Tue Aug 11 201518:09Montero out of lineup Tuesday
Montero is out of the lineup Tuesday, the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish reports.
Montero has played his way into a semi-regular role with the Mariners, as he is slashing .295/.340/.523 since being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma. However, on Tuesday he takes a seat as Logan Morrison starts at first and Mark Trumbo gets the nod at DH.

Montero (head) is back in the lineup Monday, hitting sixth and starting at first base against the Rockies, according to Greg Johns of MLB.com.
After a collision Saturday, he was held out of the lineup Sunday for precautionary reasons, but he seems to be good-to-go as he's back in the starting lineup Monday. In eight games for the Mariners this season, he's 7-for-18 with three extra-base hits. He replaces Mark Trumbo in the starting lineup at first base.
Sun Aug 2 201513:17Updating previous report
Updating a previous report, Montero is out of the lineup Sunday for precautionary reasons following a collision in Saturday's contest, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Montero has a history of concussions, so it's no surprise to see the Mariners take a conservative approach. With Logan Morrison (thumb) sitting again Sunday, Mark Trumbo will get the start at first base. Consider Montero day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener in Colorado.
Sun Aug 2 201511:17Montero out of lineup Sunday against Twins
Montero is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins.
Montero has started back-to-back contests at first base, and even hit his first homer of the season in Friday's game. He'll rest Sunday afternoon, however, giving way to Mark Trumbo at first base.

Montero smacked a double and his first homer of the season in Friday's win over the Twins.
Called up from Triple-A Tacoma prior to the game, Montero was immediately inserted into the lineup at first base with Logan Morrison (thumb) nursing an injury. Montero is generally expected to occupy the larger half of a timeshare with Morrison at the position, but manager Lloyd McClendon wouldn't rule out the idea of giving the converted catcher regular at-bats. "My hope is to play [Montero] as much as possible," McClendon told reporters Friday. "We need to find out about him and see what he's got." Friday's performance probably earned Montero another entry into the lineup Saturday, and if he continues to excel, look for McClendon to stand by his comment and give the 25-year-old more opportunities.
Fri Jul 31 201515:32The Mariners recalled Montero from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday
The Mariners recalled Montero from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
Montero will take the roster spot of Dustin Ackley, who was traded to the Yankees on Thursday. Montero won't see regular playing time right away, but he should see some action at both the first base and designated hitter spots.
Sun Jul 19 201516:18Montero optioned to Triple-A Tacoma
Montero has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
Montero was given 10 at-bats during his most recent stint in the majors, but even a multi-hit game Sunday against the Yankees was not enough for him to stay around. This won't be the last we see of the 25-year-old Montero, however, as an .899 OPS at Tacoma likely means he'll be back up sooner or later.

Montero will start at first base and bat seventh Friday against Hector Santiago and the Angels, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
The 25-year-old was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday with the expectation being that he would play at DH against left-handed pitching, but manager Lloyd McClendon will give him a look at first base Friday to gauge for himself Montero's progress at the position. Montero has posted an .899 OPS and 15 homers with Tacoma this season, with a .362/.417/.655 batting line against left-handed pitching.
Thu Jul 9 201519:15Jesus Montero: Recalled From Triple-A
Montero was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
A corresponding move was not immediately announced, but Montero has joined the team in Seattle and is primed to take on a short-end platoon role at DH, seeing starts against left-handed pitching. Montero has gone 16-for-31 with Tacoma to begin July, raising his batting line with the affiliate to .332/.370/.529 for the season and bringing his home run total to 15.

