The Bills have cut Simms, Vic Carucci Buffalo News reports.
In the wake of the move, it looks like the Bills will stick with a backup QB combo of EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel behind recently-named starter Tyrod Taylor.

Simms played the entire preseason finale against the Lions, completing 22 of 38 passes for 228 yards. He didn't have a TD pass or an interception, and finished with a 74.8 rating.
Simms looked good moving the ball but also couldn't hold on to it himself, fumbling three times and stifling drives in the process. He was also sacked three times. There's some thought the Bills will dump Matt Cassel to save cap space after Tyrod Taylor beat him out for the top job, and if that happened Simms would likely become the No. 3 quarterback behind Taylor and EJ Manuel.

Simms, claimed off waivers by the Bills on Friday, is not expected to be part of the team's three-man race for the starting quarterback role, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said coach Rex Ryan, "(The competition) is what it is right now. Three guys are going to be working at it, they're splitting the reps. Don't kid yourself, Matt will get opportunities. Will he get as many as the top three guys, probably not. One thing about Matt, I know he'll take advantage of the opportunities he gets and I'm not saying he can't make this team."
Simms would need some major breaks to put himself in position for playing time this season, though stranger things have happened. Right now he's probably just trying to impress enough that the Bills give him a spot on the team.
Fri May 29 201517:17Simms claimed off waivers by Bills on Friday
Simms was claimed off waivers by the Bills on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Simms was released by the Jets on Thursday and will join the Bills as the fourth quarterback on the depth chart. He has little chance of making an impact this season and holds extremely minimal fantasy value across all formats. In order to accommodate the move, the Bills parted ways with Jeff Tuel.
Thu May 28 201515:57Simms released by Jets on Thursday
Simms was released by the Jets on Thursday.
Simms, who spent time on the practice squad last season, had little chance of making an impact in 2015. He'll look to catch on elsewhere as the Jets move forth with Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty and Jake Heaps as the four quarterbacks on the roster.
Wed Dec 31 201411:03Simms has renegotiated contract with Jets and as result
Simms has renegotiated his contract with the Jets and as a result, he will not become an exclusive-rights free agent this offseason, the Jets' official site reports.
Per the Star Ledger, Simms will have a chance to compete for a depth QB role with the Jets next season, though at this stage it's unclear who else will be in that mix, with Michael Vick unlikely to return to the team and a new signal-caller or two likely to be signed or drafted in the coming months.

Simms entered Sunday's game in the fourth quarter in place of the injured Michael Vick (head) and completed 3 of 8 passes for 39 yards against the Chiefs.
Simms was promoted from the practice squad this week to be the backup Sunday, with Geno Smith inactive due to a shoulder injury. Vick was able to return to the game, which pushed Simms back to the bench, and with talk that Geno Smith could start in Week 10 against the Steelers, Simms may be heading back to the practice squad.
Sat Nov 1 201413:48Simms elevated to Jets' active roster Saturday
Simms was elevated to the Jets' active roster Saturday.
Given the turmoil surrounding the team's QB situation, it makes sense that Simms was added to the active roster from the practice squad. That said, things would have to be pretty dire for Simms to see action.
Sun Aug 31 201419:16Simms added to Jets' practice squad
Simms has been added to the Jets' practice squad, the Star-Ledger reports.
The Jets are rolling with just two quarterbacks to start the season, but should Geno Smith or Michael Vick suffer an injury, Simms is in line to re-enter the backup mix.
Sat Aug 30 201417:55Simms released by Jets
Simms has been released by the Jets, NJ.com reports.
Simms was never expected to be anything more than the third quarterback, and the Jets ultimately opted to keep just two signal-callers, Geno Smith and Mike Vick. Should Smith or Vick suffer an injury, Simms will likely get the first call. He's also a candidate for the practice squad.
Tue Jan 14 201410:02Jets bring back backup QB Matt Simms
Jets re-signed QB Matt Simms.
Simms was scheduled to become an exclusive rights free agent in March, which meant he was staying with the Jets no matter what. Now it's official as he'll play out 2014 on a one-year, $495,000 deal. Once Mark Sanchez is released, Simms will officially be penciled in as the No. 2 quarterback behind Geno Smith. The Jets are expected to add at least one more quarterback to their roster.

Mon Nov 25 201317:04Matt Simms could get 1st-team reps?
Jets coach Rex Ryan "dodged the question" Monday when asked if Matt Simms will get any first-team practice reps this week.
Judging from Rex's presser, it seems safe to say Geno Smith will be on an exceedingly short leash in Sunday's game against Miami. The Dolphins aren't a very good team, but their defense will be a recommended Week 12 fantasy play.

Sun Nov 17 201316:32Matt Simms replaces Geno in 4th quarter
Replacing a struggling Geno Smith in the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 11 loss to Buffalo, Matt Simms completed 4-of-6 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.
His score went to TE Jeff Cumberland from 13 yards out. The Jets figure to turn back to Geno ahead of a Week 12 clash with the Ravens, but there are no guarantees. Wait to see what Rex Ryan says on Sunday evening and during his Monday press conference, after reviewing Smith's Week 11 game tape.

Fri Sep 20 201309:36Rex downplays report that Simms could play
Coach Rex Ryan shot down a report from earlier in the week that said backup QB Matt Simms "has some real support to play" within the Jets' organization.
"Well, I think there are a lot of guys that like Simms, I don't think there's any doubt, but to say as our starting quarterback? I don't see that," Ryan said. "Again, I'm obviously saying that that couldn't happen, but we see Geno as our starting quarterback now, and that's how we see it. We like Matt -- or Phil, if you want." The Jets are going to ride or die with Geno Smith.

Mon Sep 16 201317:49Report: Some of Jets org. wants Simms at QB
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, backup QB Matt Simms "has some real support to play" within the Jets' organization.
"Should Geno (Smith) struggle, worth watching," Schefter reported. Simms is a 24-year-old former undrafted free agent out of Tennessee. He beat out Greg McElroy for the Jets' backup job in August, finishing the preseason with a 74.6 completion rate and 8.1 yards-per-attempt average without a turnover on 59 throws, albeit against deep backups. Smith has been the weak link on a Jets team that has otherwise been better than people expected. If Smith keeps giving the ball to the other team, the Jets' offensive staff may have to seriously contemplate a switch. Geno has five turnovers through two games.

Fri Aug 30 201322:54Rex Ryan high on Matt Simms
Coach Rex Ryan talked up QB Matt Simms as one of the Jets' most improved players in 2013 training camp.
Simms will enter the season backing up Geno Smith, at least until Mark Sanchez (shoulder) returns. "This young man has really improved now ... oh, my goodness," said Rex of Simms. "Clearly, he has arm talent to play in the league. Quite honestly, I don't think I've ever seen anybody make the improvements he's made." Simms, 24, finished the preseason 44-of-59 (74.6 percent) for 478 yards (8.1 YPA), one touchdown, and zero turnovers. Simms did take a whopping seven sacks in the preseason finale.

Mon May 7 201209:06Jets sign UDFA Matt Simms
Jets agreed to terms with Tennessee QB Matt Simms.
The son of Phil and brother of Chris, Matt attempted just 267 career passes for the Volunteers. The Jets' fifth quarterback behind Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, Greg McElroy and G.J. Kinne, Simms' has an almost zero percent chance of cracking New York's 53.
