Bears DE Corey Wootton will reportedly miss four weeks with meniscus damage in his right knee. |
Last year's fourth-round pick was injured on the opening kickoff of the preseason opener Saturday night. Wootton reportedly to camp in peak condition and had been a "standout" in recent practices. The Bears hope to have him back by Week 1, but he's unlikely to be a factor in September. Vernon Gholston may now have a better chance to make the roster. |

Mon May 17 2010 | 09:12 | Wootton was passed over b/c of neck injury |
Rookie DE Corey Wootton fell to the fourth round of the draft because of an old neck injury, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. |
We thought it was the ACL tear that caused Wootton's free fall, but it turns out that was only part of it. At least three teams did not have Wootton on their draft board because of the neck and others had him downgraded severely. If Wootton ends up healthy, he'd go down as a steal for the Bears. |

Tue Apr 27 2010 | 09:14 | Bears to use Wootton at left defensive end |
The Bears will use fourth-round pick Corey Wootton at left defensive end. |
It's the best position for Wootton, who goes 6'6/270. A steal in round four according to NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock, Wootton has a legitimate chance to start in Chicago. Highly undersized Mark Anderson and swing tackle/end Israel Idonije will be the Northwestern alum's competition in camp. |
