Sun Oct 11 201511:47Clausen (back) active for Sunday's game against Chiefs
Clausen (back) is active for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
Clausen was a late addition to the Bears' injury report after the back issue only limited him during Thursday's practice this week, but it appears he's feeling strong enough to serve in a backup capacity behind Jay Cutler. The Bears' decision to keep third-string quarterback David Fales inactive seems to indicate the team is comfortable with where Clausen is at on the health front.
Sun Oct 4 201511:39Clausen will move back to backup role
With Jay Cutler (hamstring) active for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Clausen will move back to a backup role, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Cutler's hamstring injury was initially expected to sideline him for multiple games, but he only ended up missing last week's 26-0 loss against the Seahawks. Clausen earned the starting nod for that game and looked completely inept guiding the offense, finishing 9-for-17 with 63 passing yards on the afternoon. Despite that horrid performance, Clausen still ranks above David Fales on the Bears' quarterback depth chart, but he's not in line to see the field again unless Cutler suffers another injury setback.

Clausen completed just 9-of-17 passes for 63 yards in Sunday's 26-0 loss at Seattle. He did not throw a touchdown nor turn the ball over.
Clausen couldn't have had a more difficult situation to deal with, facing the Seahawks on the road, and with the return of Kam Chancellor. He was also missing his best receiver in Alshon Jeffery. In any event, he's likely to make at least one more start next week for an injured Jay Cutler, and that looks to be a better matchup at home against the Raiders.

Clausen will start during Jay Cutler's absence due to a hamstring injury, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Cutler will sit out at least two games with the ailment, affording Clausen the opportunity to start for just the second time since the 2010 season. In Cutler's place Sunday against the Cardinals, Clausen was 14-of-23 passing for 121 yards with an interception, but he'll likely have difficulty one-upping those modest results in Week 3 against a motivated Seahawks defense in the one of the loudest venues in sport, CenturyLink Field.

Clausen came on for the injured Jay Cutler (hamstring) in the second quarter Sunday against the Cardinals, and he completed 14 of 23 passes for 121 yards and an interception.
Cutler was playing very well before throwing a pick six, which happened to be the play when he suffered the injury. Clausen struggled for much of the day, taking two sacks and fumbling, though the Bears recovered it. Bears head coach John Fox would not say after the game if Cutler is expected to miss any time, but if he does, Clausen would start in Week 3 against the Seahawks.
Sun Sep 13 201511:56Clausen (concussion) listed as active Sunday versus Packers
Clausen (concussion) is listed as active Sunday versus the Packers, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
With the concussion protocol behind him, Clausen will assume his gig as the primary backup to Jay Cutler.

Clausen (concussion) is considered probable for Sunday's season opener against the Packers, ESPN.com reports.
Clausen recently returned as a full participant in practice following a concussion suffered during the preseason. As a result, he's expected to be available to back-up starting quarterback Jay Cutler come Sunday.
Thu Sep 10 201510:46Clausen (concussion) full participant in Wednesday's practice
Clausen (concussion) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Clausen's participation in practice suggests he's passed all of the league-mandated concussion testing and should be ready to back up Jay Cutler for the Week 1 opener against Green Bay.
Mon Aug 31 201514:15Clausen sustained concussion in Saturday's preseason outing
Clausen sustained a concussion in Saturday's preseason outing, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago reports.
After Clausen's removal from the game due to a head injury, initial tests ruled out a concussion. However, as is often the case with such ailments, his symptoms were delayed, according to head coach John Fox. Clausen will now enter the league's concussion protocol, which should afford David Fales and potentially Shane Carden plenty of snaps in Thursday's final exhibition.

Clausen left Saturday's preseason game in the fourth quarter with a head injury but initial tests did not show he suffered a concussion, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Clausen was 5-of-8 for 39 yards passing before departing. He'll likely undergo more concussion tests Sunday.

Clausen completed 17-of-27 passes for 157 yards in Thursday's preseason opener against the Dolphins.
Clausen, who played the rest of the game after Jay Cutler handled the first two drives, took one sack and didn't throw any touchdowns or interceptions. Bears head coach John Fox said during the offseason that there will be an open competition for the starting quarterback job, but all signs point to Jay Cutler sticking in the role, even if his leash will be shorter than in past years. Clausen could make that leash even shorter if he significantly outplays Cutler this preseason, but history suggests that is unlikely to happen.
Fri Mar 6 201512:46The Bears re-signed Clausen on Friday
The Bears re-signed Clausen on Friday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
While it's still unclear whether Jay Cutler will be back with the Bears, Clausen will presumably be limited to backup duties, either way. The former second-round pick hasn't inspired confidence in his limited NFL opportunities.

