Forbath's release has been confirmed by Washington.

Per the report, the team was looking for a kicker with a stronger leg on kickoffs, with Dustin Hopkins having been signed by Washington to replace Forbath.

Forbath is expected to be released by the Redskins, ESPN reports.

Forbath missed a 46-yard field goal attempt that followed a 10-play drive Sunday, but made another kick from 45 yards during the Redskins' Week 1 loss. Nonetheless, with his time in Washington now seemingly expired, Forbath will hit the free agent market in search of a new landing spot.

Forbath was 1-for-2 on field goals, making a 45-yard attempt and missing from a distance of 46 yards. He also converted his sole extra point attempt.

Forbath's wide-right miss in the first quarter squandered a 10-play, 50-yard drive by the Redskins and an opportunity to give them an early 6-0 lead. He held off rookie Ty Long in the preseason to open his fourth season as the Redskins placekicker, and will be counted on for his trademark accuracy on a team that often struggles to finish drives with trips into the end zone. Forbath posted a solid 88.9 field goal percentage in 2014 and appears to have firm hold on the job this season.

Forbath has won the place kicker job as the team cut rookie Ty Long, the Washington Post reports.

Forbath has performed well in the preseason going 3-for-3 with a long of 52. His kickoff distance is the weakest part of his game but he has demonstrated accuracy during the preseason on field goals.

His field goals made total has increased with each year in the league, resulting in a career-best 103 points in 2014. The 27-year-old will be the favorite to win the job once again in 2015, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Washington bring in a little competition during camp.

Forbath was 2-for-2 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points in Saturday's 27-24 victory over the Eagles.

Forbath drilled the game-winner, a 26-yard field goal with five seconds remaining. Despite the heroics, he is still not a strong fantasy option for Week 17's matchup with the Cowboys given Washington's struggles to consistently move the ball this season.

Forbath did not attempt a field goal in Sunday's 24-0 loss to the Rams.

Kicking behind the Washington offense has capped Forbath's fantasy upside, and through 13 games, he has notched a total 82 points, a mark that has been topped by 23 NFL kickers so far this season.
