Thu Jul 24 201417:47DT Dareus finally passes conditioning test
Bills activated DT Marcell Dareus from the active/PUP list.
Dareus has passed his conditioning test after showing up to camp out of shape. It shows a lack of professionalism, but isn't a concern for Dareus' 2014 status. Dareus is emerging as one of the league's better defensive linemen.

Mon Jul 21 201422:49Dareus enters program, charges dropped
Bills DT Marcell Dareus has agreed to enter an NFL substance-abuse program in order to have his felony drug charges in Alabama dropped.
Dareus skipped training camp on Monday -- though he wouldn't have been able to participate anyway due to his failed conditioning test over the weekend -- to attend a court hearing in Alabama. Next on Dareus' list to have resolved are his traffic violations stemming from a street racing incident over the spring. The tentative expectation is that Dareus will receive a one- or two-game ban.

Sun Jul 20 201417:52Bills DT Dareus reports to camp out of shape
Bills coach Doug Marrone revealed Sunday that DT Marcell Dareus opened camp on active/PUP because he couldn't pass the team's conditioning tests.
The Bills were the first team to open training camp when they took the field Sunday evening. Dareus was placed on the active/PUP list Saturday. It should only be a day-to-day situation, but is another red flag on Dareus following his May arrest for possession of synthetic marijuana. He's also consistently late to team meetings. Although Dareus is a Pro Bowl-caliber performer when focused, the Bills have to be growing wary of signing him to a high-dollar long-term extension. They do have Dareus under control for the next two seasons.

Fri Jul 11 201417:27Bills unsure if DT Dareus will be suspended
WGR 550 Buffalo reports "there isn't much clarification" on if DT Marcell Dareus will be suspended for the start of the season.
Dareus was arrested for possession of synthetic marijuana in May and is also dealing with misdemeanor charges stemming from a drag-racing incident. The NFL is waiting for both cases to play out before making a decision on whether to take disciplinary action. Dareus' Week 1 availability has potential to impact the roster spots of Corbin Bryant and Stefan Charles. The Bills could keep five defensive tackles even if Dareus isn't suspended.

Wed Jul 2 201409:10Marcell Dareus turns down plea deal
Marcell Dareus turned down a plea deal stemming from an alleged May 30 street-racing accident.
Dareus still wants to resolve misdemeanor reckless endangerment charges before a September 9 trial date, but he declined the prosecution's offer to plead guilty to a reckless driving charge. The incident came roughly one month after Dareus was arrested in Alabama and charged with possession of synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Commissioner Roger Goodell is likely waiting for both cases to shake out before dropping a disciplinary hammer.

Sat Jun 14 201410:53Dareus looking to get felony charges dropped
Bills DT Marcell Dareus has applied for a pre-trial intervention program in hopes of getting felony possession charges dropped.
Dareus was arrested in Alabama in May for possession of synthetic marijuana. If he is admitted into and finishes the pre-trial program, the possession charges could be dropped. Dareus is also dealing with misdemeanor charges stemming from a drag-racing incident in New York earlier this month.

Tue Jun 3 201412:41Coach Doug Marrone sticking by Dareus' side
Coach Doug Marrone said DT Marcell Dareus (arrests) will not participate in the remainder of OTAs but will be back for mandatory minicamp later this month.
"I believe in Marcell," Marrone said, indicating the Bills plan to stick by the fourth-year player after he was arrested for possession of synthetic marijuana last month before racking up three misdemeanor charges in a drag racing and property damage incident last weekend. The charges aren't major, but Dareus needs to get focused back on football after his breakout 2013 campaign.

Mon Jun 2 201417:50Dareus popped for leaving scene of accident
The Buffalo News reports Marcell Dareus was charged with three misdemeanors and four traffic violations for "drag racing and property damage" in Hamburg, N.Y. last week.
According to reporter Tim Graham, Dareus is "accused of leaving the scene of a property-damage accident." It's not a good look for a player who was arrested just last month for possession of synthetic marijuana. Racking up so many misdemeanors could leave Dareus subject to a suspension. Dareus is coming off a breakout year, but has to get his head on straight.