Montero is batting .304 at Triple-A Tacoma with 10 multi-hit games, five doubles and three homers.
If the struggling Mariners don't turn things around soon, it won't be surprising if Montero gets called up. Nelson Cruz, who's proven his middling defense is not a liability, could shift to outfield while Montero plays DH. Dustin Ackley, who is hitting .182, would lose his outfield spot.
Sat Mar 21 201513:50Montero
Montero, as expected, was optioned to Triple-A on Friday, the Seattle Times reports.
Montero's focus this spring was more on just saving his career rather than making the Seattle roster. He started well by showing up to camp 40 pounds lighter, but he still needs to fix his swing -- "There's a big loop in his swing," manager Lloyd McClendon said -- and become competent at first base. No longer a catcher, Montero doesn't really have a spot for callup even if he tears up Triple-A. His best chance is an injury to first baseman Logan Morrison.
Fri Mar 20 201514:07Montero
Montero, who has three hits in 15 at-bats this spring with six strikeouts, is working on changing his swing, the Seattle Times reports. "There's a big loop in his swing," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "He's going to have to make some changes and we're going to address them. It doesn't happen overnight. ... But these are changes he's going to have to make."
McClendon said he wants Montero to pull the ball less and get back to driving the ball to right-center as he did in 2012 when he had 15 homers and 20 doubles. Montero will begin the year at Triple-A Tacoma. An injury to Logan Morrison is probably the only way he gets a callup. Even if he crushes the ball at Triple-A, the Mariners don't have a spot for him, now that he is no longer a catcher.
Fri Feb 20 201511:09Montero lost 40 pounds this offseason
Montero lost 40 pounds this offseason, the Seattle Times reports.
Montero angered the Mariners last season when he showed up to spring training 40 pounds overweight. He's nearing the end of his rope with the organization. "He has a lot to prove," general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "And there aren't a lot of expectations there right now." Montero will play first base this year, likely starting the season at Triple-A. If Logan Morrison gets injured, Montero perhaps could be called up -- assuming he's at least competent at first base.
Sat Feb 7 201514:24Montero has already pushed weight down to 235 pounds
Montero has already pushed his weight down to 235 pounds, the target that the Mariners set for him to begin spring training, the Seattle Times reports.
The former top prospect been a disappointment since being acquired by the Mariners from the Yankees in the Michael Pineda deal a few seasons back. He'll compete for a roster spot during spring training, and could make for an ideal platoon partner with Logan Morrison at first base if the Mariners can find the flexibility for a player with significant defensive limitations on their 25-man roster. Most likely, he'll have to prove that his physical and mental transformation this offseason is sustainable by hitting at a steady clip against Triple-A pitching to begin the year.

Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said that Montero is doing well with his offseason training in Arizona, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Zduriencik said that he wants Montero to focus on first base this spring, a role that is currently assigned to Logan Morrison. The right-handed hitting Montero could work his way into the smaller side of a platoon with Morrison, if he's able to make enough progress defensively to avoid being a liability in the field. Montero hit .286/.350/.489 with 16 homers and 74 RBI in 97 games at Triple-A Tacoma in 2014.
Mon Sep 29 201419:09Montero activated from suspended list and added to 40-man roster
Montero has been activated from the suspended list and added to the 40-man roster, the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.
Montero was suspended for the rest of the season after a bizarre incident with a team scout in late-August. He'll return to the 40-man roster heading into the offseason, and the Mariners cleard space on the 40-man by designating veteran Corey Hart for assignment.
Mon Sep 1 201414:21Montero suspended for remainder of 2014 season
Montero has been suspended for the remainder of the 2014 season, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
During a recent rehab outing with short-season Everett, Montero was acting as first-base coach when the catcher and a Mariners scout had a disagreement in which the details are currently in question. One thing that is known is Montero confronting and spitting on the scout, resulting in the former's suspension. The 24-year-old reported to spring training this year 40 pounds overweight, which may have been the impetus for the confrontation.
Sat Aug 30 201400:23Montero will not play any more baseball this season
Montero will not play any more baseball this season, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
During a recent game at Everett while on rehab, Montero received an ice cream sandwich from a member of the Mariners' scouting department. Montero had to be restrained by his team's pitching coach in between innings, as he took a bat and attempted to confront the member of the organization in the stands. The bizarre incident ended Montero's 2014 campaign with a .286/.350/.489 line, 16 homers and 74 RBI, but it will also prevent him from joining the big club when rosters expand Monday.
