Wed Apr 11 201211:34Report: Bengals sign CB Terence Newman
Bengals agreed to terms with CB Terence Newman, formerly of the Cowboys.
The 33-year-old isn't known to have visited any teams other than Cincinnati. It's fair to wonder if he will receive any guaranteed money after getting routinely toasted down the stretch last season. Although he's a favorite of DC Mike Zimmer, Newman will have to compete with Jason Allen and Pacman Jones for snaps behind Nate Clements and Leon Hall.

Tue Mar 27 201210:33Bengals 'working to add' Newman
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the Bengals are "working to add" free agent Terence Newman.
Speaking at the owners meetings Tuesday, coach Marvin Lewis said the Bengals would "love" to sign Newman. He would be reuniting with DC Mike Zimmer in Cincinnati, who held the same position with the Cowboys when they made Newman the fifth overall pick of the 2003 draft. One of the league's worst corners in 2011, Newman has received no other known interest in free agency.

Tue Mar 13 201214:36Cowboys release 33-year-old corner Newman
Cowboys released CB Terence Newman.
The oft-injured 32-year-old didn't stand a chance of seeing his scheduled $6 million salary after being toasted routinely throughout the final two months of the season. The Cowboys will use the cap savings to target free agents Cortland Finnegan and Brandon Carr. Newman may have to take an incentive-laden deal on the open market.

Sun Feb 26 201212:39Jerry Jones discusses CB Newman's 2011
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes LCB Terence Newman "could be good value" in 2012, but admits "there has been a difference in his play."
The main "difference" in Newman's play last season was that he got burned even more than he did in 2010. Jones' comments suggest Dallas might be willing to bring Newman back for 2012 if he's willing to take a pay-cut from his current scheduled salary of $6.016 million, but the odds remain high he's released. The Cowboys can save $4 million in cap space by cutting Newman before June 1, but $6 million if they can wait.

Tue Jan 24 201209:33Jones hints Newman won't be back w/ Dallas
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hinted Monday LCB Terence Newman will likely be released.
"In the secondary, I think we'll get better," Jones said. "We'll very likely have new faces over there. How many, I can't tell you. But I know we'll have some new faces." The Cowboys can free up $4 million in cap space by releasing Newman before June 1, and $6 million if they can wait until June. Newman was absolutely brutal in coverage this season, and graded out as one of the league's worst cornerbacks by Pro Football Focus.

Thu Jan 19 201211:47Cowboys can save $6M in salary cap space
Updating a previous item, the Cowboys can save $6 million in salary cap space by waiting until after June 1 to release CB Terence Newman.
The savings is $4 million if they cut Newman before that date. The Cowboys could get the move out of the way early if they want cap space during free agency, but it's also possible that Dallas will hold onto Newman's rights into the summer. That wouldn't be a good development for Newman's free agent stock.

Thu Jan 12 201211:12Cowboys can save $4M by cutting Newman
The Cowboys can save $4 million in salary cap space by releasing LCB Terence Newman this offseason.
Newman's 2012 cap number is $8 million, and Dallas can slice that number in half by cutting him. According to ESPN Dallas, the Cowboys "would love" for Alabama CB Dre Kirkpatrick to fall to them in April's draft. The Cowboys draft 14th overall. In 2011, Newman graded out as Pro Football Focus' 102nd-rated cornerback in coverage amongst the 109 who qualified.

Cowboys LCB Terence Newman (groin) has been ruled out for Week 1.
Orlando Scandrick will start in his place against the Jets, and has a nightmare matchup in Santonio Holmes. Newman's status for Week 2 against the 49ers is unclear, but if he's still not 100 percent it's unlikely the Cowboys will rush him back to face San Francisco's soft passing attack.

Tue Sep 6 201118:19Report: Cowboys CB Newman ruled out
Cowboys LCB Terence Newman (groin) has reportedly been ruled out for the season opener against the Jets.
Newman was given a 4-6 week timetable in early August. It's no surprise that he's falling toward the latter estimate. Newman's absence is good news for Mark Sanchez and the Jets passing game, as Dallas' secondary was burnable in exhibition action.

Sat Aug 13 201117:49Newman expected back before Week 1
The Cowboys expect LCB Terence Newman (groin) back before the season opener (September 11).
Newman was given a 4-6 week range on August 3. Said owner Jerry Jones Saturday, "The timetable was it would be close to the season opener, but he really is working hard to make progress. No one knows, but he's certainly at or above and beyond the level we had hoped he would be." Given Newman's extensive injury history, we won't believe any news regarding his "progress" until we see him on the field.
