Sat Aug 30 201414:50Painter released by Giants
Painter has been released by the Giants, NJ.com reports.
As expected, Ryan Nassib beat out Painter for the right to serve as Eli Manning's top backup. The veteran could get a call once injuries strike, but he probably won't land on a roster before Week 1.
Mon Apr 28 201414:06Curtis Painter undergoes right knee surgery
Reserve Giants QB Curtis Painter is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, and will be sidelined four weeks.
The Giants' Josh Freeman signing just got a little more understandable. Four weeks should have Painter ready in plenty of time for training camp, but going on 29 with an unimpressive track record, his roster spot is far from assured. The Giants have second-year pro Ryan Nassib in the huddle in addition to Painter, Freeman and Eli Manning.

Tue Mar 11 201415:35Giants re-sign QB Curtis Painter
Giants re-signed QB Curtis Painter.
Painter was Eli Manning's backup last season, but those duties could fall to Ryan Nassib this season. Depending on how Nassib looks in camp, Painter might not make the 53-man roster.

Sun Sep 1 201316:39Curtis Painter is Giants No. 2 quarterback
Coach Tom Coughlin named Curtis Painter the Giants' No. 2 quarterback.
Painter's solid preseason made David Carr expendable. Painter will be the No. 2, and rookie Ryan Nassib the No. 3 behind Eli Manning. "We simply based it on the preseason," Coughlin said. "From the standpoint of all the evaluations, it pointed to the fact that Painter had a better preseason." In August, Painter showed some ability to move the offense and had zero turnovers.

Thu Jan 3 201317:35Giants sign Painter to reserve/future deal
Giants signed QB Curtis Painter, WR Brandon Collins, WR Kevin Hardy, OG Michael Jasper, DB Trumaine McBride, LB Jake Muasau, and DT Bobby Skinner to reserve/future contracts.
Painter was out of the league in 2012 after getting cut by the Ravens coming out of training camp. He started eight games for the Colts in 2011, finishing with a 54.3 completion rate, 66.6 passer rating, 6:9 TD-to-INT ratio, and 6.3 YPA.

Fri Aug 31 201222:06Ravens unload seven more, led by Painter
Ravens waived or released RB Anthony Allen, LB Josh Bynes, OL Antoine McClain, QB Curtis Painter, WR Logan Payne, DB Cyhl Quarles, and C Tony Wragge.
Tyrod Taylor beat out Painter for the No. 2 job behind Joe Flacco. A developmental quarterback could be added to the practice squad. Allen was made expendable after the emergence of Bobby Rainey, who will compete with Bernard Pierce behind Ray Rice.

Thu Jul 5 201210:51Curtis Painter facing an uphill battle
Coach John Harbaugh has repeatedly said that Curtis Painter will enter training camp as the No. 3 quarterback.
Harbaugh has been in Tyrod Taylor's corner all offseason. Painter went 0-8 as a starter with the Colts last season, completing just 54.7 percent of his passes and throwing nine interceptions against six touchdowns during that span. The Ravens gave him a one-year, $615,000 contract that included no signing bonus. He's no lock to stick on the final roster.

Thu Apr 19 201215:22Ravens signing QB Curtis Painter
Ravens agreed to terms with QB Curtis Painter.
Painter apparently got the edge over Dennis Dixon and Kyle Boller due to his history with new QBs coach Jim Caldwell. Owner of a career 51.7 completion percentage and 60.6 passer rating, Painter will likely end up third on the depth chart behind Joe Flacco and Tyrod Taylor.

Thu Apr 19 201213:43Ravens work out QB Curtis Painter
In addition to Kyle Boller and Dennis Dixon, the Ravens also worked out free agent QB Curtis Painter on Thursday.
We're mildly surprised that Dixon has yet to find a landing spot, but Painter isn't going to be more than a third-string quarterback after being outplayed by Dan Orlovsky in Indy last season.

Wed Apr 18 201214:41Ravens working out Curtis Painter
In addition to Dennis Dixon and Kyle Boller, the Ravens will work out free agent QB Curtis Painter on Thursday.
Painter was waived by the Colts in early March and was not claimed by a team. The 27-year-old could compete for the Ravens' backup job with Tyrod Taylor.

Fri Mar 9 201217:20Colts waive QB Curtis Painter
Colts waived QB Curtis Painter.
Painter was due only a $565,000 base salary, but the new Colts regime wanted nothing to do with him. While Painter's physical traits are better than his 2011 stats may indicate, he's an absolute nightmare from a footwork and decision-making standpoint. The 27-year-old may latch on as a third-string quarterback somewhere. Baltimore makes some sense after the Ravens hired Jim Caldwell to coach their QBs. He'd be the No. 3 behind Joe Flacco and Tyrod Taylor.

