Tue Nov 5 201308:07McCarthy hints that Seneca will start Week 10
Coach Mike McCarthy suggested a lack of practice time contributed to Seneca Wallace's poor relief performance Monday night.
Despite stacked boxes designed to stop Eddie Lacy, Wallace went 11-of-19 for 114 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. In fairness, he didn't even spend training camp with the Packers and has barely gotten any reps since signing just before Week 1. "Seneca, he needs to perform better and he'll definitely do that with a week of practice," said McCarthy. We wouldn't brush Wallace off as a QB2 candidate if he does start in Week 10. The Packers get to face the Eagles at home and this scheme once made Matt Flynn look like Dan Marino.

Tue Nov 5 201300:10Wallace struggles badly in place of Rodgers
Coming on in place of an injured Aaron Rodgers (left non-throwing shoulder) in the first quarter, Seneca Wallace completed 11-of-19 passes for 114 yards and one interception in the Week 9 loss to the Bears.
Wallace hadn't taken a regular-season snap since appearing in six games with the Browns in 2011 before he was summoned to replace Rodgers on Green Bay's second possession. He handed the ball off to James Starks for a 32-yard touchdown on his first snap. It went downhill from there. Wallace short-hopped a couple of his receivers and took four sacks, two of which came on the final drive that killed any hope of a potential comeback. It's unknown how long Rodgers will be out, but the Packers are in serious trouble if Wallace has to start another game. Green Bay will take on the Eagles in six days.

Mon Sep 2 201310:06Packers sign Wallace to be Rodgers' backup
Packers signed QB Seneca Wallace.
Wallace was just released by the 49ers -- the Packers' Week 1 opponent -- on Thursday. He immediately slides in as Aaron Rodgers' direct backup as Green Bay has released both Vince Young and B.J. Coleman in the last few days. Wallace, 33, hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2011 with the Browns. Current Packers GM Ted Thompson drafted Wallace to the Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2003 draft.

Fri Aug 30 201316:16Agent: Seneca Wallace not retiring
The player rep for free agent QB Seneca Wallace now insists his client is not retiring.
Coach Jim Harbaugh had been informed otherwise, before the 49ers cut Wallace on Thursday. "My understanding is that Seneca will continue his football career but that there was a discussion about his situation particularly with the 49ers," said agent Don Yee. Wallace turned 33 earlier this month.

Fri Aug 30 201308:34Seneca Wallace hangs up cleats after 10 years
Seneca Wallace is retiring from football.
It was apparently Wallace's call not to suit up in Thursday's preseason finale. "He felt strongly about it," coach Jim Harbaugh said. "I don't talk people out of that. I've never seen it done on game day, but I wish him well." A 2003 fourth-rounder, Wallace hangs it up with a career 81.3 QB rating, 59.2 completion percentage and 31:18 TD:INT ratio through 764 passes. Wallace hasn't played since 2011.

Thu Aug 29 201321:35Niners cutting veteran backup Seneca Wallace
49ers will release QB Seneca Wallace.
The Niners did Wallace a solid by not playing him in the preseason finale and risking injury. So he'll have a chance to catch on elsewhere, most likely after Week 1. San Francisco already waived Scott Tolzien and will enter the season with Colt McCoy and rookie B.J. Daniels behind starter Colin Kaepernick.

Thu Aug 22 201314:12Seneca Wallace's career lives on, signs w/ SF
49ers signed QB Seneca Wallace, formerly of the Saints.
Wallace, 33, was cut by the Saints Monday and immediately drew interest from the quarterback-needy Niners. Colt McCoy and Scott Tolzien have struggled throughout the preseason, combining for three interceptions and zero touchdowns. Rookie B.J. Daniels is the other signal caller on the roster, but he's nowhere close to being ready to take meaningful snaps. Wallace is no lock to make the roster.

Mon Aug 19 201312:14Saints release veteran QB Seneca Wallace
Saints released QB Seneca Wallace.
The Saints are going with Luke McCown as Drew Brees' backup. Out of the league last season, Wallace was 3-of-6 for 32 yards and an interception this preseason. He also lost a fumble and took two sacks. The 33-year-old's career is on borrowed time.

Wed Jul 31 201309:38Seneca Wallace getting equal backup reps
Seneca Wallace and Luke McCown are sharing second-team reps equally at Saints camp.
It's McCown's second straight training camp with the Saints, so he's tentatively considered the slight favorite. Wallace was out of the NFL last season. Drew Brees has missed one game since joining New Orleans in 2006.

Mon Apr 15 201313:24Saints sign Seneca Wallace to back up Brees
Saints signed QB Seneca Wallace to a one-year contract.
Wallace, who turns 33 before the season, has completed 59.2 percent of his 764 career throws with a 31:18 TD-to-INT ratio and 6-15 record as a starter. A mobile quarterback with some experience at receiver, Wallace also averages 4.3 yards per career rushing attempt. Wallace will compete in training camp with Luke McCown to be Drew Brees' primary clipboard holder. Former Saints longtime backup Chase Daniel left for greener pastures in Kansas City.

Thu Apr 11 201315:42Update: Raiders not signing QB Seneca Wallace
Updating a previous item, the Raiders are not signing free agent QB Seneca Wallace.
Reports that Wallace had beat out Tyler Thigpen to serve as the No. 3 quarterback behind Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor proved to be premature. Beat writer Vic Tafur says the Raiders could sign 32-year-old Wallace "down the road," but not right now. He'll head back to the free-agent market.

Wed Apr 10 201315:45Raiders signing veteran QB Seneca Wallace
Raiders agreed to terms with QB Seneca Wallace.
Wallace beat out Tyler Thigpen to join Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor in the Raiders' QB corps. He's being signed for his experience and leadership more than his skills, which have eroded to the point that he was out of the league last season. Wallace will spend camp mentoring Flynn and Pryor, but shouldn't attempt a pass after the preseason. It's possible Wallace won't make the Week 1 roster, but the Raiders have been enamored with the idea of signing a veteran QB, so he most likely will.

Tue Apr 9 201314:46Seneca Wallace working out for Oakland
Free agent Seneca Wallace will work out for the Raiders on Wednesday.
Wallace was one of four free agent QBs to work out for the Seahawks on Monday, but didn't get a call back. The 2003 fourth-rounder spent 2012 out of the NFL, and would be little more than a veteran mentor to Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor in Oakland. The Raiders would be better off using the roster spot on a young player.

Wed Oct 3 201212:49Seneca Wallace gets workout with Saints
Free agent QB Seneca Wallace worked out for the Saints this week.
Drew Brees and Chase Daniel are healthy, so the Saints are likely just updating their scouting reports on free agents. Wallace has been out of the league since the Browns dumped him a week before Opening Day.
