Sun Nov 2 201411:39Smith (shoulder) active for Sunday's game against Jets
Smith (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against the Jets.
Smith suffered a right shoulder strain during last Sunday's win over the Rams, but he practiced fully this week and will take on a Jets defense that has allowed a league-high 22 passing touchdowns so far this season.

Smith (shoulder) practiced fully Friday and is probable for Sunday's game against the Jets, the Chiefs' official site reports.
Smith -- who has a 9:4 TD:INT ratio to date -- looks good to go for Sunday's game and working in his favor is that the 1-7 Jets have surrendered a league-high 22 passing TDs thus far.

Smith (shoulder) practiced fully Wednesday, the Chiefs' official site reports.
Smith thus appears headed for a probable designation in advance of Sunday's game against the Jets, who have surrendered a league-high 22 passing TDs to date.

Smith (shoulder) will practice Wednesday, BJ Kissel of KCChiefs.com reports.
Smith's level of participation has yet to be clarified, but his presence Wednesday -- in any capacity -- is a good sign that the shoulder sprain the QB suffered in Week 8 is not likely prevent him from starting Sunday's game against the Jets.

Coach Andy Reid relayed Monday that Smith suffered a right shoulder strain in Sunday's win over the Rams, BJ Kissel of KCChiefs.com reports.
Reid suggested that the signal-caller should be fine as Week 9's game against the Jets approaches, though he did note Monday that Smith's throwing shoulder "is a little tender," so it wouldn't surprise us to see the QB limited some once the Chiefs return to practice.

Smith completed 24 of 28 passes for 226 yards in Sunday's 34-7 win over the Rams.
Smith was at his low-risk best on Sunday in terms of taking care of the football and being accurate with his passes, but the conservative approach resulted in no passing touchdowns and a rather lackluster fantasy day. He gets another outstanding matchup next week against the Jets, which should hopefully result in more touchdowns, but his upside will continue to be capped by the Chiefs' grind-it-out, don't-make-mistakes philosophy.

Smith completed 19-of-28 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-20 win at San Diego. He also ran six times for 29 yards.
Smith looked sharp after Kansas City's bye in Week 6, completing 68 percent of his passes while posting a solid 7.9 YPA. He was starting to pick up the touchdown pace, with seven in his previous three games, but the Chiefs scored only twice as a team Sunday. In Week 8, he'll face a St. Louis squad that has allowed over 300 passing yards to Colin Kapernick and Russell Wilson in back-to-back weeks.

Smith completed 17-of-31 passes for 175 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 22-17 loss at San Francisco. He had just one carry for six yards.
Smith played relatively well, throwing scores to emerging Travis Kelce and rookie De'Anthony Thomas, but couldn't lead a comeback in the closing minutes of the game. The veteran signal caller has tossed eight touchdowns in the last three games, and has looked sharp in general this season, completing 64 percent of his pass attempts, while also showing underrated athleticism as a runner (18 carries for 109 yards). He's got a bye next week, before traveling to San Diego for an AFC West showdown in Week 7.

Smith completed 20-of-26 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns in Monday's 41-14 win over the Patriots.
Smith turned in a nearly flawless performance, and the Patriots were steamrolled by Kansas City's running game. Those two things are closely related, as Smith got to do most of his passing in favorable situations, against a defense that was worried about its continued inability to stop the run. Though he has six touchdowns and no interceptions over the last two games, Smith seems to be on track for a season similar to what he produced last year. Even with the emergence of TE Travis Kelce, Smith doesn't figure to throw a ton of passes, except for when the Chiefs are in catch-up mode.

Smith completed 19-of-25 passes for 186 yards with three touchdowns in Sunday's win at Miami.
It wasn't all perfect, as Smith was sacked five times, and lost a fumble. Still, it was a nice bounce-back performance after last week's touchdownless outing. It remains to be seen if Jamaal Charles (ankle) will play in Week 4, but Knile Davis ran for over 100 yards Sunday, and Smith made the most of unheralded weapons, throwing a pair of scores to Joe McKnight.

Smith threw for 255 yards with no touchdowns in Sunday's 24-17 loss at Denver. He did not turn the ball over, and rushed for 42 yards.
Smith kept Kansas City in the game, with his usual dinking and dunking, although he did find young tight end Travis Kelce down the field a couple of times. It looked like Smith might force overtime late in regulation, but his fourth-down pass from a couple of yards away fell incomplete. Even though Smith didn't account for any touchdowns, he did help fantasy owners out with his rushing ability for the second straight week.

