Sun Oct 5 201420:23Patrick Peterson: (Ankle) Expected To Be Okay
Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said after Sunday's loss to the Broncos that he expects Peterson (ankle) to be okay, Darren Urban of the team's official website reports.
Peterson's rough start to the season took another turn for the worse, as he was forced out of Sunday's blowout loss in the second half. Prior to the injury, he struggled against Denver wideouts Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, who combined for 327 receiving yards on 15 catches. Should Peterson miss time beyond Week 5, it would leave more playing time for Justin Bethel and Jerraud Powers, the latter of whom has been working as the nickel corner. The Cardinals might also need more snaps out of safety Tyrann Mathieu, who has thus far worked in a part-time role.

Peterson suffered a left ankle injury during Sunday's game and is considered questionable to return.
Peterson recorded four tackles (three solo) prior to being forced from Sunday's contest in Denver. At the moment, the extent of the All Pro cornerback's injury is uncertain. Expect Peterson's status to be updated in the near future.

Peterson supplied four solo tackles in Sunday's win against the Giants in New York.
Peterson has little to show for his efforts this season, with five solo tackles and no other counting stats on the ledger. Along with the sparse stat lines, the league's highest-paid cornerback played one of the worst games of his career in Week 2. Eli Manning didn't shy away from Peterson, who was beat on a seven-yard touchdown grab by Reuben Randle. Moreover, Peterson committed one defensive hold and one pass interference apiece. While his prime contribution to IDP formats is interceptions, he's nearing a full year since his previous pick in Week 5 last season against the Panthers.
Thu Jul 31 201413:37Patrick Peterson: Defense-Only In 2014
Peterson won't appear on offense nor in the return game during the upcoming campaign, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Thus, Peterson will be able to focus solely on his assignments as a cornerback, which is a scary proposition after a stellar first three seasons earned him a five-year extension Tuesday. Once the deal kicks in in 2016, he'll be considered the NFL's highest-paid corner, with an average potential salary of $14 million per year. The addition of Antonio Cromartie in the offseason may allow Peterson to work away from an opponent's best receiver on occasion in 2014, but the LSU product will normally shadow the Calvin Johnsons and Demaryius Thomases of the league.
Tue Jul 29 201423:59Cards ink CB Peterson to 5-yr, $70M extension
Cardinals signed CB Patrick Peterson to a five-year, $70 million contract extension -- that includes $48 million guaranteed -- through 2020.
Peterson is now locked up for the next seven seasons through his age-30 campaign. Richard Sherman received $40 million guaranteed on his extension with the Seahawks earlier in the offseason, but Peterson is two years younger and signed a longer deal. In terms of new money, Peterson will make $14 million per year, while Sherman received $14.35 million annually in new cash. Peterson was a top-11 cover corner at Pro Football Focus last season and is still coming into his own. At 6'1/219, he has the size to match up with any receiver.

Tue Jul 29 201416:41Report: Cards, Peterson 'close' on extension
Yahoo's Rand Getlin reports the Cardinals are "close" to an extension with Patrick Peterson.
ESPN reported in May that the sides were discussing a deal worth more than $60 million. Peterson has a shot at becoming the league's highest-paid cornerback, though we doubt he's able to top Richard Sherman's $40 million guaranteed.

Wed May 14 201411:43Peterson won't play on returns or offense
Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson will not play on special teams or offense this season.
Peterson had a package of offensive plays last season, resulting in six catches and four carries. He's also been one of the game's premier punt returners for the last seasons, averaging 10.3 yards per return and scoring four touchdowns. But the Cardinals are preparing to sign him to a Richard Sherman/Joe Haden kind of deal, and don't need to risk injury with returners Ted Ginn/John Brown now on the roster.

Tue May 13 201410:10Cardinals, CB Peterson talking $60M extension
ESPN reports the Cardinals and CB Patrick Peterson are discussing a long-term contract extension that could be worth more than $60 million.
With Richard Sherman securing a $57 million extension that included $40 million guaranteed from the Seahawks last week, Peterson's agent and the Cardinals now have a template to work from. Peterson won't turn 24 until July. He's under team control through 2015 at just under $13 million, so there's no rush to get a deal done. Peterson and Joe Haden are next up for big extensions.

