3 on the night, and is now 6-for-13 with four dingers in his last four games. The 39-year-old has always exhibited power potential but has never been given enough playing time to put up decent numbers. However, don't expect this streak to propel him into a starting job.

The deal was agreed to earlier this week. Blanco, 39, batted .215/.271/.300 with two home runs and eight RBI over 130 at-bats for the Mets in 2010 and will serve as a back up to Miguel Montero down in the desert next season. He'll probably get 20-30 starts if Montero is healthy all year.

According to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, the Diamondbacks are finalizing a contract with Henry Blanco.
The two sides have been talking for a while, so it appears there are only some final details to work out. According to Gilbert, the contract is believed to be worth around $1 million and may contain a mutual option for 2012. Blanco, 39, batted just .215/.271/.300 with two home runs and eight RBI over 130 at-bats with the Mets this past season, but has a solid reputation behind the plate and in the clubhouse. He'll be Miguel Montero's primary backup in the desert.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic said Thursday that a deal between Blanco and the D'Backs is "very close." That may be so, but it sounds like terms have not yet been agreed to. The 39-year-old Blanco batted just .215/.271/.300 over 130 at-bats in 2010, but he's a strong defensive catcher and should do well as Miguel Montero's backup in the desert.

The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports that the D-backs have Henry Blanco at or near the top of their list in their pursuit of a backup catcher.
Blanco has just a .227/.291/.363 batting line over 13 major league seasons, but he's considered a good defensive catcher as well as a great clubhouse guy. He also has a connection with new GM Kevin Towers, having played with the Padres in 2009.