Smith struggled in Sunday's 26-10 loss to Tennessee, completing just 19-of-35 passes for 202 yards. He tossed one touchdown and was intercepted three times.
Smith did contribute 36 yards on the ground, but it was a relatively ugly performance at home. He was missing one of his top wide receivers in Dwayne Bowe, and Kansas City curiously gave Jamaal Charles just 11 touches. In any event, Smith is going to have to play a lot better in Week 2, as he'll have his hands full with Denver on the road.
Sun Aug 31 201418:59Smith has agreed to four-year
Smith has agreed to a four-year, $68 million extension with the Chiefs, the Kansas City Star reports.
With Smith set to become a free agent after the season, the Chiefs will lock him up for the next four years. The deal guarantees Smith $45 million, with the remaining $23 million based upon certain bonuses, most of which are probably tied to his production. While questions remain regarding Smith's ability to lead a contending team, he's coming off of a season in which he threw for 23 touchdowns and a career-best 3,313 yards. Thus far in the preseason, Smith is 31-of-51 for 286 yards and two picks.

Smith will not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Packers, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com.
The Chiefs will not play any starters in Thursday's game, so Chase Daniel will get the start at quarterback in place of Smith. Smith will be back under center when the Chiefs kick off the regular season Sept. 7 against the Titans.

Smith completed 14-of-24 passes for 140 yards and two picks in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings.
Smith, who also ran three times for 21 yards in the contest, only threw seven interceptions all of last season, so Saturday's picks -- both of which occurred with the Chiefs inside the Minnesota 20-yard line -- are noteworthy. Of course, the Chiefs' offense was operating Saturday without star running back Jamaal Charles and receivers Dwayne Bowe and Junior Hemingway. It remains to be seen if Smith will see any action in the Chiefs' exhibition finale Thursday, but given that the team's starters have failed to score a touchdown in 16 possessions this preseason, it's plausible that they could see some additional tune-up reps in that contest.

Smith completed 14-of-22 passes for 127 yards, and he ran one time for nine yards during Sunday's preseason game against the Panthers.
Smith played the entire first half, but did not seem to have any real chemistry with receivers not-named Dwayne Bowe. That will be an issue heading into the season, as Bowe, who caught five passes on six targets for 62 yards (all from Smith), is suspended for the first game of the season. With Jamaal Charles (foot) sitting this one out, Smith threw the ball more than he normally does, so fantasy owners shouldn't look at the stat line and start thinking that Smith is going to start throwing 44 times per game.

Smith is being encouraged by the Chiefs to attempt more downfield passes, ESPN.com reports.
Smith was largely conservative last season, as the team's leading receiver was running back Jamaal Charles. This led to Smith throwing only seven interceptions, but the Chiefs were dominated by their opponents in terms of pass plays of 20 yards or greater. Andy Reid and company hope for this to change this season, as they will encourage their quarterback to take more chances on deep balls than in years past. If this holds true at the onset of the regular season, both Donnie Avery and Dwayne Bowe may see more opportunities for big plays down the field.
Wed Jul 30 201416:54Smith won't let contract become a distraction
Walk-year QB Alex Smith said he will table his contract discussions with the Chiefs if they become a distraction.
"You're getting to the point where either way, you want it to stop being a distraction," Smith said. "You're finally gonna cross a line where it's like, it's just football from here on out." Smith has already said he wants to stay in Kansas City, but "significant differences" still exist between the two sides. It appears unlikely a deal will be struck before the season.

Mon Jul 28 201416:29Chiefs still talking contract w/ Alex Smith
Speaking Monday, coach Andy Reid confirmed the Chiefs remain in long-term talks with walk-year QB Alex Smith.
Smith said earlier this month that he remained hopeful of striking a deal. Despite the ongoing dialogue, there's been little indication the sides are close to an agreement. A bridge quarterback now on the wrong side of 30, Smith is a complicated long-term case.

Thu Jul 17 201420:02Alex Smith still eyeing long-term Chiefs deal
Walk-year QB Alex Smith remains hopeful of signing a long-term agreement with the Chiefs.
Speaking Thursday, Smith said the sides have had ongoing talks. "I'd love to have it done," Smith said. "But when you're talking about this many years and that type of deal, you want it done right. You want both sides happy." The Chiefs are in a tough spot, as Smith, 30, has everything you'd want in a bridge quarterback, but hasn't proven to be someone you build an offense around. A 2-3 year deal could end up being the compromise.
