Young's signing became official Friday after he passed his physical, MASN Sports reports.

Another outfield signing could be pending as the Orioles continue to court Colby Rasmus, but as of now Young is set to be a heavy contributor in 2015. In 2014, Young was .312/.357/.452 against left-handers, but he dipped to .282/.299/.424 against right-handers.

Young will take his physical next Wednesday before making his new deal with the Orioles official, MASN Sports reports.

Young's role remains to be determined as the Orioles continue to look for outfield help. At worst, he should platoon to hit left-handers as he did in 2014 when he slashed .302/.337/.442. At best, Young could fill a full time role in left field.

Young had a decent season offensively in 2014, batting .302/.337/.442 with seven home runs and 30 RBI. He doesn't appear to be an everyday player anymore, but will likely see time both at designated hitter and in left field for the Orioles in 2015.

Young will sit Wednesday for the third straight game in a row, with Nelson Cruz serving as the designated hitter and David Lough as the left fielder. Young is hitting .321 over 28 at-bats in September. The Orioles have already clinched their playoff spot, so the team may just be resting a few of their starters at this point.

Instead, Young will receive a routine day off, with David Lough joining the starting lineup in his stead. Because of Young's excellent offensive production this season, he still likely represents a better alternative than those other players, but if he were to start slumping, his at-bats could dry up quickly.

Steve Clevenger will serve as the designated hitter in the series finale against Tampa Bay, as Young sits after three straight starts. It makes sense, given Young's 2-for-10 career mark against Thursday's starter Jeremy Hellickson, but Young figures to continue seeing at least semi-regular playing time.

Young went 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, one run scored, one double and one walk Monday against the Rays.

Young has seen more playing time in August, but it hasn't resulted in increased production as he has seen his batting average decrease from .328 to .311. He has not hit over .300 since 2006 as a member of the Rays, so he may be starting to come back down to earth.

The lack of an available DH spot for the Orioles' three-game series at Wrigley Field will keep him out of the lineup yet again. Look for him to see more regular at-bats when the Orioles resume American League play Monday against the Rays.

The Blue Jays are trotting out a right-hander in Drew Hutchison, which is generally cause for Young to hit the pine, even after notching hits in back-to-back games. In his place, Nelson Cruz will handle DH duties, while David Lough mans left field.

Young was the cleanup hitter Tuesday when he went 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI against the Blue Jays.

Young entered the game with good career numbers against Blue Jays starter Mark Buehrle. In addition, the Orioles dropped the slumping Chris Davis to seventh in the order. This could mean that when Young is in the lineup he will hit fourth or fifth, depending on where Nelson Cruz is slotted. On another note, Young had just one walk since May 27 and he now has a total of six walks on the season. While he will probably never develop plate discipline, Young clearly seems to have control of the plate against Buehrle.

Young is out of the lineup Monday at Washington, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.

Prior to the absence, Young started four games in a row, two apiece in left field and at designated hitter. However, he only mustered one hit and one run in 11 at-bats, bringing down his season line to .315/.342/.455. With no DH in a National League park Monday, he'll likely be confined to a pinch appearance, if his services are required.

Young went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Sunday's win over the Mariners. He was starting for the fourth consecutive game.

The O's have gotten better-than-expected mileage out of Young this season. Even with Sunday's poor game, he's hitting .315/.342/.455 on the season.
