Sat Aug 8 201516:26Darren McFadden: (Hamstring) Return To Practice Pushed Back
McFadden (hamstring) won't practice until next Saturday at the earliest, the Rainer Sabin of the Dallas Morning News reports. "We anticipate his plan to be that he is going to get more and more work on the side this week and then hopefully practice after San Diego," head coach Jason Garrett said Saturday. "That might change. But that's the plan as we sit right now."
The Cowboys open the preseason slate Thursday in San Diego, after which a decision will come down regarding McFadden's ability to practice. The development is a significant departure from Garrett's contention Wednesday that McFadden was a day or two from hitting the practice field, according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News. While residing on the PUP list in the early portion of training camp, McFadden has fallen behind Joseph Randle for the top running back gig in Dallas. Consequently, it remains to be seen how much of a chance McFadden will be afforded in the backfield competition.

Coach Jason Garrett noted Wednesday that McFadden (hamstring) is a day or two away from practicing, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Once McFadden returns to practice, he'll have an opportunity to compete for touches with fellow RB's Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar, as the Cowboys go about the business of re-tooling their backfield in the wake of the departure of previous starter DeMarco Murray. For now, Randle presumably holds the edge on that front, though if McFadden can get, and more importantly stay healthy, it will be interesting to see what he can do running behind Dallas' strong offensive line.

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett thinks McFadden (hamstring) will only miss about a week of training camp, Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com reports. "We don't think it's a serious thing," Garrett said Thursday. "We anticipate him being back some time in the next week or so. You always want to be deliberate in how you handle these guys. We don't think it's that serious."
While Garrett's optimism is nice, this is already McFadden's second hamstring injury of the offseason, and he'll now begin his Cowboys career firmly behind Joseph Randle on the running back depth chart. There's still plenty of time before Week 1 for him to wrest the starting job away from Randle, but McFadden will first need to find a way to stay healthy.

McFadden has been placed on the Cowboys' preseason physically unable to perform list due to what the Fort Worth Star-Telegram refers to as a nagging hamstring injury.
McFadden, who averaged just 3.3 yards per carry over his last three seasons with Oakland, is now looking to revive his NFL career with the Cowboys, who boast a strong offensive line. Of course, in order to do so, McFadden will have to move past his latest hamstring issue, which is not a necessarily a given considering his track record in the injury department. Once McFadden is cleared to practice, he's expected to compete with fellow RB Joseph Randle, as the Cowboys seek to re-tool their backfield following the departure of former starter DeMarco Murray.
Tue Jun 30 201512:13McFadden said hamstring doing great
McFadden said his hamstring is doing great, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.
McFadden was limited by a hamstring ailment during OTAs, but he made it back on the field for mandatory minicamp in mid-June. He'll enter training camp with a shot to earn a significant role in the offense, competing against Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams for carries. Randle and McFadden are the favorites to win the starting job.

McFadden (hamstring) is participating in Tuesday's minicamp practice, Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports.
McFadden missed most of OTAs but doesn't seem to be dealing with a serious issue. Of course, he's been limited by nagging injuries throughout his career, so this wasn't the best way to start his tenure as a Cowboy. He's still in line to compete against Joseph Randle for the top spot in the Dallas backfield, with Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams (knee) potentially also in the mix. The Cowboys' o-line is far better than what McFadden had to work with in Oakland, but even if he earns a key role this could end up as a committee.
Wed Jun 10 201512:16McFadden (hamstring) not yet at full strength
McFadden (hamstring) is not yet at full strength, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
McFadden continues to nurse a strained hamstring, and he'll likely be limited throughout the week. Joseph Randle will likely get the first team reps in McFadden's absence, while Lance Dunbar figures to work with the second team given Ryan Williams' (knee) absence.
Thu Jun 4 201511:06McFadden worked out on side Wednesday due to hamstring strain
McFadden worked out on the side Wednesday due to a hamstring strain, ESPN.com reports.
Meanwhile, Joseph Randle took the team's first-team running back snaps on Wednesday. While it doesn't appear as though McFadden's current hamstring issue is a major concern, he does have a notable injury history, so it's worth mentioning. Once he's back on the field with his teammates, McFadden will look to solidify his role in what could well emerge as a backfield time-share between him and Randle, with Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams (who is dealing with a sore knee) also on hand.
Tue May 26 201510:14Joseph Randle
Joseph Randle, and not McFadden, is expected to get the initial look with the Cowboys' first team offense as the team heads into their OTAs, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Fantasy players will be keeping a very close eye on how the Cowboys backfield shakes out heading into Week 1, given the production any back could have running behind their supremely talented offensive line. Randle's role with the first team could simply be a matter of his familiarity with the offense compared to new Cowboy McFadden, but you may want to hold off using a higher pick on the former Raider until his spot on the depth chart is a little clearer.

