Sat Sep 8 201220:45WR Roy Williams retires after nine seasons
Former Lions, Cowboys, and Bears wide receiver Roy Williams has retired.
Williams announced his decision on his Facebook page. The Texans had him in for a workout in late July but were just doing their due diligence. Williams cites his trade to Dallas as a turning point in his career, "Put up good numbers my first few years, went to a Pro Bowl then I got to Dallas and it stopped... The grass ain't always greener on the other side." Williams is content on hanging up the cleats and spending time with his sons, even though he didn't exactly go out on his own terms. He ends his career with 393 catches for 5,715 yards and 44 touchdowns.

Thu Jul 26 201215:27Texans just 'kicking tires' on Roy Williams
The Texans were reportedly just "kicking tires" on free agent Roy Williams during Thursday's workout.
It sounds like the Texans are simply putting in their due diligence on available veterans in case unproven receivers Lestar Jean and DeVier Posey aren't up to the task in August. No signing is imminent.

Wed Jul 25 201223:20Roy Williams to work out for the Texans
Free agent Roy Williams will work out for the Texans on Thursday.
The Texans must be feeling really desperate. Williams hasn't been an effective receiver since he played with Mike Martz in Detroit, and he's now on the wrong side of 30. We do expect Houston to add a veteran wideout before Week 1.

Thu Mar 8 201216:12Report: Bears haven't contacted WR Williams
The Bears have reportedly not contacted free agent Roy Williams since the end of the season.
Williams was told at season's end that the team wanted him back, but that was before the departures of coordinator Mike Martz and GM Jerry Angelo. Unless the Bears strike out at wide receiver in free agency and the draft, we suspect they won't seriously entertain the notion of bringing back Williams.

Mon Feb 13 201212:50Roy Williams plays most snaps of any Bears WR
Free agent Roy Williams led all Bears receivers with 600 snaps in 2011.
A number that speaks to how under-manned and misused the Bears' receiver corps was last season. With enabler Mike Martz now retired, Williams is extremely unlikely to be re-signed by Chicago. Considering the lack of explosion and stone hands he showed in 2011, it's possible no one will be interested in Williams' services.

Sun Jan 1 201218:26Roy Williams totals 60 yards, TD in Week 17
Roy Williams caught four passes for 60 yards and a touchdown on seven targets against the Vikings in Week 17.
Williams emerged as Josh McCown's favorite receiver in the final two games, but it may have been too little too late from the Bears' perspective. The drop-prone, inconsistent 30-year-old finished his first season in Chicago with a 37/507/2 line. Though Williams is a favorite of OC Mike Martz and WRs coach Darryl Drake, he's no lock to be back as an impending free agent.

Tue Dec 27 201112:02Roy Williams wants to be back with Bears
Impending unrestricted free agent Roy Williams said he wants to return to the Bears.
The Bears shouldn't want Williams back. Not even old friend Mike Martz could revive Williams' career as he's caught 33 passes for 447 yards and one touchdown in 14 games. Upgrading Jay Cutler's weapons is a must for the Bears this offseason. Williams' lack of athleticism is glaring and he's unwilling to go over the middle as a possession receiver.

Mon Dec 26 201100:27Roy Williams has best night of the year
Roy Williams caught a season-high six passes for 81 yards in Chicago's Week 16 loss to the Packers.
Don't be fooled by Williams' stat line. Chicago's stiff-bodied "No. 1 receiver" alligator armed two more potential catches, and tacked on essentially no yardage after the catch. As has been the case all season, the one-time acrobatic leaper displayed startlingly little athleticism. Williams will be a hindrance to the Bears' passing game if he's re-signed for 2012.

Sun Dec 18 201118:00Roy Williams held catch-less in Week 15
Bears WR Roy Williams did not catch a pass in Week 15.
He was targeted just once and should've been dropped several weeks back.

Sun Dec 11 201120:23Roy Williams has two-catch day in loss
Roy Williams caught two passes for 22 yards in Week 14.
An improvement on Week 13, where Williams was held without a catch against the Chiefs. Amazingly, Williams was actually able to make a catch in traffic today, but was otherwise his typically invisible self. Already valueless under Jay Cutler, Williams couldn't be less fantasy relevant with Caleb Hanie starting for the Bears.