Sat May 10 201412:00Peterson's days as a reciever & returner over
Arizona coach Bruce Arians confirmed the team is unlikely to use CB Patrick Peterson as a wide receiver or kick returner after adding WR Ted Ginn Jr. in free agency and drafting WR John Brown in the third round.
The Cardinals tried and failed to get Peterson involved in the offense last season, and it seems that experiment is officially over. Ginn Jr. is expected to handle the kick and punt returning duties and help the offense as a situational deep threat. Brown can also help as a returner and brings blazing speed the wide receiver corps. Peterson can now focus on his main job as top-flight corner.

Thu Mar 27 201411:38Patrick Peterson will still do shadowing
DC Todd Bowles said Patrick Peterson will still be asked to shadow receivers at times.
In theory, the Cardinals could just "play sides" with their corners as long as newly signed Antonio Cromartie returns to 2012 form. But that would represent an under-utilization of Peterson, a potentially dominant press-man corner that is entering his prime. "It won't influence what Pat does," Bowles said of Cromartie's arrival. "They both match up well. Some games Pat will be matching up, some games Cromartie will be matching up, depending on the receiver."

Tue Mar 25 201418:26Report: AZ will exercise Peterson's option
The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals plan to exercise Patrick Peterson's fifth-year option for 2015 this offseason, and to begin extension talks.
The Cards have until May 3 to officially exercise Peterson's option. The extra year of team control gives Arizona leeway in long-term talks. Peterson fired his agent in January, fueling speculation that he was angling for an extension. Peterson passed up an opportunity last month to say he wouldn't hold out.

Tue Feb 4 201421:54Patrick Peterson doesn't rule out holdout
Appearing on Tuesday's Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports Network, Patrick Peterson passed up an opportunity to say he wasn't considering a holdout.
Angling for a contract extension, Peterson recently switched agents. "I can't speak on that right now," Peterson said. "Me and my agent, we haven't talked about some of those possibilities. But hopefully we can get something done." Peterson is technically signed through just 2014, but the Cardinals can exercise a fifth-year option on his rookie contract. Arizona holds most of the cards in long-term talks.

Fri Jan 24 201420:34Cardinals holding off on Peterson extension
AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban doesn't expect CB Patrick Peterson to receive a contract extension this offseason.
Peterson recently changed agents, leading to speculation that he's pushing for a new deal. The Cardinals can exercise a fifth-year option to keep Peterson under contract through 2015, and seem likely to wait until next year to begin long-term talks. Peterson has made the Pro Bowl in two straight seasons and graded out as the No. 16 corner in Pro Football Focus' year-end ratings. He's expected to command over $50 million guaranteed on his next contract.

Patrick Peterson fired his agent, Patrick Lawlor, on Monday night.
Peterson is expected to hire Joel Segal of Lagardere Unlimited as his new representation, just a few months before he's set to begin negotiating a long-term deal with the Cardinals. Peterson has one year left on his rookie deal following the 2013 season, and he's expected to command over $50 million guaranteed on a new contract. Peterson is Pro Football Focus' No. 8 corner.

Wed Aug 14 201317:50Cards GM raves about Patrick Peterson
Cardinals GM Steve Keim compares RCB Patrick Peterson to Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders.
"I've never been a part of a team with a more valuable defensive player," Keim raved. "Then you consider the guy can really help you in three phases of the game - defense, special teams and now as a receiver. He is one of a kind." Peterson has been taking regular snaps on offense this summer. Peterson's game doesn't quite yet match his reputation on defense, but that could change this season.

Mon Aug 5 201309:18Patrick Peterson getting more reps w/ offense
RCB Patrick Peterson is in about 15 of the Cardinals' offensive plays.
Coach Bruce Arians claims Peterson could be one of the top five wide receivers in the NFL. He's using his top corner and dynamic return man on the outside, in the slot and as a wingback. We don't doubt Peterson's athletic ability, but anything more than a fistful of snaps in four-wide sets on offense all year would be a surprise. Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and Andre Roberts won't be coming off the field much.
