San Diego is not planning to change their offensive approach while Antonio Gates serves a four game suspension to begin the season, so Green will have the opportunity to do everything that Gates normally would, ESPN.com reports.
"He's going to have an opportunity early on to do a few more things," head coach Mike McCoy said. "Without Antonio for a couple weeks, he's going to have an opportunity to get more playing time... The system is staying the same, and we're looking forward to seeing him play more." This is positive confirmation of what we expected for Green, and he also has the added incentive of playing for his next deal because he is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Green is a huge breakout candidate, at least for the first quarter of the season.

With Antonio Gates suspended for the first four games of the season, Green will have a chance to prove that he's the Chargers' tight end of the future, ESPN.com reports.
This is the third consecutive offseason in which Green has been hyped as a breakout candidate, but with Antonio Gates finally out of the way, at least temporarily, the 25-year-old actually has an easy path to consistent snaps this time. It remains to be seen whether Green can turn his excellent physical traits into solid production, and even if he does, there's some chance the stats will dry up once Gates returns.

Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said the team needs to use Green more in 2015, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Green was a popular breakout candidate in 2014, but he ended up catching just 19 passes for 226 yards and no touchdowns, while Antonio Gates had 69 receptions for 821 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Chargers may want to get Green more involved, but the team still has Gates, Keenan Allen and Malcom Floyd, with Stevie Johnson replacing Eddie Royal. There are plenty of mouths to feed, and while Green obviously isn't lacking for athleticism, he's the least proven of the bunch.

Despite many predicting that he would become more of a focal point in the offense in 2014, Green ended the year with only 19 receptions for 226 yards and did not score a touchdown.
Green's lack of production wasn't so much an indictment of his skills as it was a testament to Antonio Gates' ability to turn back the hands of time. Gates was able to stay healthy all year and was simply great with 69 catches for 821 yards and 12 touchdowns. Still, Gates will turn 35 this summer, and Green will once again be waiting in the wings. Heading into his third season, it wouldn't surprise anybody if head coach Mike McCoy started to lean more heavily on Green in 2015.

Green (ankle) is active for Saturday's game against San Francisco.
Green's ankle issue won't keep him off the field Saturday, but his fantasy output figures to remain as disappointing as it's been all year. He has just 25 targets for 19 catches and 226 yards in 2014.

We'll circle back on Green's status Saturday, but with just 19 catches for 226 yards in 12 games to date, his fantasy upside is capped by the continued presence and health of fellow tight end Antonio Gates.

While a return to action by Green would bolster the Chargers' Week 16 TE depth, with just 19 catches for 226 yards in 12 games to date, Green remains off the fantasy radar, while working behind Antonio Gates.

Green had one reception on one target for nine yards in Thursday night's loss at Denver.
In a very crowded San Diego offense, Green has yet to carve out a consistent space for himself inside the offense. Outside of two four-catch performances in Weeks 3 and 5, Green has basically been a non-factor.

Green had four catches on five targets for 60 yards without a score in Sunday's win at Oakland.
Green has the looks of a great tight end, and he is definitely a factor in the San Diego offense, but he is just one of many weapons and will always struggle to get his fair share of touches. Until Antonio Gates either retires or gets injured, it will be tough to count on Green for big games on a week to week basis.

Green (hamstring) had just one catch for eight yards in Sunday's 31-0 win over the Jets.
Green was quiet, although he had a nice touchdown in the back of the end zone called back by a holding penalty in the first half. He seemed to struggle a bit as a blocker, getting smoked at one point by a pass rusher that sacked Phillip Rivers. In any event, Green seems to be relatively healthy, but the presence of Antonio Gates, who caught two touchdowns Sunday, still hinders his productivity.

As long as Antonio Gates is healthy, Green is going to be a hit-or-miss fantasy proposition, though Green figures to be healthy enough this Sunday to record some targets after not seeing any action in Week 4.
