Tue Mar 12 201314:23Sean Smith has plenty of suitors
The Eagles, 49ers, Chiefs and Bucs are all reportedly in the mix for free agent CB Sean Smith.
Even though the corner market is deep, Smith could instigate a bidding war. The Eagles are looking for two starting corners and the Bucs had the worst secondary in the league last year. Both have plenty of cap space to go after the physically imposing Smith.

Mon Mar 11 201319:23Smith, Long not 'certainties' to depart
A league source tells the Miami Herald neither CB Sean Smith nor LT Jake Long are a "certainty" to leave the Dolphins in free agency.
Corner and tackle are among the deepest positions in free agency, so it's not a surprise. Both players have been transparent about seeking top dollar, but the Dolphins could still end up the highest bidder depending on how the open market shakes out. Long is probably more likely to return than Smith.

Mon Mar 11 201315:06Cardinals likely not in mix for Sean Smith
The Arizona Republic confirms free agent Sean Smith's price tag is "likely too high" for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals were previously floated as a potential Smith suitor, but they do not have much money. Cards beat writer Kent Somers considers Greg Toler, and perhaps Arizona alum Antoine Cason, to be likelier targets. Teams in the hunt for Smith had better be ready for a bidding war. He's a lock to get overpaid.

Mon Mar 11 201314:0349ers plan to pursue free agent CB Sean Smith
CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports the 49ers are expected to "make a run at the right price" on free agent Sean Smith.
The 49ers are in the market for a "cornerback with size," and Smith obviously fits that mold at 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds. Per Maiocco, the Niners will have to fend off the Eagles, Chiefs, and Buccaneers for Smith. Smith has made it blatantly obvious that he will sign with the highest bidder. Of the aforementioned group, San Francisco easily has the least amount of salary cap room.

Mon Mar 11 201312:4449ers looking for veteran CB 'with size'
The Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports the 49ers are "looking to add a veteran cornerback with size."
A four-year veteran who stands in at 6-foot-3, 214 pounds, free agent Sean Smith certainly fits the bill. Smith has already been connected to the 49ers, and could perhaps be signed with the money they'll save by letting S Dashon Goldson walk. At 6-foot-2, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is another possibility.

Sat Mar 9 201315:48Report: Pats, Bucs, Cards in on CB Sean Smith
Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole reports that the Patriots, Bucs, and Cardinals appear to be the "leading candidates" to land Sean Smith in free agency.
Cole concedes "things are fluid," and interestingly doesn't include the Eagles among Smith's leading landing spots. Arizona needs a bookend for Patrick Peterson, and new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is a former Dolphins assistant. The Patriots are considering moving on from fellow free agent Aqib Talib. The Bucs have the most cap space of the trio and Smith's stated desire is to "get paid."

Sat Mar 9 201309:57Chiefs no longer interested in Sean Smith
After signing CB Dunta Robinson, the Chiefs are no longer interested in CB Sean Smith.
Robinson is believed to be getting starter money from the Chiefs. With Brandon Flowers also getting paid as a starter, giving Smith top-of-market money no longer makes sense. The Eagles, 49ers, Buccaneers, and Lions have all been rumored to have interest in Smith.

Sat Mar 9 201301:263-5 teams in contact with Sean Smith
The Miami Herald reports "between three and five teams" have contacted free agent CB Sean Smith since midnight Saturday.
So, four. We kid. The Eagles and Chiefs are believed to be two of the teams, and the 49ers, Buccaneers, and Lions have been previously rumored as having some level of interest. Smith's market ought to heat up a bit on Saturday.

Sat Mar 9 201301:10Eagles 'still in the mix' on Sean Smith
The Eagles are "still in the mix" for free agent CB Sean Smith.
Smith's representatives have been contacted by the Chiefs and Eagles -- and likely others -- since the legal tampering window opened at midnight. Philadelphia has money to blow and a huge need on the outside. Smith will likely be one of the heaviest "blurbed" players here at Rotoworld over the next five days.

