Tue Feb 12 201308:48Stolmy Pimentel dealing with visa problems
Stolmy Pimentel hasn't reported to Pirates' camp due to visa problems in his native Dominican Republic.
Pimentel was the only Pirates' pitcher or catcher who didn't report on time, which isn't the best way to make a first impression with his new club. The 23-year-old right-hander was acquired from the Red Sox in December as part of the Joel Hanrahan deal.

Pirates acquired RHP Stolmy Pimentel from the Red Sox in the Joel Hanrahan deal.
Pimentel, who turns 23 in February, owns a 4.37 ERA over six seasons in the minors. Once regarded as one of organization's top prospects, his star has faded over the past two seasons. He had a 4.59 ERA and 86/42 K/BB ratio over 115 2/3 innings with Double-A Portland in 2012. The Pirates will hope for a rebound.

Red Sox optioned RHP Stolmy Pimentel to Double-A Portland.
Pimentel was added to the 40-man roster over the offseason in order to be protected from the Rule 5 draft, but he's not close to major league-ready. He posted a 9.12 ERA in 15 starts last season in his first taste of Double-A, but the Sox still like his arm and he just turned 22 last month.

Red Sox pitching prospect Stolmy Pimentel suffered a strained lat on Tuesday afternoon in spring camp.
Pimentel could be down for a couple of weeks. The 22-year-old right-hander had an ugly 2011, registering a 6.79 ERA in 102 innings between the Double-A and Single-A levels. And he's now off to a poor start in 2012.

Mon Jul 11 201111:38Pimentel demoted to Single-A Salem
Red Sox pitching prospect Stolmy Pimentel has been demoted to Single-A Salem.
He had a 9.12 ERA at Double-A Portland, prompting the change. Pimentel had a 4.06 ERA in 26 starts at Single-A Salem last season and was aggressively promoted a level this season. "It's been frustrating for everybody, mostly for him, but for us as well because he's working his ass off and it's not translating at this point out on the mound," Red Sox farm director Mike Hazen said. "We knew, when we sent him (to Portland) as a young kid, once of the younger pitchers in the league -- as we saw with Kelly last year -- that they take their lumps. He's taking his fair share of lumps. We feel like, long-term, it's going to make him a better pitcher for having gone through these struggles and trying to figure out, 'How do I get better?'"

Red Sox reassigned RHP Stolmy Pimentel to minor league camp.
He's the most highly regarded among the seven cuts the Sox made Saturday, but Pimentel hasn't pitched above A-ball and had no shot of making the team. Also among the cuts were C Ryan Lavarnway and RHPs Alex Wilson, Kyle Weiland and Tony Pena Jr.
