As the Texans don't negotiate during the season, the hope is that one or both will be locked up within the next few weeks. Brown and Barwin are both entering the final year of their rookie contracts. Brown emerged as one of the top blind-side tackles in the game last season.

Coach Gary Kubiak singled out LT Duane Brown for having a "great offseason."

"He's got a chance to be a Pro Bowl player," said Kubiak. "I thought he played as good as any tackle in football last year, but they usually make you do it more than once." Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Brown will be a candidate for a long-term extension over the next few months.

Brown was Pro Football Focus' sixth-rated tackle in 2011, and second to only Jason Peters among left tackles. Considered a reach by many as the 26th overall pick in the 2008 draft, Brown has emerged as one of the more efficient linemen in the league. PFF charged him with zero sacks allowed in 16 starts last season. Going on age 27, he's entering the last year of his rookie deal.