Sat Mar 9 201300:29Chiefs 'showing an interest' in Sean Smith
NFL Network's Albert Breer reports the Chiefs have "shown an interest" in free agent CB Sean Smith early on in the legal tampering period.
Even with the signing of Dunta Robinson earlier on Friday night, the Chiefs are still interested in the 25-year-old Smith. He had reportedly already been in contact with Chiefs DBs coach Al Harris two weeks ago. Smith is reportedly seeking $7 million to $7.5 million annually. Brandon Flowers, Robinson, and Smith would be quite the trio at corner.

Thu Mar 7 201317:36Sean Smith expected to command $7-7.5M/year
ESPN's Adam Schefter estimated on NFL32 that Sean Smith will command in the range of $7 million to $7.5 million annually in free agency.
Per Schefter, Smith is widely viewed around the league as the top cornerback available. We prefer Aqib Talib, and perhaps teams would if he were cleaner off the field. Smith, who played college ball at Utah, is squeaky clean and only 25 years old. Look for the Chiefs, Eagles, Buccaneers, and perhaps Jaguars to contact Smith when the negotiating period opens Friday at midnight.

Tue Mar 5 201319:20Chiefs expected to target corner in FA
Appearing on Total Access Tuesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Chiefs will target a cornerback in free agency.
The Chiefs have money to burn and a major hole opposite Brandon Flowers, so it's not a surprise. They could be targeting Sean Smith, who has reportedly already been in contact with Chiefs DBs coach Al Harris. Harris was a defensive assistant with the Dolphins last season. If Smith is the Dolphins' target, they'll have to open their wallet, as his reported priority is to "get paid."

Tue Mar 5 201310:21Sean Smith likely done with the Dolphins
A source told the Palm Beach Post that there's a zero percent chance of free agent CB Sean Smith re-signing with the Dolphins.
It's an exaggeration, but it's further confirmation that the two sides are far apart on potential terms. Smith wants to break the bank as a shutdown-caliber man-to-man corner, while the Dolphins think he's replaceable in DC Kevin Coyle's zone scheme. Look for Smith to land with the highest bidder once free agency opens next week.

Wed Feb 27 201315:28Sean Smith says he didn't talk to Chiefs
Free agent Sean Smith insists he's "never talked to any other team besides the Miami Dolphins."
According to Smith, former teammate Vontae Davis got the impression Smith was talking to the Chiefs after Smith told him he'd been in contact with new DBs coach Al Harris. Smith claims he was just congratulating Harris. We don't expect the Dolphins to pursue tampering charges.

Wed Feb 27 201313:47Former teammate: Sean Smith talking to KC
According to former teammate Vontae Davis, free agent Sean Smith is "talking" to the Chiefs.
"I seen my dude Sean Smith last night he said (he's) talking to KC him & (Brandon) Flowers will make a good duo," Davis tweeted. That, of course, is tampering, but such talks are rarely policed. The Chiefs had a big hole opposite Flowers after letting Brandon Carr walk last season, and have relatively few high picks in this year's draft. That could mean they'll fill needs via free agency.

Mon Feb 25 201316:13Sean Smith may break bank in free agency
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, "maybe the most coveted" name on the free-agent cornerback market is Sean Smith.
Rapoport lists the Eagles, 49ers, Buccaneers, and Lions as teams that "value" Smith. All are cornerback needy, and Philadelphia reportedly likes Smith "a ton." Rapoport suggests the Eagles may let free agent Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie walk, sign Smith, and bring back Nnamdi Asomugha on a restructured contract.

Sun Feb 24 201317:17Dolphins, Sean Smith still talking new deal
The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins have talked with free agent CB Sean Smith "the past couple days," but that the sides "still have plenty of distance to bridge."
Reporter Barry Jackson characterizes the situation as "fluid," and confirms the sides began the week with "vastly different views of (Smith's) value." Smith is reportedly seeking "at least" $24 million guaranteed. The franchise or transition tag may be his best bet to remain in Miami.