Clausen suffered a concussion Sunday against the Lions and won't play in the Bears' season finale this weekend against the Vikings, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
With Clausen (who the Bears' official site indicates was diagnosed with a concussion Sunday night after experiencing delayed symptoms) unavailable this week, Rapoport relays that the Bears plan to return to previous starter Jay Cutler in Week 17, with rookie David Fales slated to serve as his backup.

Clausen completed 23-of-39 passes for 181 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's loss to the Lions, adding nine rushing yards on three carries.
Clausen, in his first start since head coach Marc Trestman benched Jay Cutler, connected with six different receivers, throwing his touchdowns to wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and running back Matt Forte. It wasn't enough to lead the Bears to victory, but it was probably enough to get him a start in Week 17 against the Vikings, though it'll be a tough matchup against a defense allowing the sixth-fewest passing yards per game this season.
Wed Dec 17 201418:45Jimmy Clausen: Named Week 16 Starter
Clausen will start for the Bears in favor of Jay Cutler for their Week 16 matchup against the Lions, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Clausen has attempted just nine passes since the 2010 season, when he appeared in 13 games for Carolina, and threw three touchdowns compared to nine interceptions. He doesn't have much of an NFL track record that suggests he'll be successful in the league, but coach Marc Trestman has confidence in him over the incumbent Jay Cutler, who leads the league with 18 interceptions this season. Clausen will face a tough matchup in his first start of 2014, as the opposing Detroit Lions rank second in the league in total defense.

Clausen completed 1-of-3 passes for 11 yards in Sunday's 55-14 loss to the Packers.
Clausen's appearances this season certainly haven't been in ideal scenarios for the Bears, as all three have come in the final quarter of blowout losses. Coach Marc Trestman seems of no mind to permanently demote the embattled Jay Cutler to the bench as it is, but Clausen doesn't have the strong claim to the starting job that Josh McCown had last season in any event.

Clausen made his second appearance of the season Sunday against the Patriots, completing one of his five pass attempts for 22 yards.
With the Bears trailing 51-23 with just over two minutes remaining, coach Marc Trestman turned the offense over to Clausen with the outcome already decided. Starter Jay Cutler hasn't shown the growth this season that the Bears had hoped for after signing him to a megadeal in the offseason, but unless he falls victim to injury, Clausen won't see any extended action.

Clausen made his season debut Sunday against the Packers, completing his lone pass in relief of Jay Cutler.
The Bears were simply winding the clock with just minutes remaining in the team's 21-point loss. It was Clausen's first appearance in an NFL game since his forgettable rookie season with the Panthers in 2010.
Tue Aug 26 201414:30Clausen will open season as Bears' 2nd quarterback
Clausen will open the season as the Bears' No. 2 quarterback, Bob LeGere of the Daily Herald reports.
Coach Marc Trestman acknowledged that Clausen, 26, beat out the 30-year-old Palmer primarily based on his greater combination of youth, upside and NFL experience. Though Clausen hasn't taken a snap in the league since his ill-fated rookie season with the Panthers in 2010, he impressed in the first three preseason games in completing 64.9 percent of his throws while collecting two touchdowns against one interception. He'll sit out the Bears' final preseason contest as the team takes a longer look at developmental project David Fales, who could earn a roster spot as the team's No. 3 quarterback.

Clausen was mighty impressive in Friday's preseason opener against the Eagles, completing 7-of-13 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns.
While the performance comes with the caveat that he was matching up against the Eagles' third- and fourth-stringers, Clausen did manage to outperform Jordan Palmer, his chief competition for backup duties behind Jay Cutler. Clausen's highlight of the night came on a beautifully thrown deep ball to Chris Williams for a 73-yard touchdown, all while the quarterback was under heavy pressure. The final three preseason games should offer opportunities for both quarterbacks to pick up more snaps and offer more clarity on the job battle, but for now, Clausen looks to have vaulted himself into an early lead.
