Mon Jul 28 201408:22RB-needy Colts waive Rainey anyway
Colts waived RB/KR Chris Rainey.
It's not a good sign for Rainey that he's been dumped by a RB-needy team less than a week into camp. The undersized sparkplug appeared in two games for the Colts last season, only getting touches in the return game.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Chris Rainey will be the team's kick returner in Week 13.

Wed Nov 20 201308:36Chris Rainey gets another chance, with Colts
Colts signed RB/KR Chris Rainey.
A 5'8/180 scatback with track star speed, Rainey appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers last season -- primarily as a kick returner. But after a getting popped on a battery charge, he was immediately released. Rainey had a history of off-field issues going back to his days at Florida. Current Colts kick returner David Reed is averaging a pedestrian 23.8 yards per return, 12th-best in the league. Rainey could also take some pressure off No. 1 receiver T.Y. Hilton as a punt returner.

Mon Sep 23 201315:00Chiefs work out Chris Rainey
The Chiefs worked out free agent RB/KR Chris Rainey on Monday.
Rainey reportedly ran a forty time in the 4.3s. Unfortunately, he's a complete turd off the field and not very effective on it. Rainey has on several occasions been arrested going back to his days at Florida.

Fri Feb 1 201317:18Chris Rainey pleads no contest
Free agent RB Chris Rainey has pleaded no contest to a charge of disorderly conduct and paid nearly $500 in fines resulting from last month's arrest.
The arrest led to Rainey's quick release from the Steelers. He wasn't claimed off waivers, suggesting it's a career-threatening incident for the 2012 fifth-round pick. Rainey was arrested on January 10 after an argument with a woman over a cellphone. He wound up allegedly slapping her in the face with an open hand.

Thu Jan 10 201315:51Chris Rainey had previous incidents
Chris Rainey was cited for defiant trespass when he entered the Meadows Racetrack and Casino outside Washington, Pennsylvania in December.
Rainey was apparently a degenerate gambler, as he had signed himself onto a self-exclusion list allowing himself to be banned from that facility and others. Rainey had also been arrested and accused of a felony stalking charge in Florida in 2010 after threatening a woman and texting "Time to die." GM Kevin Colbert termed Rainey's Thursday arrest "extremely disappointing," confirming that the tailback's "conduct" was the reason for his release.

Sun Dec 16 201221:11Chris Rainey rushes three times
Chris Rainey rushed three times for 15 yards in Pittsburgh's Week 15 loss to the Cowboys.
He was held without a catch on two targets in the passing game. Although Isaac Redman appeared to tweak his ankle in the third quarter, Rainey will remain well off the flex radar for the fantasy finals even if Redman can't give it a go against the Bengals.

Sun Dec 2 201220:50Chris Rainey doesn't touch ball in loss
Chris Rainey didn't touch the ball on offense in Pittsburgh's Week 13 win over the Ravens.
This, despite the fact that No. 3 back Rashard Mendenhall was a healthy scratch. Rainey is well off the redraft-league radar for the fantasy playoffs.

Sun Nov 25 201217:40Chris Rainey gets a goal-line opp
Chris Rainey rushed five times for 17 yards with a touchdown and added four catches for 15 yards in the Steelers' Week 12 loss to the Browns.
Rashard Mendenhall, Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman all lost first-quarter fumbles. Coach Mike Tomlin was so furious that he briefly rode the 5'8/180 Rainey as a feature back, even using him on a first-and-goal carry from the 1-yard line. Rainey somehow converted after getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage and then bouncing outside. Don't chase this fluky score.

Mon Nov 12 201209:05Chris Rainey won't be 100 percent for weeks
Steelers RB/KR Chris Rainey admitted his partially broken rib will take several weeks to heal.
Rainey will play through pain Monday night while wearing a protective wrap around his rib cage. The Steelers have suggested that he'll be taken off returns, instead leaving the job to Emmanuel Sanders. That will leave Rainey with a small package of plays behind Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer.

Chris Rainey (ribs) practiced fully on Saturday and is listed as probable on the Week 10 injury report.
Rainey practiced in full this week and is expected to be active for Monday night's game against the Chiefs. His role on special teams figures to be limited at less than 100 percent. Emmanuel Sanders will handle both kickoff and punt returns.

Steelers RB Chris Rainey (ribs) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.

Tue Nov 6 201212:22Chris Rainey has a chance to play Week 10
Steelers RB Chris Rainey (ribs) has not been ruled out of Monday's game against the Chiefs.
Per coach Mike Tomlin, Rainey is very uncomfortable. It sounds like some kind of bruising or cartilage damage. The extra day to prepare certainly gives Rainey a better shot at being active Week 10, but Emmnauel Sanders is expected to handle both kickoff and punt returns.

Sun Nov 4 201218:59Chris Rainey 'questionable' with rib injury
Steelers RB Chris Rainey was forced from Sunday's game with a rib injury, and is questionable to return.
Rainey appeared to be in a world of pain as he remained down for several minutes, and is almost certainly done for the afternoon. Rainey fumbled one of his three touches before going down, but was making a major impact on kick returns, rolling up 173 yards on five kickoffs.

Sun Oct 21 201223:54Chris Rainey gets 5 touches in Week 7
Steelers rookie RB Chris Rainey rushed four times for 17 yards and a touchdown and caught an eight-yard pass in Sunday night's Week 7 win over Cincinnati.
Largely a gadget and situational player in the Steelers' offense, Rainey showed his explosiveness on a traditional carry up the gut in the fourth quarter. Rainey got a nice kick-out block from motioning TE Heath Miller and blasted up the middle of Cincinnati's defense for an 11-yard touchdown. Rainey is a nice weapon for Steelers playcaller Todd Haley, but he carries little to no fantasy value in standard, re-draft leagues.

Fri Oct 5 201212:51Defenses keying on RB Rainey so far
The Steelers believe rookie RB Chris Rainey hasn't been effective so far because defenses know he's getting the ball on the rare snaps that he plays.
It's similar to the Saints' running-play "tell" with Mark Ingram. "There's a little alert that goes up," OC Todd Haley explained. "The key with him is that we have to get him into the flow of the offense at some point when everybody is comfortable. When he's making regular carries, maybe he won't be noticed as much." Rainey is averaging just 2.5 yards per carry and 6.8 per reception through three games.

Mon Sep 10 201201:14Rainey only touches the ball three times
Chris Rainey rushed twice for five yards in Sunday's loss to the Broncos, and lost a yard on his only reception.
All three of Rainey's touches came on first or second down. Rainey has the skills to be a game-breaker, but won't be in for a big early-season role on offense. His fantasy value is limited to leagues with return yards.