Tue Nov 29 201112:53Curtis Painter still the Colts' QB
Curtis Painter will remain the Colts' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
The 0-11 Colts have shown no inclination that they plan on turning to Dan Orlovsky at any point. Although Painter has nine turnovers and one touchdown over the last five games, the Colts continue to back him. "I don't think there's any question about [Painter as the starter]," said coach Jim Caldwell.

Sun Nov 27 201117:52Curtis Painter inaccurate once again
Curtis Painter completed 15-of-29 passes for 226 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's loss to the Panthers.
It's another brutally inaccurate day for Painter as the Colts fall to 0-11. He constantly missed receivers high and racked up most of his yardage on a final desperation drive. The Colts need to turn to Dan Orlovsky, but have shown no signs that they will make the move.

Wed Nov 23 201112:28Colts will stick with Painter as starting QB
Curtis Painter will start Sunday's game against the Panthers.
The Colts contemplated a quarterback change during their bye week, but have chosen to stick with Painter. It's really an indictment of backup Dan Orlovsky more than a vote of confidence for Painter. In seven starts this year, Painter has posted a 67.7 passer rating and has won zero games. He hasn't thrown a touchdown pass since Week 6.

Tue Nov 15 201109:41Curtis Painter no lock to start Week 12
Coach Jim Caldwell declined to commit to Curtis Painter as his Week 12 starter.
The 0-10 Colts are on a bye this week. Painter has been absolutely brutal over the last four games, tossing six interceptions against zero touchdowns and averaging 127.2 passing yards per game. It's so bad that Caldwell is actually considering turning to Dan Orlovsky.

Sun Nov 13 201116:02Painter benched, remains starter for now
Curtis Painter was bench in favor of Dan Orlovsky during the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Coach Jim Caldwell said after the game that Painter remains the team's starter. Orlovsky came in and immediately committed a turnover on a sack fumble recovered by Tyson Alualu. It's possible that Painter eventually plays himself out of the starting job this season, and the decision to go with Orlovsky on Sunday now has the potential to create a competition. Painter is averaging just 193.5 yards per start and completing 53.3 percent of his passes.

Mon Nov 7 201108:46Curtis Painter will remain Colts' starting QB
Following Sunday's loss to the Falcons, Colts coach Jim Caldwell confirmed that he will stick with Curtis Painter as his starting quarterback.
Painter was yanked with 10:15 left in the fourth quarter yesterday after a humiliating performance. Dan Orlovsky came on and completed 4-of-6 passes for 20 yards. On the season, Painter has compiled an 0-6 record as the starter and is completing just 53.3 percent of his passes. He's also averaging just 193.5 yards per start. The Colts may use the Week 11 bye to reevaluate their stance on Painter.

Sun Nov 6 201118:54Painter fails to reach 100 yards in defeat
Curtis Painter completed 13-of-27 passes for just 98 yards and an interception against the Falcons in Week 9.
He averaged an embarrassing 3.6 yards per attempt. Painter has clearly regressed the past three weeks, failing to throw a touchdown while adding four interceptions over that span. His passer rating has dropped from 100 to under 70 starting with the 62-7 whipping against the Saints. If Painter doesn't pick it up next week against the Jaguars, the Colts may turn to Dan Orlovsky during the Week 11 bye.

Mon Oct 31 201110:24Painter runs were a fluke?
Curtis Painter admitted his 79 rushing yards Sunday were a result of the Titans' sitting on a 20-0 halftime lead.
The Titans turned and ran with the Colts' wideouts in the second half, allowing Painter to scramble for chunks of yards whenever he wanted. It's not a trend we're expecting to continue. In Painter's previous five games, he had a total of seven rushes for 24 yards.

Mon Oct 24 201100:31Painter passes for just 67 yards in Week 7
Curtis Painter completed 9-of-17 passes for just 67 yards with no touchdowns, an interception, and a fumble in the Colts' 62-7 record-breaking loss in Week 7.
Ouch. His 38.1 quarterback rating is the worst mark for a Colts passer since Jim Harbaugh stunk up the joint in August of 1997. The 55-point loss is the eighth worst in NFL history, setting a franchise record for points allowed that had stood since 1956. Painter gave way to Dan Orlovsky early in the fourth after throwing a pick-six, and while unlikely it's possible a quarterback 'controversy' started tonight. The outing is particularly disappointing considering the small steps forward he had taken in the past two weeks.