Thu May 8 201410:01Bills known about Dareus' issues for a while
Sources tell the Buffalo News that the Bills have been concerned about Marcell Dareus' marijuana usage since Chan Gailey was coach (2010-12).
"Nobody has been able to convince Dareus to stop getting high," the Buffalo News says. Dareus was arrested Monday on felony charges for possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia in Alabama. The substance was reportedly synthetic marijuana, which can potentially avoid detection in a drug test. Dareus is coming off a breakout season that saw him grade out sixth among 69 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' DT/NT rankings.

Tue May 6 201422:21Bills' Dareus busted on synthetic pot charges
Bills DT Marcell Dareus was arrested in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Monday for possession of synthetic marijuana.
An Alabama product, Dareus was reportedly released within an hour of his arrest. Not to make light of a player getting arrested, but it's an extremely minor offense in the grand scheme of things. The Bills recently exercised Dareus' 2015 team option. Coming off a beastly 2013, he's a candidate for a contract extension. This arrest shouldn't change that.

Sat Apr 26 201415:12Bills looking to sign Dareus long-term
The Bills are hoping to sign DT Marcell Dareus to long-term deal this offseason.
Dareus is under team control for the next two seasons at $11.22 million after the Bills exercised his fifth-year option, but GM Doug Whaley said a contract extension could be worked out after the draft. Dareus graded out as a top-six defensive tackle by Pro Football Focus last year and is coming off a career-high 7.5 sacks.

Fri Apr 25 201411:36Bills exercise 2015 option on Marcell Dareus
Bills exercised DT Marcell Dareus' fifth-year club option for 2015.
This was a no-brainer. Dareus is a candidate for a long-term extension but is now under team control for two more seasons at a very reasonable rate. The No. 3 overall pick of the 2011 draft has never missed a game and has 18.5 career sacks from the interior while also playing stout run defense. Dareus has a problem with showing up late to team meetings, but he's an on-field difference maker.

Fri Feb 21 201420:08Bills considering extension for DT Dareus
Bills GM Doug Whaley said at the Combine Friday that DT Marcell Dareus could be a candidate for a long-term extension.
"It's on our radar, but right now we prioritize things," Whaley said. Dareus is entering the final year of his rookie contract and graded out as the No. 6 defensive tackle by Pro Football Focus this past season. His contract situation could be put on hold with re-signing free agent FS Jairus Byrd a more pressing issue. The Bills could also exercise a fifth-year option to keep Dareus under contract through 2015.

Sun Dec 22 201318:13Bills bench Marcell Dareus for 1st quarter
The Bills benched DT Marcell Dareus in the first quarter of Week 16 for "habitual" tardiness.
Beat writers noticed Dareus on the sideline early in the game and were surprised. As it turns out, he was benched on a coaches' decision. Dareus leads all interior defensive linemen in tackles this year.

Bills DT Marcell Dareus exited Sunday's Week 15 game against the Jaguars with an ankle injury and will not return.

Mon Sep 30 201314:35Marcell Dareus terrorizes Ravens in Week 4
Bills DT Marcell Dareus registered seven tackles and two sacks in Buffalo's Week 4 win over Baltimore.
Dareus was a monster, knifing through a Ravens offensive line that has underperformed greatly early in the year. Through four games, Dareus is on pace for 76 tackles and a dozen sacks. He may finish closer to 6-8 sacks this year, but Dareus is coming into his own. Still only 23 years old, he's a top-ten pass-rushing interior lineman per Pro Football Focus' first-month ratings.

Sun Sep 22 201319:02Bills lose DT Dareus to ankle injury
Bills DT Marcell Dareus was ruled out of Sunday's Week 3 game with an ankle injury.
Meantime, Buffalo is getting throttled on the ground by Bilal Powell. Dareus is a 340-pound space eater inside. It's possible he's dealing with a high ankle sprain, based on the fact that he was ruled out and not deemed questionable or even "doubtful" to return to Sunday's game.

Sun Jul 7 201314:23Marcell Dareus looking to get lighter
Bills DT Marcell Dareus wants to play at a lighter weight this season.
"I want to be lighter this year because I want to be able to fly around the field and run to the ball and be an every down player," Dareus said. "I want to be able to play every down." The Bills' official website lists the former No. 3 overall pick at 331 pounds. He's reportedly fighting for first-team reps with Alex Carrington and Jay Ross in DC Mike Pettine's new defense.
