Wed Apr 2 201410:17Whisenhunt pushed hard for Whitehurt
Titans CEO Tommy Smith said new coach Ken Whisenhunt "pushed hard" for Charlie Whitehurst.
Smith admitted there were "several discussions" within the organization about the backup quarterback spot. In the end, Whisenhunt won out as the Titans made the questionable move of dumping Ryan Fitzpatrick. Although Whitehurst is an expert in Whiz's system, we've seen nothing on tape to suggest he'll be able to move the ball if/when Jake Locker misses time.

Thu Mar 13 201417:14Titans sign Charlie Whitehurst
Titans signed QB Charlie Whitehurst to a two-year contract with a max value of $8 million.
Whitehurst, 32 in August, spent last season with new Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt in San Diego. The journeyman could have an outside chance at pushing Jake Locker for playing time, and expedite Ryan Fitzpatrick's release. Whitehurst holds a career 54.2 completion rate and 3:4 TD-to-INT ratio across four NFL starts. He's failed to impress every single time we've seen him.

Free agent QB Charlie Whitehurst is visiting the Titans Thursday.
Whitehurst spent last season in San Diego with new Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt. He'd be a downgrade on Ryan Fitzpatrick, which is a concern with Jake Locker coming off Lisfranc surgery and historically injury prone.

Fri Aug 9 201322:46Whitehurst could lose job to Brad Sorensen
Coach Mike McCoy left the door open for Charlie Whitehurst to lose his backup QB job to seventh-round QB Brad Sorensen.
"We're giving everyone an opportunity to compete," said McCoy after watching the tape of San Diego's preseason opener. Sorensen completed 7-of-10 throws for 84 yards and a touchdown against the Seahawks, while Whitehurst was terrifically bad, going 7-of-15 for 59 yards and a pair of interceptions. The new Chargers regime has no ties to Whitehurst, a holdover from ex-GM A.J. Smith.

Tue Aug 7 201211:15Charlie Whitehurst resumes practicing
Chargers QB Charlie Whitehurst (strained MCL) has resumed participating in individual drills, but will be inactive for Thursday's preseason opener.
It shouldn't be long before Philip Rivers' backup is back in team drills. As long as Whitehurst is healthy by the third preseason game, Kevin O'Connell won't be a threat to his job.

Fri Jul 27 201213:56Charlie Whitehurst to miss 'a couple weeks'
Chargers QB Charlie Whitehurst is expected to miss "a couple weeks" after injuring his left knee in Thursday's training camp practice.
Coach Norv Turner's timetable does confirm Whitehurst doesn't have a ligament tear. With only Philip Rivers and UDFA Jarrett Lee left healthy at quarterback, the Chargers are going to sign another one. Free agent Billy Volek has reportedly balked so far because he's not on board with being a "camp arm."

Fri Jul 27 201209:40Whitehurst injury has Chargers on the phone
Charlie Whitehurst sustained a left knee injury Thursday, leading the Chargers to put feelers out for possible replacements at quarterback.
There's no sign that Whitehurst's injury is serious, but the Chargers were concerned enough to get on the phone. The Union-Tribune suggests Billy Volek as a logical candidate. Volek spent the past five seasons as a backup to Philip Rivers.

Fri Mar 16 201219:56Chargers bring back QB Whitehurst
Chargers signed QB Charlie Whitehurst to a two-year contract.
Whitehurst has gone from Chargers third-stringer to Seahawks future starter back to Chargers third-stringer in the span of just over two years. Owner of a career 54.2 completion percentage on 155 pass attempts, Whitehurst simply isn't accurate or aggressive enough to be more than a low-end backup. On the bright side, he knows Norv Turner's system.

Sat Jan 14 201214:01Whitehurst unlikely to return to Seattle
The Tacoma News Tribune does not expect the Seahawks to re-sign impending free agent Charlie Whitehurst.
"Check-down Charlie" attempted just 56 passes in 2011. He was so ineffective in his second of two starts in place of an injured Tarvaris Jackson that he was pulled after only seven throws in favor of T-Jax, who was dealing with a debilitating pectoral injury. Whitehurst should draw interest as a low-end backup on the open market.