McFadden remains on top of the Cowboys' depth chart after the club failed to select a running back in this year's draft.
The club insists that they are comfortable with the players currently on the roster, and the Cowboys' elite offensive line is certainly capable of making any back a fantasy asset, but McFadden's inability to stay healthy throughout his career is going to make him a tough player to invest in.
Fri Mar 13 201510:54Darren McFadden: Signs With Cowboys
McFadden has agreed to a two-year contract with the Cowboys, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Coming off three straight seasons in which he averaged fewer than 3.5 yards per carry, McFadden will look to bounce back with the Cowboys in his age-28 campaign. While the upgrade in his offensive line will be massive, McFadden's once-elite athleticism has waned over the years, and 2014 marked the first time he played all 16 games. Given McFadden's lack of recent success, he'll have to earn his touches with a strong training camp and preseason. After losing DeMarco Murray to the Eagles, Dallas figures to bring in another running back or two via free agency and/or the draft. The team also has Lance Dunbar, Joseph Randle and Ryan Williams under contract. McFadden's best-case scenario likely involves splitting touches with one or two other players.

McFadden rushed for 534 yards and two touchdowns on 155 attempts and added 36 receptions on 55 targets for 212 yards in 2014. He also lost his lone fumble on the season.
Much to the surprise of his fantasy owners, McFadden actually stayed healthy for a full 16 games for the first time in his career, but it ultimately didn't matter. The 27-year-old limped to a 3.4 yards per carry average, ripping off just one run of 20-plus yards in 155 tries, scored just twice and lost his starting role to Latavius Murray late in the year. At 27, McFadden's days of being a serviceable runner appear to be behind him. He's an unrestricted free agent heading into the offseason and will likely have to settle for a second- or third-string job elsewhere.

McFadden rushed for 54 yards on nine carries and added one catch on two targets for zero yards in Sunday's 26-24 win over the Bills.
Latavius Murray did the heavy lifting, wearing down the Bills' front seven during the first half, allowing McFadden to find some running room late (41 yards on final four carries). McFadden's 25-yard rush in the fourth quarter was his longest since Week 2 of last season. He'll continue to serve in a complementary role behind Murray in next Sunday's finale against Denver.

McFadden had just four carries for five yards in Sunday's win over the 49ers.
Meanwhile, rookie Latavius Murray (concussion) returned from a one-game absence to rush for 76 yards on 23 carries. It looks like McFadden will be somewhat phased out of the offense, as long as the speedy Murray is healthy.

McFadden had 11 carries for 27 rushing yards and two catches on two targets for 18 receiving yards Sunday against the Rams.
With Latavius Murray sidelined with a concussion, McFadden once again led the backfield, though he failed to rush for even 30 yards for the fifth consecutive game. The Raiders' running game is a mess and it doesn't figure to get any better in Week 14 against a 49ers defense allowing the seventh-fewest rushing yards per game this season.
Sat Nov 29 201411:53McFadden
McFadden, Maurice Jones-Drew and Marcel Reece are all expected to see work Sunday against St. Louis with Latavius Murray (concussion) ruled out, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
It sounds like the Raiders will start off with a three-headed attack on the ground Sunday, but interim coach Tony Sparano said the carries will then be doled out based on "flow" of the game and the situation. McFadden has averaged under 2.7 yards per carry in each of his last four games and Jones-Drew has been equally ineffective this season, so it would make sense if the team looked to get Reece heavily involved against the Rams. All three figure to give way to Murray once he's cleared.

McFadden had 29 yards on 12 carries and five yards on two receptions in Thursday's 24-20 win over the Chiefs.
McFadden's value took a hit, as his own underwhelming performance was matched by a huge game from Latavius Murray, who left with a concussion after rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns on four carries in the first half. Murray thus figures to be a big part of the offense when he returns, and he may even get the opportunity to replace McFadden as the starter. Further adding to Run DMC's woes, starting fullback Marcel Reece dominated the fourth-quarter snaps at halfback, finishing with 37 yards on eight carries. McFadden still figures to have some kind of role, but the little bit of upside he once had is essentially gone.

Though McFadden took first-team reps at practice this week, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggests that Latavius Murray will get more work than usual Thursday against the Chiefs.
Given that McFadden has combined for 15 carries for 35 yards over his last two games, he's not a high-percentage play this week anyway, with the possibility that Murray sees increased looks after carrying four times for 43 yards this past Sunday, further putting a damper on McFadden's Week 12 fantasy prospects.

McFadden rushed for just 21 yards on eight carries and failed to haul in any of his three targets in Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Chargers.
McFadden is averaging a mere 1.9 yards per carry over his last three games (28 attempts), with a long over that span of nine yards, and has scored just once in his last eight games. Latavius Murray more than doubled his production on the ground Sunday (43 yards) on four carries, and it would make sense if the Raiders, now 0-10, gave the 24-year-old Murray an expanded role in the weeks ahead.

McFadden ran for just 14 yards on seven carries and caught 4-of-7 targets in Sunday's 41-17 loss to the Broncos.
The game was close in the first half, but McFadden still couldn't get on track. He's really struggled, along with the rest of the Raiders' offense, over the last two games, rushing for a measly 34 yards on 27 carries. Despite the underwhelming performance as of late, Oakland really doesn't have a lot of options in the backfield, so he should once again see the majority of the work next week at San Diego.