Sun Nov 20 201119:51Roy Williams totals 62 yards in Week 11
Roy Williams caught five passes for 62 yards against the Chargers in Week 11.
Williams and Jay Cutler connected for first downs on three straight plays on a third-quarter scoring drive. His eight targets and five receptions are both season highs, so don't expect a repeat at Oakland in Week 12.

Sun Nov 13 201120:55Roy Williams held catch-less in Week 10
Roy Williams started in Week 10, but was held without a catch.
He was targeted just once, appearing to play in a rotational role. It didn't help Williams' chances of producing a big fantasy game, though, that the Bears threw just 20 passes all day -- one from running back Matt Forte -- after jumping out to a huge early lead. Williams remains mostly off the fantasy radar. At the very best, he's a WR5. The Bears face the Chargers next.

Tue Nov 8 201101:40Same old Roy Williams in Week 10 vs. PHI
Roy Williams caught three balls for 46 yards in the Bears' Week 10 win over the Eagles.
He almost missed touching the ball with his hands entirely when Jay Cutler threw a perfect deep ball to him, though he did have a defender near him to muddle his vision. Still, it's not a shocking development, but Mike Martz is committed to him no matter how much better the other wideouts look. He now has at least three catches and 46 yards in his last three games.

Tue Oct 18 201115:59Roy Williams locked in as Bears starter
CSN John "Moon" Mullin believes Roy Williams won't lose his starting job "for awhile now" after regaining it in Week 6.
Johnny Knox is a superior receiver, but the Bears are infatuated with Williams' size. Knox no longer has fantasy value as more than a WR5 roster stash. Williams looked as good as he has all season, but managed just three catches for 50 yards. He's not a weekly fantasy option.

Mon Oct 17 201100:33Roy Williams starts, posts 50 yards in win
Roy Williams started Sunday's Week 6 win over the Vikings, and finished with three grabs for 50 yards.
Maybe his groin injury has finally passed. He looked as good as he has all year, but that's not saying a whole lot. If he can hang onto the starting job it's possible that he can make the tiniest bit of noise, but we're not expecting much, if any fantasy-worthy production from him.

Tue Oct 11 201100:21Roy Williams still unproductive in Week 5
Roy Williams caught just one ball for 11 yards in the Bears' Week 5 loss to the Lions.
The free agent bust should be nowhere near fantasy rosters. After all, he can barely crack one of the weakest wide receiving corps in the NFL.

Mon Oct 3 201116:28Roy Williams says his legs are only 80%
Roy Williams claims he's only at "80-percent something" in terms of the health of his legs after an early-year groin injury.
"It's getting there. It's about 80-something percent," he said. "Stiffened up just a little bit [Sunday]. But it's getting better." Williams has been demoted out of the starting lineup for Johnny Knox, who leads all Bears wideouts in catches (12) and yards (237). Williams is safe to give up on in fantasy leagues.

Sun Oct 2 201116:50Williams catches just one ball in win
Roy Williams caught just one pass for 15 yards in Sunday's win over the Panthers.
Williams came off the bench in favor of Johnny Knox and managed just one target. He now has five catches in three games played this season. Avoid Williams in fantasy at all costs.

Wed Sep 28 201118:10Roy Williams not on the injury report
Roy Williams is not listed on the Bears' Week 4 injury report.
Williams complained of groin problems in Week 3, blaming them for another terrible game. The Bears must not agree, because he was allowed to practice fully on Wednesday and is fully expected to be available against the Panthers.

Wed Sep 28 201114:07Roy Williams blames bad Week 3 on groin
Roy Williams reiterated Wednesday that his catch-less Week 3 game was attributable to an unhealed, lingering groin injury.
He didn't catch one of his four targets against the Bears, also dropping a pass and allowing two throws in his direction to be intercepted. The Bears need to give up the ghost on Williams and move forward with Johnny Knox, who's routinely outplayed the washed-up veteran through three games this season.
