Browns waived WR Carlton Mitchell, OL Jake Anderson, OL Matt Cleveland, DB Emmanuel Davis, LB JoJo Dickson, P Spencer Lanning, WR Bert Reed, WR Jermaine Saffold, and WR Owen Spencer.
Cleveland is down to 80 players, meaning they need to cut five more before tomorrow's deadline. Mitchell has a nice mix of size/speed, but hasn't emerged after being drafting in the sixth round back in 2010. His fate was sealed when the team added Josh Gordon in July.

Browns WR Carlton Mitchell has "barely practiced" this summer because of a leg muscle injury.
The injury held Mitchell out of Cleveland's second preseason game after he caught just one pass for 33 yards in the opener. Already on the roster bubble, Mitchell's injury has likely sealed his Browns fate.

Thu Jul 12 201216:02Browns WR Mitchell a roster longshot
Browns WR Carlton Mitchell is a roster longshot following the addition of supplemental pick Josh Gordon.
The top five spots on the depth chart figure to be taken by Greg Little, Mohamed Massaquoi, Josh Cribbs, Gordon and fourth-rounder Travis Benjamin. If the Browns keep six receivers, slot candidates Jordan Norwood and Josh Cooper will be the favorites. It's safe to cut bait on Mitchell even in deep Dynasty leagues.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi says WR Carlton Mitchell "looked great" during OTAs.
Grossi listed Mitchell as a player who "might surprise" at this year's training camp. After back-to-back underwhelming seasons, the 2010 seventh-round pick is squarely on the roster bubble. He figures to compete with Josh Cooper and Jordan Norwood for one or two roster spots.

Sun Apr 22 201209:24Make-or-break time for Carlton Mitchell
ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi feels that WR Carlton Mitchell's roster spot is in jeopardy this offseason.
Impressed by his size (6'3/215) and speed (4.41-4.49 forty-yard dash), the Browns drafted Mitchell in the sixth round back in 2010. Two years later, he has yet to emerge. The Browns are sure to add talent to the wide receiver position via this weekend's draft, so Mitchell has his work cut out in training camp.

Sat Aug 13 201122:57Carlton Mitchell out 'a few weeks'
Browns WR Carlton Mitchell will be out a "few weeks" after undergoing finger surgery on Friday.
Previously, the Browns had only ruled Mitchell out for their preseason opener against the Packers this evening. A favorite of the Browns' new coaching staff, Mitchell's roster spot shouldn't be in any danger, but he's not going to open up the season with a role in the receiving corps.

Sun Jul 10 201117:21Browns front office high on WR Mitchell
The Browns front office reportedly likes WR Carlton Mitchell "a lot."

Mon Apr 18 201111:17Browns brass is high on Mitchell?
Browns GM Tom Heckert and coach Pat Shurmur have indicated that they are high on WR Carlton Mitchell.
Mitchell was a sixth-round pick last season and was active just five times even though the Browns' starting receivers were anemic. While Mitchell certainly has good size at 6'4/212, he's a longshot for a real impact. The Browns are expected to add talent to the receiver position early in the draft.

Sat Mar 26 201120:36Carlton Mitchell in for increased role
WR Carlton Mitchell could be in for an increased role in 2011.
A rookie sixth-round draft choice, Mitchell was active just five times in 2010, notching exactly zero catches. All of Cleveland's wideouts will likely benefit from the installation of Pat Shurmur's West Coast offense, which should feature many quick, short throws. However, the odds that Mitchell becomes a PPR contributor are low.

Thu Oct 21 201011:03Mitchell could get a shot Sunday
Browns coach Eric Mangini said that rookie WR Carlton Mitchell has been practicing well lately and could get a chance Sunday if Josh Cribbs (concussion) and Mohamed Massaquoi (concussion) sit out.
Mitchell is a sixth-round project with loads of potential. He has yet to be active for a game, with drops often a major problem for him. He's not going to make an impact anytime soon but is worth tracking, as he has arguably the most physical ability of any Browns receiver.

Fri Sep 3 201022:29Mitchell dropped way too many balls
Browns rookie WR Carlton Mitchell reportedly "dropped way too many passes" in camp to be counted on for an early-season role.
We do expect the gifted sixth-round pick to make the club, but Mitchell will likely be a game-day scratch if he does. He offers little on special teams.

Wed Jul 7 201012:36Browns reach deal with rookie Mitchell
Browns agreed to terms with sixth-round WR Carlton Mitchell on a four-year contract.
An intriguing blend of size and speed at 6'3/215 with a 4.41-4.49 forty-yard dash, Mitchell slipped to the sixth round due to concerns about his hands and route running. He landed with the right team for a potential early impact, but he'll need to show improved fundamentals to climb higher than fifth on the depth chart by Week 1.

Sat Apr 24 201014:35Browns draft South Florida WR Mitchell
Browns selected South Florida WR Carlton Mitchell with the No. 177 overall pick in the 2010 draft.
Projected by many to go in the second or third round, Mitchell is a raw receiver with less than impressive position drills at the Combine. Though he landed in an ideal spot with the receiver-needy Browns, he'll need to develop his route running and fundamentals before making an impact at the next level. Ultimately, he's a deep threat with size and plenty of potential.
